Doesn't EVERYBODY maintain a stock of firearms,

ammunition, MREs and canned goods, and lots of fuel for the generator(s)?

But then again, this may be the McGovern phenomenon for those of us who live in TX.

“I don’t know anybody who didn’t vote for McGovern”

becomes…..

“I don’t know anybody who doesn’t own at least 5 firearms”

100,000 Assorted Federal 210s and 215s, and the myriad 270 and 30 cal. bullets and casings, all ready to go on my progressive reloader?

Plenty of Pork and Beans to go around.

And our town has its own generator, apart from the National grid, so I think I’m ready.

This is one instance where living in an isolated rural area is really good.

So how's that socialized medicine in Mexico working so far?

That’s were we are headed if Obama gets his way.

Obamacare is s medical system with the compassion of the IRS, the customer services of the DMV and the cost efficiency of AMTRACK.

There’s never a bad time to stock up on food, ammo, and fuel.

We continue to monitor the southern border and watch for people coming in with the flu. Genius!

Now that 2 people are suspected to have died in LA from this and they are watching for people with the flu.

How bout, oh I don’t know, closing the freaking border to non-citizens.

The website is excellent.

Don’t let the title fool you, but the articles “Guidance for Clinicians & Public Health Professionals” is a good read for those who wish to get a comprehensive look at what doctors are doing, what they know is effective, and how they are being coordinated.

For instance, people mention that neuramidase inhibitors are effective against this strain of flu, but HAVEN’T been mentioning that a second class of antivirals, adamantine-based inhibitors, are ineffective. This implies thatTamiflu and the like aren’t the only line of pharmaceutical defense out there. Next time, it might be the other class. Good to know, and good to have the second weapon in the arsenal. Good to know that Pharma is staking out different strategies and coming up with complementary answers.

All post-2001 era achievements, directly (government) or indirectly (American health system) thanks to George W Bush.

Remember, we had NONE of these things in including especially flu vaccines, 1918. Even if this time around the flu had the same potential, we’re armed to the teeth with biochemistry, virology, epidemiology, hygiene, instant coordination, municipal sanitation, and public awareness/understanding (sadly I think the weakest link here, which might have been our strongest asset even in the absense of any of the other protections). 90 years of sweating the possibilities have paid off.

An American Century of dividends to the world. No charge, babies. Consider it our pleasure.

I just want to say firearms should be chosen carefully.

Chemical Sam (Diary) Tuesday, April 28th at 11:37AM EST (link)

Conventional firearms would produce one hell of a “sneeze”, something you wouldn’t want in a pandemic situation, especially if you’re in close quarters…

May I suggest a flame thrower. Kills and sanitizes all at once. Works on flu-zombies. Creates lots of excellent greenhouse gases as a fringe benefit.

Easier to make homegrown napalm than

Achance (Diary) Tuesday, April 28th at 11:41AM EST (link)

to make smokeless powder or, these days, to get some calibers of ammo! That said, I’ll stick to my trusty Mossberg 500, 12 guage as my SHTF weapon.

That stuff's easy, but it hasn't come to that yet...

We’re one step closer to “that” now that Specter decided to go all turncoat. Good riddance.

This just in. Israeli minister wants it renamed to the "Mexican Flu".

NightTwister (Diary) Tuesday, April 28th at 11:39AM EST (link)

No, really.

Deputy Health Minister Yakov Litzman said the reference to pigs is offensive to both religions and “we should call this Mexican flu and not swine flu,” he told a news conference Monday at a hospital in central Israel.

Apparently offending Mexicans isn’t a problem for them.

janis (Diary) Tuesday, April 28th at 11:54AM EST (link)

go that route first. Didn’t necessarily think they would want to call it “Mexican Flu”, but something more along the lines of “Curse of the Crusaders.”

This just in! Swine Flu Pandemic ALL Republicans fault!!!

General_Confusion (Diary) Tuesday, April 28th at 11:47AM EST (link)

Renowned ultra righty conservative senator Susan Collins removed $870 million from the Porkulus Bill, er, Stimulus Bill funding for pandemic flu preparedness.

To quote Fox News:
Collins is one of three Republicans who worked with Democrats to pare down the stimulus bill by more than $100 billion. Among the items that were slashed was $870 million in flu-fighting money, which Collins lobbied against.

That’s right she SLASHED $870 million from the paltry $787 BILLION package. Doesn’t she understand that throwing money at a problem ALWAYS solves it?!

Despite the “Bipartisan” support and reaching across the aisle Senator Collins is still considered EVIL due to being a Republican. Democrat supporters did thank her for the cover and the willingness to be a convenient scapegoat.

Maybe we could outsource our medical knowledge to Cuba since our HHS secretary nominee is busy in tax court.
