NY Governor: Jesus Was Black

Barack Obama has been criticized for his career as a self-aggrandizing busybody, aka community organizer. Of late we’ve been told that Jesus the Christ was a community organizer (on the basis of what evidence I’m more than a little unclear), this presumably is to let us know just how IMPORTANT, nay VITAL, this job is. I mean if this syllogism is true your very salvation is in danger unless you, yourself, are a community organizer.

Now we discover by way of New York’s accidental governor that not only was Christ a community organizer but that community organizer is a sinister Republican dogwhistle for “black.”

Paterson sees the repeated use of the words “community organizer” as Republican code for “black”.

“I think where there are overtones is when there are uses of language that are designed to inhibit other people’s progress with a subtle reference to their race,” he said.

Needless to say, this has left me confused. I started out mocking Obama because he is a zero-gravity poseur but in the space of a couple of days I’ve gone from that to mocking him because he is Christ to mocking him because he is black. But if being Christ-like is good doesn’t that make being black good and therefore wouldn’t it be counter-intuitive for those of us desperately clinging to our Bibles, guns, and prejudices to even snicker in our sleeves at The One?

My esteemed governor (pity me)...

has helped us to define racism:

One who isn’t a racist acts the way he acts regardless of the race of the individuals around him.

A racist sees race everywhere.

Sighhhh…

A 172+ IQ is so high that most people have never met someone with one, and would certainly remember if they had. For example, I spent most of my childhood with family members etc. fussing about how smart I was and I think I tested at 138 once.

Barry is a bright boy and speaks wonderfully from prepared texts, but he utterly and completely lacks the long string of concrete achievments at every level and lifelong trail of awestruck classmates, teachers, mentors, employers, co-workers & professional peers that are the hallmarks for example of such federal judges (whatever one thinks of their jurisprudence) as Roberts, Alito, Scalia, Ginsburg, Stevens, Posner, Silberman and the late Rehnquist, Powell & Arnold.

Hell, DOUG Ginsburg at the same age had a far more impressive resume than Barry does now, it’s not even close.

What a pathetic joke, and besides, I thought Dems were AGAINST standardized tests. Aren’t they racist, sexist, classist, and don’t accurately measure intelligence of any kind? Sure wouldn’t want to use them for job applications or school admissions now would we?

Where does the whole "Black Jesus" thing come from anyway?

Raven (Diary) Wednesday, September 10th at 9:39PM EST (link)

I get the “White Jesus”. It’s wrong, but I understand it. But where does the idea that he was Black come from?
Look where he was from, after all.

IQ

Einstein had an IQ of 179. Obama isn’t even close to Einstein. Jefferson was around 150 and was a polymath. Obama doesn’t come up to him too. If I had to guess, somewhere around 140 at best.

It's pretty safe to say,

given what is known about genetics and anthropology at the time, that Jesus was certainly more ‘African’ than modern day Jews. Most likely, in terms of race, resembling a modern Egyptian, but slightly darker in complexion.

I'm intrigued

but I think you’ve made a lot of stuff up here. Got a cite for this claim.

There's a BBC article on the topic

That you migth find interesting.

Notable excerpts:

“The hair was the easiest – there’s a reference in Paul which says it’s disgraceful for a man to wear long hair, so it looks pretty sure that people of that period had to have reasonably short hair. The traditional depictions of Jesus with long flowing golden hair are probably inaccurate.”

Deciding on skin colour was more difficult, though. But the earliest depictions of Jews, which date from the 3rd Century, are – as far as can be determined – dark-skinned.

“We do seem to have a relatively dark skinned Jesus. In contemporary parlance I think the safest thing is to talk about Jesus as ‘a man of colour’.” This probably means olive-coloured, he says.

Professor Vincent Wimbush, of California’s Claremont Graduate University, who is an expert on ethnic interpretations of the Bible, says the matter of the historical colour of Jesus seems to him a “flat, dead-end issue”.

“He’s of Mediterranean stock, and it’s quite clear what that means. We see people like that in the world today, and that should end the matter.” The fact that the debate rages on regardless is fascinating, he says, because of what it says about people’s other issues.

Get Used to it

To those of us from the southern U.S.,this is nothing new. Every two years, some democrat who’s polling poorly will “discover” a new code word for black. No matter what the facts are, democrats will always cry racism.

The History Channel

Achance (Diary) Thursday, September 11th at 6:20AM EST (link)

had a program a year or two ago in which some archeologists and anthropologists with help from some sculptors took a shot at what a rural Israelite contemporary of Jesus would have looked like. They used burials from that period and tried to come up with a “generic” man of the time. As I recall their conclusion was that he would likely have been rather broad faced with a prominent nose and brow, brown-skinned, and stocky and like others of his station would have been clean shaven with short hair for sanitary reasons. (Until very recent times, one had to be pretty well off to stay clean enough to have long hair and a full beard without battling fleas and expecially lice constantly.)

Fun with Transitivity

MikeO Thursday, September 11th at 10:00AM EST (link)

Heh.

I had a similar thought with dogs/pigs/lipstick this week.

Governor Palin equated herself to a dog in her pit bull/hockey mom joke.

Professor “SMARTEST and BESTEST Middle East Expert in the WHOLE WIDE UNIVERSE” Juan Cole equated Governor Palin to islamic fundamentalists on salon.com.

Through transitivity, Juan Cole equated islamic fundamentalists to dogs.

Don’t islamic fundamentalists have a problem with dogs? I may be mistaken since I’m not the SMARTEST and BESTEST Middle East Expert in the WHOLE WIDE UNIVERSE.

And then, Senator Obama [may have] equated Governor Palin with a pig. Taken with Juan Cole’s equating Governor Palin with islamic fundamentalists, Senator Obama called islamic fundamentalists pigs.

I’m pretty sure that islamic fundamentalists have a problem with pigs.

I wonder what RAGEBOY would think about all this (if he could think, that is)?
