already. Around where I live, it is no longer unusual to see a row of houses along the highway with grass and weeds up to the vacant windows. In my folks’ church in Nashville, they have a lot of congregants from Spring Hill where the GM plant will be closed soon enough. In our small weekly paper, there is a constant list of foreclosures. My husband was talking to a friend the other day who works for the local power company. It’s his job to go take down the electric meter when a customer can no longer pay their bill. My husband asked if it were the poorer people or the elderly who most often couldn’t pay. The answer was: “Nope, it’s most often those who live in the biggest and newest houses.”

I just fired off a follow-up note to my Congressman, Aaron Schock, congratulating & thanking him for his no vote and asking him, if he happens to see Mark Kirk around campus, to remind him that I and my family will actively oppose him in any of his future electoral ambitions in Illinois. Since Kirk won’t accept out of district emails, perhaps a comment via his fellow Congressman will get through….

“First SCHIP, and now this?! What you did today, voting for that miserable pointless economy-killing boondoggle of a cap-and-trade bill, was just shameful. And unforgivable. As others have noted: ‘Never before have so few taken so much from so many for so little.’ We will now turn our attention to making sure this crap legislation dies the miserable death it deserves in the senate. But when we’re finished with that, I promise to turn all of my attention to making sure you never represent this fine district again. If my representative is going to destroy my district, my state, and my country by voting for pointless liberal statist policies, it would be better done with a “D” after their name so as not to confuse voters, and to avoid further soiling the already teetering Republican brand.”

It’s been a long time since I lived in Northbrook.

I’m not sure if the district has been re-aligned.

When I was young Rumsfeld was the congressman. I believe Phil Crane succeeded him.

The GOP in Il had a chance to elect Kirk over Burress but, after yesterday, Kirk really hurt himself. Too damn bad.

that Obama won by a 23% margin. 2004 – Kerry won 52% to 47%, and
2000 – Gore won 51% to 47%.

I believe this qualifies the majority of those voting to be birkenstock-wearing hippies. I too, know people who are very conservative as well as religious who live there, but the leftist tinge in presidential elections is confirmed.

Bottom line is I will work against him when he runs for statewide office. His election margins have slimmed down considerably lately, so it is clear, at least to me, he voted to save his own skin. Case closed.

it is not worse for a liberal democrat to be in office. it is far, far worse when the opposition party cannot be counted on to oppose lunacy.

I would rather we had a slightly smaller minority but all people we can count on, that way we might be able to convince people that we are serious and have a real strategy for the problems of the country.

Whenever the waters are muddied by turncoats and fellow travelers we just lose.

So sorry you are WRONG. There is a time when it is better to go with the democrat.
