Sean Parnell: Even or Ahead of Don Young in AK Polling

While RedState was not mentioned, Alaska Lt. Governor Sean Parnell gets a lot of coverage in CQ Politics today.

Democrats have been salivating over the opportunity to unseat Republican Rep. Don Young as he seeks an 18th full-term as Alaska’s lone House representative, but Republicans may beat them to the punch.

Republican Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell stands a strong chance of defeating Young in the party’s Aug. 26 primary, according to recent polls and analysts, which would provide Democrats with a new opponent for the general election.

Sean Parnell is polling even with or above Don Young in the latest polls from the state.

The additional beauty of this is that the Democrats are expecting to run against Don Young. A Parnell victory will throw them for a loop.

Who is stepping up to challenge Stevens in this primary? If Young can be taken out by a strong conservative this cycle, surely Stevens could be also.

If Alaska conservatives couldn't get it together and run a serious candidate, then it's their (and our) loss.

I'm not aware of anybody strong challenging Stevens in the primary. Most of the conservative candidates are niche candidates that have their one local issue. I'm going to hold my nose and vote for Stevens this year, out of self preservation more than anything. We need to get Alaska's resources online sooner than later nobody in the field is going to help more than Ted (though I will argue he should have gotten it done sometime in the last 30 years)

I'll certainly be voting for Parnell in the primary on the house side, but he'll have to make a believer out of me in the general.

Something for you guys to keep tabs on should Parnell win the general. The natural gas pipeline proposal is being considered starting next week. The plan Palin picked isn't exactly a popular one (foreign company, no gas leases, feeds directly to Canada) should the plan get approved or something comes out that wasn't exactly to the benefit of the state watch for Palin and Parnell's popularity to hit the floor. I'm in the camp that any plan at this point to get things moving is a good one, so I'm fine with what Palin is doing, but I'm a strange dude.

This is just like CA-4 by Neil Stevens

The Democrats so badly wanted to run against Doolittle, but Eric Egland and Red State got the job done knocking him out.

And now as a bonus we're probably going to get the proven conservative Tom McClintock in that seat!

So here's hoping Parnell will be one of ours like McClintock will be.

Great news! by Jill1066

I'm delighted to read this news. Don Young is an embarrassment to our team and needs to be retired before any potential legal issues arise.
