Quote of the Day, with a digression.

And an amusing Civil War General reference!

No, not that, like General Lee, Senator Obama really badly needs to win in Pennsylvania next month. Although he does.

Anyway, the quote is not this comment from James Carville regarding his comparison of Gov. Bill Richardson to Judas Iscariot:

"I was quoted accurately and in context, and I was glad to give the quote and I was glad I gave it," Mr. Carville said. "I’m not apologizing, I’m not resigning, I’m not doing anything."

...it's this comment from Allahpundit, full of bemusement that it looks like Carville will actually get away with it.

Is "damn right I meant it" the new hallmark of admirable buck-stops-here character? I kind of wish Obama had taken this approach in his Wright speech, extending a middle finger and then letting his media sycophants spin the hell out of it for him. "'The bird' — obscene gesture or eloquent expression of speaking truth to power?" wonders Chris Matthews on Hardball.

It would have been a significant change in tone - possibly one that might have worked better for him in the long run, particularly in the Rust Belt states. On the other hand, if Senator Obama had the self-confidence necessary to pull off such a gambit he'd have run a completely different primary campaign anyway. One where he'd have either clinched the nomination by now - or crashed and burned, true, but you have to bet big to win big*. What was that comment about General Joe Hooker, again?

Oh yes: something along the lines of how he was the best poker player in the world, until it came time to raise the pot a thousand dollars.
