Cue CNN - Get Reid And Pelosi To A Microphone: Declare Defeat Before Someone Wins

CNN is helping set the stage for the Democrats to stand up as the quitters they are, only THIS time Iraqi Soldiers must be declared beaten before the battle is over. Nothing new here, folks...move along now. Two days is enough time to determine that wherever there is resistance from an enemy, the "good guys" need to Tuck Tail and Run™.
The Iraqi military push into the southern city of Basra is not going as well as American officials had hoped, despite President Bush's high praise for the operation, several U.S. officials said Friday.
A closely held U.S. military intelligence analysis of the fighting in Basra shows that Iraqi security forces control less than a quarter of the city, according to officials in both the United States and Iraq, and Basra's police units are deeply infiltrated by members of radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr's Mehdi Army.
"This is going to go on for a while," one U.S. military official said.
"Go on for a while" is all the Democrat Media Wing needs to hear; stiff resistance = fight is lost.
Re-tooled and re-armed by his stick buddy, Ahmadinejad, Mookie is hunkering his sorry fat butt down in a Mosque somewhere while his thugs and minions are executing what appears to be phase III of a proclaimed "civil disobedience" against the Iraqi government. Civil disobedience, apparently, translates into "armed insurrection" over in Iraq...imagine the spray paint-toting hippies down on Constitution Ave. performing this kind of civil disobedience, AK-47 and IED in hand...where do you think THAT would go in a matter of HOURS instead of days?
More below the "we like winning" fold...
Nonetheless, as the Iraq Government and its Military Commands and Commanders confront Sadr's Army and attend to the self-destruct mess Sadr's goons are making of their OWN country, the wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth here on the home front continues unabated.
If you chose to listen to other folks-say Bill Roggio for example, [via Instapundit] you might think Iraq is gearing up and getting after these traitors to their own country. Heck, you might even find reason for optimism that, given enough time to sort through the mess and assess the situation on the ground there and allocate the necessary resources to the effort, we might actually get this thing done:
Fighting in Basrah and Baghdad and throughout much of the South continues as Iraqi security forces and Multinational Forces Iraq press the fight against the Mahdi Army and other Iranian-backed terror groups. The Iraqi Army has moved additional forces to Basrah as the US and Iraqi military have conducted significant engagements in Shia areas of Baghdad. The Mahdi Army has taken significant casualties. The US military has denied the Mahdi Army has taken control of checkpoints in Baghdad.
Several hundred Iraqis are reported to have been killed during the fighting since the operation began on March 25. A large majority of them are Mahdi Army fighters, according to the press reports. The US and Iraqi military have killed more than 70 Mahdi Army fighters in Shia neighborhood in Baghdad alone over the past three days.
Of course, that would not jibe well with the formula for defeat we've had to listen to for the past 3 or 4 years...there are people who's political ambitions rest squarely in the laps of American and Iraqi defeat after all.
Consider Michael Goldfarb's Blog and a post there...again by Roggio... which suggests that we "give war a chance:" [again, via Instapundit]
The Iraqi military launched Operation Knights' Assault against the Mahdi Army and other Iranian-backed Shia terrorist groups in Basra three days ago, and the media is quick to call the operation a failure. The New York Times has declared the military offensive in Basra has "stalled" just two days after the operation began, with the Mahdi Army controlling some neighborhoods and Iraqi armored vehicles are unable to enter some neighborhoods as the streets are too narrow.
The Times Online is claiming the Mahdi Army has overrun checkpoints throughout Baghdad, some without a fight. The Multinational Division Baghdad categorically denied this in a follow-up question to THE WEEKLY STANDARD earlier this morning.
"All checkpoints and ISF [Iraqi security forces] buildings are in ISF and/or Coalition control. No checkpoint is in enemy control," said Lieutenant Colonel Steve Stover, the Public Affairs Officer for the 4th Infantry Division and Multinational Division Baghdad. "There were several cases where the ISF needed our assistance (and more often than not--did not) and either CF 9Coalition forces ground or air responded and either reinforced or took back in a couple occasions the CP or IP (Iraqi Police) building--none of that happened today."
Keep in mind how the newspapers and television were quick to declare the initial invasion in Iraq a quagmire as a sandstorm slowed the U.S. assault force in southern Iraq for several days. Also remember the media was quick to declare the surge a failure in its opening month in February 2007, despite the fact that sufficient forces would not be in place until June 2007.
It's important to note (well, for those of us that actually PREFER to win wars and see all the bad guys killed) that these things take time and hard work and sacrifice...of course Democrats don't see the world this way-they see everything through the prism of "what can someone GIVE me that I don't have to actually DO anything to earn?" And as hard as Roggio tries to explain this effort and sacrifice, it's unlikely that the media wing of the Democrat party will ever GET it:
Military operations take time to develop, and, as the saying goes, the enemy also gets a vote. The Mahdi Army has been entrenched in these neighborhoods in Baghdad and Basra, so it is natural that it will take time to root out the militias in these areas. This operation needs to develop before it can be called a success or failure, and that will take weeks or even months.
Putting aside the quick call from CNN and others to assume defeat and prepare for more bad news in the days ahead, it should not go unstated that Mookie is already calling for an end to the fighting, and seeks a political solution...he's starting to sound an awful lot like a couple Democrats I know.
Letting Roggio have the last word here (so much more eloquently than I could ever say it), I give you this food for thought:
One thing to keep in mind is Muqtada al Sadr, the leader of the Mahdi Army, is pressing for an end to the fighting. If Sadr's Mahdi Army was doing so well, why would he call for an end to the fighting? Another item to consider is that U.S. troops have yet to enter the fighting in full force. Other than some skirmishes in Baghdad--the U.S. has killed at least 60 Mahdi Army fighters in Baghdad the past three days--support in Basra has been limited to air, logistical, and special operations support. The U.S. military has yet to fully weigh in as it is letting the Iraqi Army take the lead in Basrah. Sadr knows this.
Too bad the Democrats and the MSM don't get it...

we all should get ready for the MSM attack...first phase is this, next phase is to slam General Petraeus when he gets back to town, final stage is the full court press this summer to show we've failed in iraq, and beat that drum until the fall.
They will never get it, and they make me sick.
I have to think this is the last straw for Mookie...time to silence him for good.

first time we took Sadr city, we had him hunkered down in a Mosque...but Sistani talked us out of it-promised to get Mookie into the fold...how'd that work out for us?
And...I wonder what ole Sistani is thinkin' these days about his little "controllable" poodle...

is not an issue anymore. I never truly bought into the "if we take him out, who comes next" mentality.
It is my hope that, where ever this robed turd is, the Iraqi forces take him out and keep moving down his chain of command.

All we've heard is statements purportedly from him read and perhaps written by henchmen.
Has he been seen anywhere? The last credible rumor I heard that he was still alive had him in a a coma in a hospital in Tehran, treated by doctors from the former Soviet Union.
Please not that I'm not reporting this as gospel; rather, I think we should consider that he just might be dead. DEAD. DEAD.
Mookie's got "spokespeople" like UBL has "spokespeople" so the question is a fair one...perhaps Mahmoud has him under wraps?

Could have a big sign
America the Opinions of the press are not those of the nation
I really can't believe that after 6 years they are still playing this trick. Perhaps the families of anyone killed or wounded on our side should sue. They could use this as a theory of liability
Negative U.S. media linked to increased insurgent attacks
And btw thanks Haystack great story just a tough way to get the dander up in the morning.

It would seem, however unlikely, that the humans in America have somehow spawned a new variation in the species…to be known as “Homo Invertebrateus”.
Examples of this unfortunate, mutated strain can often be found registering as Democrats, and gibbering loudly in fragmented sentences heavy with alliterative and rhyming sounds.
Every time these defeatists speak, I’m reminded of King Arthur’s Knights shouting “Run away! Run away!” when confronted with the “Rabbit with Big, Pointy Teeth”. If it weren’t that so many mindless drones listen to them, I could almost laugh.
Almost.
Then I remember how freaking dangerous it is for our guys over there, and how these spineless punks make it even harder for them. Then I get mad again.
Thank God for all you folks here. Visiting RS helps keep me sane, surrounded as I am by amoebas here in Northern VA.

everything that is missing from the mainstream reporting on the war. [Especially the factual part.]
Great job haystack.
Fighting for conservatism one day at a time.
Calm, collected, letting the facts speak for themselves...personal outrage ratcheted down to a dull roar...all very difficult, but decent "stretch" goals.

A reporter once asked a Texas Ranger was once asked why he carried a ".45" and he answered, "Because they don't make a ".46".
The Dems haven't said anything about it, neg or pos. "Unidentified" military officials are the ones who are giving up all the info about how bad it's going. Right - Pelosi and Reid's cowardice will be the reason for America's failures though, not the past 5 years of failures, this only being the most recent. I can't wait for a Dem administration to convict the current one as war criminals. Send Bush Cheney and Rumsfeld's asses to prison, hopefully one of those ones where they strip ya nekked and take pictures with dogs and bags on yer head.

Go easy on him folks-there are only so many pieces left in chrisK' Democrat-deluded little brain-don't work him over too rough-he might have amnesia until election day...

Good thing the MSM ain't the only game in town anymore.

I try hard to keep separate the three issues of how we got into the Iraq mess in the first place, how we got to where we are in 2008, and where we go from here in the future.
It would be catastrophic for America to be chased out of Iraq by a ragtag group of terrorists armed with IEDs and mortars. I really hope Petraeus is successful in pacifying Iraq, even if it takes a while yet.
But that doesn't excuse the catastrophic failures of the Bush Administration for having blundered us into this mess in the first place.
Nor does it excuse the failures of the Bush Administration for allowing the insurgency to smolder, till Bush finally got off his butt in 2007 and ordered the surge. That surge could have, and should have, been ordered two years earlier.
Nor does it excuse the failures of the Bush Administration for allowing al-Sadr and his Shiite militias to tool around Iraq and commute back and forth to Iran, while the Shiite-dominated government in Baghdad winked at it. Unlike Bush, I would have razed Fallujah to the ground before I would give it back to the enemy. If Al-Sadr wanted it back so badly, I would have employed the Israeli method and bulldozed it out of existence first.
Bush forgot he's a commander-in-chief of a nation at WAR and thought of himself as the Great Liberator of the Iraqi People. Hey, Bush, the Iraqi people don't matter to me as much as the AMERICAN people do. We elected you, not THEM.
got anything else going on? this is the second thread you are attempting to beat up on President Bush on....oh and let me remind you he is the President so why don't you try putting that in front of his name....and he is the great liberator of the Iraqi people and he has made sure we the American people have not been attacked again in 7 years....his record is damn good on the GWOT.
Freedom of Religion not Freedom from Religion
When in point of fact, Freedom FROM Government enforced theology is exactly what was intended by the founding fathers.
If any MSM outlet said this the many of the viewers would denounce anything else negative said about the Iraq situation. There is no other key then this statement "and other Iranian-backed Shia terrorist groups in Basra" that if given wide enough attention would have America united against the enemy.
But that would mean the MSM would have to be pro-America and pro-Win and they won;t be that.
An amazing post Haystack.

He was useful while there was a ceasefire for the last seven months.
Now he is no longer useful. He is alive and in Iran, we should find a way to ensure he never makes it back to Iraq.
Obama is Jimmy Carter- only without the sweater.
May I have permission to post this on my local Newspaper online Blog? Too many Libs need to see this.

It is apparent that with the resurgence of Shiite militias in Iraq, the inability of the Iraqi government to quash the uprising, and four days of sustained mortar bombardments of the Green Zone, that the US surge has provided only ephemeral relief for the worn torn country. British troops have been forced to reenage, Iraqi forces seem as incompetent as ever, and the US has once again had to step up its efforts.
If that is "winning", I'd hate to see what losing looks like.

Why would God invent something like whiskey? To keep the Irish from ruling the world of course
What gets me is that so many in the MSM show such a willful ignorance regarding war & conflict. Any resistance by the enemy is immediately trumpeted as sign of sure defeat. I know that war is not a game, however do they have their children leave the field when the other team comes to bat?
whitehouse 08 The great concern, and largely ignored by the media, is that Islamofascist states are growing and are on the move.We cannot wage a war on Islamofascists while are leaders and the media are unwilling to Identify the enemy. "political correctness" will be the downfall for this country.
whitehouse 08 For those who do not understand the war I will clue you in. Obviosly, the most active front on our war against Islamofascism is Iraq. Al-Qaeda is in Iraq and the bitterinternal struggle now being fought there is a war between moderate Muslims and Islamofascists. If that struggle is lost to radical Islamofascists.Iran is poised to become the dominant player in the middle east. ahmadinejad is the world leader of the Islamofascists. We are in the process of witnessing Islamofascism transfer itself from a terrorist org, operating as a rogue state, into govern-led, state sponsored terrorist war machine.

If we were actually keeping score at this point, the Iraqi Army is handling the situation with minimal help from us--check. Mookie is calling for an end to the fighting, signaling that he doesn't think this will produce longlasting victory for him--check. And hundreds of Iraqis--Mahdi fighters who are killing their own countrymen, or Iranians looking to foment trouble in Iraq--are now dead which is good for us AND the Iraqi people--check.
Yep, it's a disaster and it's time for us to surrender and run away. Check, check, and check--may God save us all from the stupidity and downright self-serving cowardice of those who would abandon this fight and leave this country to drown in blood and violence.
