Present Instead of No

Having blasted the House GOP this week, let me praise them today.

They got fed up with the Democrats playing games with the lives of our troops. The Democrats, in pushing their war supplemental, highlighted their real priorities. In order, they were tax increases on the entrepreneurial class, spending on liberal social programs, tying the hands of the Commander-in-Chief, and screwing the war criminals in Iraq troops.

The GOP did the only thing left they could do -- they refused to participate in the game. Instead of even voting no, they voted present. It had a lot of people scratching their heads, but these people paid attention and asked why.

And, again, the answer is simple: the Democrats are playing games with the lives of our soldiers in harm's way. They do not want to fund the troops, but they know they have to. So they are trying to fund everything else first and daring the President to veto the funding.

He will. He should. And the GOP continues to be the party that stands up for the troops. Here's Roy Blunt on the matter:

the bottom line on this week's bill was it was never designed to fund the troops. The Democrats knew that this would not be a bill signed into law. It was designed to be a package that used the troops to do other spending that they know they can't get done without the troops.

Republican members voted present on that section of the bill. We then demonstrated we had the veto-sustaining strength that everybody knew we had on the other two sections of the bill.

Freedom of Religion not Freedom from Religion

...from our esteemed leaders in the GOP. They can't get it right on agriculture, energy, illegal immigration, earmarking, housing, or domestic spending, but by God they can show some resolve on war funding. And, I guess, good for them, because at least somebody is trying to do right by our armed forces. But for crying out loud, can't they show some spine when dealing with special interests, activists and other sundry bottom-feeding libtards?! If they had this kind of resolve on the other important issues, we wouldn't be staring down a dark tunnel at an oncoming freight train.

How could we have slogans in the fall about his habit of either being absent or voting Present on controversial items if we just did the same as a political stunt?

I had always pictured ads/slogans this fall like:
- "You can't just vote Present in the war on terror."
- Obama-clone answering the 3am call, listening intently for a moment, and then saying "Present" and hanging up.

Instead of trying to keep the present votes quiet - like Obama tried to do - we speak very loudly and very forthrightly about why we did a particular present vote, and we don't apologize for doing it. The Democrats can splutter all they like about it, but they know and we know that the American voting public is going to mostly ignore the boring details and focus on who looks ashamed of what they did.

Which, by the way, is actually smart of the American voting public.

How about voting pork... This would signal to the public you objected because of pork in the bill

An Obama stance while he was a State Senator... I can now see the D attack adds...

Its despicable that Dianne Feinstein and Larry (The Tapper) Craig are using the defense funding legislation to usurp the will of America's Citizens and force amnesty for illegal aliens down our throats. Earlier today, Feinstein and Craig pulled a few strings and got the egregious AG-Jobs amnesty language into the war funding legislation as an amendment. Feinstein's and Craigs attempt at "stealth" passge of any amnesty bill that has failed to pass numerous time as a stand alone bill is an outrageous insult to our troops and to the tax payers and Citizens of this nation. I've already called and lambasted my Senate members regarding the atrocious antics of these two Senate members! The fact that amnesty for illegal aliens is not germain to military funding doesn't seem to phase Senate leaders as they are hoping they can avoid the consequences with voters by saying that the war funding was vital legislation and that they weren't aware that the AG-Jobs amendment wasn't even in the bill.

My senators are the illustrious Dick Durbin and Hopey McChangeypants. One is hyper-liberal, the other is too busy proving our media is in the tank for the destruction of America. I hate Illinois politicians. Where's my Bobby Jindal?!

that is very sad by Doc Holliday

I would actually have a tough time deciding who is worse.
