Tancredo Not Pulling Back
Interviewing Tancredo

I've been talking with the Tancredo campaign about doing an email interview with the Colorado Congressman and presidential candidate. While the interview process was unfolding I posted about the Rocky Mountain News article stating Congressman Tancredo plans to scale back his presidential candidacy. I have been assured that the Rocky Mountain News got it wrong:
I'll be clear: We are not pulling back.
I asked the Congressman three questions:
1. How can you convince Republicans that your candidacy should be taken seriously when you haven't broken 1 percent in a national poll, and David Yepsen, the dean of Iowa political reporters, writes that you seem more interested in making a point than in becoming president?
2. Given your opposition to the revised strategy in Iraq, the so-called "surge," and your statements that there will be a long term U.S. presence in Iraq, what would you do to achieve victory in Iraq?
3. What would be the top five goals of a Tancredo presidency and how would President Tancredo go about achieving those goals?
His answers can be seen in the following video:
Read on.
Securing the Border, Pursuing the War Against the Radical Islamists, Economic Vibrancy, and Energy Independence. Good goals.
I want to thank Congressman Tancredo for letting us get to know him a little better.

Rep. Tancredo has a higher lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union than any other presidential candidate.
He has consistently received a rating of "100" from the National Right to Life Committee during his time in Congress.
"The defense of our nation begins with the defense of our borders." - Rep. Tom Tancredo
We all agree that it is inevitable, if not long overdue already, that the GOP field be thinned out. Fred Thompson is rising in the polls, and delaying his formal announcement. Suppose it's being timed to a withdrawal by some of the candidates..say Tancredo, Hunter, Gilmore, for example...who announce they are dropping out and endorsing Thompson, who then announces that he hopes and expects that they would serve in a Thompson administration....say, Tancredo for DHS, Hunter for Defense..it has many interesting possibilities..
He, me and a bit north of 300,000,000 other US residents aren't going to get elected President in 2008.
Envisioning when all that is Left is the Right.
We should stop confronting aQI where we know they are now and turn that job over to the Iraqis. Then we should position ourselves so that we can respond (how?) to other aQ threats (to whom?) in the region. (Unless that gets too tough?) At least he didn't suggest "redeployment" to Okinawa.
Emphasis on "bungles" in Iraq steams me. Can anyone point to a significant war that has not had commensurate "bungles" by both sides? Even the little deployments to Haiti, Panama, Kosovo, etc. were "bungled." Victory belongs to those who press on in spite of the inevitable bungles.

But with his chasing the Presidency, there are people preparing to run for his seat - and the longer he stays out there spending money on a presidential race he can never win, taking us for granted back home in his district, the easier it will be to have someone sneak in and take his seat form him in a primary.
Tom needs to fish or cut bait on his seat. Othewise he risks losing in November of 2008 if he wins the primary - or sooner if he gets a solid challenger.

I like Tancredo. Out of all the candidates, he is probably the most conservative (his lifetime ACU rating is 97.8). Hope his campaign goes well.
