lets face it, the man had no idea the job was 24/7/365 when he took it. And there is no “Present” button in the Oval Office — believe me, he has looked!

Bulls basketball games can be tiring, as can dance lines in the White House kitchen.

Clinton had the same kind of rocky start, and the press was quick to cut him slack: Oh, since Democrats are unused to governing, they need more time to assemble a proper team, etc.

As I recall, Bush was pretty darn efficient.

And given the number of other foreign relations blunders this administration has done so far (Overcharge button anyone?), I suspect it really is just incompetence and ignorance.

But maybe he really does hate the British.

God help us all if this is how he’s going to “repair” the US image around the world.

Do we organize an attack on this inept administration ASAP, or do we wait for Obama to further weaken America’s ability to defend itself.

I wonder how many New York City or DC residents are starting to reassess the risk of living in these prime targets. I’m sure many 9/11 families regret allowing their loved ones work at the site of the 1992 bombing attempt.

Protocol exists precisely to prevent these kinds of episodes. To digress a moment — the word derives from the Greek proto , meaning “first” and collon, meaning “glue”. When a messenger carried a document from one city to another, a summary of the contents was pasted to the outside of the message to provide a quick review of themessage and to prevent misunderstanding or misreading of the full document.

Protocol, in other words, is a system for executing frictionless social interaction at a very high level, with the goal of preventing misunderstanding and of providing clarity. It is rule-bound, conventional and rigid. It is formal, not spontaneous. It is a system that all nations adhere to and understand. It is predictable.

The exchange of gifts is a part of protocol, like events, state dinners, and so on. I have seen comments here and elsewhere that a hearty “thanks, Gordo” or a polite thank you note from Obama would have sufficed. No.

The fact is that the Obamas have no understanding of the formal requirements of the Presidency. This was obvious from the classless, clueless Inaugural celebration, and has continued ever since. This is the tackiest White house evah! There are several reasons for this.

The formal events and relations, including the ceremonial exchange of gifts between heads of state, fall into two offices. One is the Office of the Chief of Protocol. This is part of the State Department; the COP holds the rank of Ambassador and the title of Assistant Secretary (hence requires Senate Confirmation). This office handles diplomatic accreditation, state dinners, Blair house and other aspects of state visits.

The office has been vacant since Jan 20, 2009. There’s an acting COP, but obviously the office is effectively non functional.

The second office is the White House Social Secretary, which handles scheduling, events in the White House, and so on. This office is held by one Desiree Rogers, a fashionista and Obama crony who holds a Harvard MBA and ran some kind of housing scam in Chicago.

Normally these two positions are filled by people who have the time, the money and the inclination to master the excruciatingly tedious minutiae of protocol: the titles, the ranks, the names and so on. This usually translates into a member of the upper clawses — a career ambassador, a socialite with three names (JFK had Angier Biddle Duke) or a clebrity/veteran of many charity or social events (Ford had Shirley Temple Black). These are not hard positions to fill, but to do so the Obamas would have to reach beyond their immediate circle.

We now see the consequences of the failure to grasp the formal requirements of occupying the White House. We have seen this before — Clinton was notoriously informal in the Oval Office — but never to this extent.

This is not just a matter of manners, either. The first time Obama displayed his cluelessness on protocol was during the Presidential campaign, when he stated in a debate that he would meet without preconditions with the heads of hostile governments. This was not a matter of policy — though it was presented by Obama’s campaign and the obsequious media as a daring and courageous change from the evil and stupid Bush, who refused to do this. All of Obama’s rivals naturally knew, from experience, that these matters were dealt with at a lower level — arranged and established through protocol. Obama did not know this hence his answer. We are still dealing with the consequences of his ignorance.

Much of the responsibility for the smooth operation of the formal side of the White House, of course, rests with the First Lady, who sets the tone. In this regard, Michelle Obama is entirely inadequate. Nothing in her background or education seems to have prepared her for the position she holds, which is to oversee the non-policy aspects of the running of the White house. We can expect a continuation of her louche, bumptious manner and rude, ungrammatical speech — though the White House has wisely restricted itself to photo ops and fashion spreads, where they can control the content.

To sum up — the administration needs to go beyond the obamas circle of hacks, flacks, thugs, gangsters, crooks and terrorists, and hire a team of scoial advisors to bring them up to speed on protocol. They need to appoint a COP, replace Rogers and her team, and find someone to guide Michelle through the mazes of normal social interaction.

Oh, and dont look for help to your secretary of State! Hillary Clinton is at least as maladroit as the Obamas, to judge from her own gift blunder!

That this buffoon represents the United States of America. Words cannot really describe the thoughtless, rude, condescending attitude this conveys to one of our oldest allies. You couldn’t make this stuff up if you tried. Even slick willy the white trash king was more thoughtful. This is what happens when you elect an empty suit who has done absolutely NOTHING to lead the free world. Nice job USA! You elected the biggest empty suit on two feet to lead us into the oblivion! Oh and nice by Hillary and the state department to insult a former president in their meeting win the Russians! I GUARANTEE the Russians were laughing at the stupidity of this administration. “Nobody could elect someone this stupid!” Well, let’s see what happens when the Russians annex Georgia! God help us all!

Glenn Beck just gave that suggestion, and I for one will be doing so…. Send a Letter, or just a Thank You card with a brief note, of apology for the fact that the current occupant of the WH (and how we want to correct that mistake ASAP) is a complete moron, inexperienced, crude and rude, etc…. and that we truly appreciate the relationship between them and us….

I don’t expect that he’ll get a very warm reception after the drubbing he’s gotten in the British press. Ought to be interesting to see how he handles that…..

If recollection serves me correctly, one brave reporter was willing to compare the McCain campaign plane to the Obama campaign plane and it wasn’t favorable to BO.

He said the plane was stinky, dirty and that BO treated the reporters as second class citizens.

As BO continues to embarrass us for the next 4 years, perhaps that bunch of mouth breathing troglodytes will remember that while they were condemning GWB for his lack of international flair, they were covering for a boor who would soon make a fool of himself and our entire nation.
