Start the stop watch. Prepare for an Obama flip.

Iraq's efforts on 15 of 18 benchmarks are "satisfactory" — almost twice of what it determined to be the case a year ago, the White House reports in a new assessment to Congress. The May 2008 report card, obtained by the Associated Press, determines that only two of the benchmarks — enacting and implementing laws to disarm militias and distribute oil revenues — are unsatisfactory.
In the past 12 months, since the White House released its first formal assessment of Iraq's military and political progress, Baghdad politicians have reached several new agreements seen as critical to easing sectarian tensions.
I suspect that at any time Barack Obama will throw under the bus his former opposition to the war and declare it both a success and acknowledge that he always knew it was going to be successful.
But don't you call him on it. If you do, you are a dirty racist.

The Lunatic Left may hold their noses over FISA, for example, but anything that continues an American presence in Iraq will not be tolerated. To stay is to validate the Left's worst fear--the United States has not been defeated.
I know many of my fellow Republicans feel the same as you Erick and believe Obama won't withdraw, yadda, yadda, but this is wrong. He will do exactly what he says on this one. He can't politically do otherwise. Let there be no mistake on this point.
his whole party failed on that because they wanted to. They wanted to keep the war going so they could play it for political advantage. They never expected the surge to work, they in fact said it failed. The war ending would screw the Dems, that has been the only thing that they have been about for 5 years now. They have been using it to try and win the Presidency. To me '06 was about 2 things the war and corruption. Now the corruption was getting bad in congress because a few bad apples spoiled the bunch. The war on the other hand was more important to the right people in the right places. Now that the Petraeus strategy of counter-insurgency has proven success' the Dems will probably try to claim it as their own. In fact the seeds of this have already been planted. I am sure you remember hearing Dems in the recent months claiming that they made the surge happen by calling for a change in strategy?[it's too early in the morning here or I would find a link...check back later..;^)..] With the surge now an obvious success what else can the Dems do, this is after all their nature. Triangulate and Calculate Admit to Nothing, Deny Everything, and Make Counter-Accusations. I bet he flips so hard on this that they are gonna need to put his back in traction.

I do agree with your assessment of the war. Nonetheless, this is the one thing he will do. I'm sure he'll use his fine, empty rhetoric to obfuscate, but you can look at your watch for another reason: Obama will pull out and damn the consequences to the United States. This is the one and only area where he can't screw his left-wing base and he won't.

The Democrats began stating months ago that even if the War in Iraq were successful, it wasn't worth the sacrifice that the U.S. has made. That is the "out" that Obama will take. He will praise the troops for their good work, take a breath, and then say that it wasn't worth it.
This could be a winning strategy because right now the War in Iraq is very unpopular among Americans. When and if that changes, Obama will flip like a really, really flippy thing (sorry, still early).

...I'm going to flip-flop (seems only fitting) because I remembered an interview that I saw last week with an Obama apologist which wound up being a replay of other interviews of other Obama apologists that I had seen previously.
Toward the end of the interview, the interviewer had boiled everything down to "Okay, you say that Obama has the 'judgement to lead' and McCain doesn't. Where has Obama shown that he has greater judgement than McCain?"
And, without batting an eye, the apologist said "Obama opposed the Iraq War." And that was it. Nothing more. No examples of leadership, no examples of ground-breaking legislation. Nada. Just "Obama opposed the Iraq War."
If he flip-flops on this one and says that the Iraq War was a good thing, then that would be and admission that his one good "judgement," upon which he has staked so much, was dead wrong.
Therefore, I throw my previous comment under the bus. My previous comment isn't the previous comment that I knew.

The sad thing is that this probably didn't even make the MSM nightly news last night. I saw it on FOX but I am not sure if I saw it anywhere else.
