I may not have liked his politics, but he was one of those that defended our country and did that with honor.

Today is not a day for politics, it should be a day of respect for a Marine.

I never volunteered for the military and give the utmost respect for those that did serve.

John Murtha told the world, repeatedly, that eight U.S. Marines “killed innocent civilians in cold blood” in Haditha, a statement he took with him to his grave today, long after those Marines were exonerated.

If he hadn’t managed to worm out of ABSCAM 30 years ago he’d have been in prison and not in a position to chop these Marines’ legs out from under them.

You’ll have to hear these reminders here because the media isn’t going to mention a single word of this. The last thing we ought to be doing is giving them bipartisan cover for the elevation of John Murtha to Elder Statesman status.

John Murtha was about as low and as vile as a person could get and he destroyed good, honorable people. I’m sorry he’s dead, but I don’t forgive him and I’m not going to waste any well-wishes on his soul, assuming he had one.

Representing Dollar Bill Jefferson’s Louisiana district, he’s going to need to go off the reservation from time to time – sometimes far, far off.

We can either let this happen (with a little polite whining) and keep a generally-R vote, or we can hammer him until there’s another Dem in the seat.

I forgot his name, but the representative from my home town was a Dem and had dementia and went to the Republican party on election day. His did not know what he was doing for the last 4 or 5 years in office. But damn sure he voted the right way.

If Murtha’s family doesn’t have the common courtesy to apologize to those fine Marines I hope they never find a day of peace.

Be as kind and merciful as you wish to be, but don’t be fussing at anyone here who finds nothing good to say about this miserable little man.

As for his grieving family, they are cut from the same mold as he was– they enrich themselves at the expense of all of us. No one with the name “Murtha” should ever be allowed to hold public office again.

I feel sorry for his family. As for the state of his soul, that’s between him and God. I just think nobody feels the compelling need to pretend he wasn’t a corrupt old SOB.

The juries trying the Marines at Haditha were quite aware of what happened. Take note of the acquitals.

But some are not as forgiving and have very good reasons for it. I am not going to condemn them, but as you sad I thought that most of us are above this.

And this goes for everyone. I, myself and me will not go after someone when they are not even in the ground yet. These are human beings we are talking about. We all have our faults and weaknesses and as many have shown Mutha had many, and I agree with you. But as a person who tries to find good in everyone, even a curmudgeon liar like Murtha. And yes his family has been in the cookie jar along with him..

But out of common courtesy for someone that just died, I will not be one on the pile on of Murtha. Next week, tomorrow another story. Or when the Democrats use his funeral as a campaign fund raiser, I will be one of the first to condemn such idiocy.

Your comment above and this one, you have as free standing in this diary, and the whole point of BRW’s post was to recognize that a person died, and is just giving that individual the respect we give the dead. In fact, BRW, took the high road with this, some of us will remain silent, others will speak out, but your remarks make it seem as if the diarist spoke ill of Murtha, and that is not true. It is not clear if you intended otherwise.
