Obama open to newspaper bailout bill

This is truly a scary proposition.  It is bad enough that the MSM is already in the tank for the Obama administration, but to have the Federal Government bail out the newspaper industry is a really really bad  idea.   What kind of hoops are they going to have to do to get money from the Federal Government.  We do not need Pravda here in the USA. We already have the NY Slimes, and do not need them under the thumb of the Federal Government for their turn at the trough.

Obama open to newspaper bailout bill

The president said he is “happy to look at” bills before Congress that would give struggling news organizations tax breaks if they were to restructure as nonprofit businesses.

“I haven’t seen detailed proposals yet, but I’ll be happy to look at them,” Obama told the editors of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Toledo Blade in an interview.— The Hill

Conservatives need to say NO to bailing out newspapers

Because then the MSM will come with hat in hand.
Plus media conglomerates might own newspapers, TV stations and radio stations. Who knows if the newspaper that gets bailed out is helping it’s sister TV station stay in business?

Business should be about business and not politics.

Have we not learned anything from the GM boondoggle and
government meddling?

September Auto Sales Go Clunk

Edmunds.com reports that “September’s light-vehicle sales rate will fall to 8.8 million units . . . the lowest rate in nearly 28 years, tying the worst demand on record. After the cash-for-clunkers program boosted August sales to their first year-over-year increase since October 2007, demand has plunged. In at least the last 33 years, the U.S. seasonally adjusted annual rate has only dropped as low as 8.8 million units once — in December 1981 — with records stretching back to January 1976.”

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

This isn't scary at all...Obama should pay those newspapers...

for all the contributions they made to him. I am just a tad miffed that it will be paid with my tax dollars.

Not as bad as you think

The bills under consideration (at least the ones I’ve seen) don’t offer government aid. Instead, they simply allow newspapers to convert to nonprofit status, just like National Review, The Nation, Weekly Standard, Health Care News, or any number of other publications that are put out by nonprofit entities.

Not that this is a good idea either – the problem with most newspapers today is that they’re not sure what to do with all their profits. But it’s not about government taking over the press either.
