How crazy is it to cry over the loss of someone you’ve never met in person? Well, call me crazy.

Not only have we lost a good friend, but a champion for what is right.

My prayers go out to his family and friends.

It will be put up here that this was done in memory of David Hinz…..I am so very sad at this news I am stunned and wished I had said something to him more recently but didn’t because of wasted time on stupid things…damn….

David is going to be missed terribly.

I’d say more, but words fail me.

Brooks was calling me a moron–and not in the Ace Of Spades way– and David jumped in and snarked at Brooks. He was a champion for the truth in whatever form it took and he will be so very much missed.

I wondered today in an idle moment if we would know when RedStaters passed on, if their family or friends or other commenters would know to post the information. And now I guess I have the answer all too soon.

Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Next time we see The One’s teleprompter malfunction, or Nancy Pelosi’s face contort in some strange way, or a Democrat mysteriously vote our way, we’ll know that David is hard at work for the cause!

Yes, let’s redouble our efforts and kick some Dem butt “Hinz-style”!

I’m sorry I never got around to taking the old blue Chevelle by TMR much when I got the wheels back on. Your site was a carport in a storm last year during the upgrade here. I will miss you, and I promise, Steve, I will be visiting TMR more often now.

I didn’t *know* David but in nearly four years reading here he was a familiar sight. May he be with God now, keeping an eye on us all.

Along with Mark Kilmer earlier this year….it’s hard to lose friends, even those you know only through their writing.

I’ll get a little choked up.

A good man, a good conservative, and a great internet debater.

It was a privilege to know Dave during the past three years. I wish it were longer, but am grateful that it happened.

Dave was a great writer/editor on The Hinzsight Report, The Minority Report and most recently 73Wire. He was a joy on the Aftermath and Italian Tomatoes radio shows. So his presence will remain on the internet for as long as we are all still around.

May he rest in peace, and may the Lord’s Perpetual Light shine upon him.

This is very sad, it certainly shows we never know, each day is precious. Prayers for the family & friends who knew him well – he has a great legacy of fighting for freedom.

I’ve been here at RS for a very long time…just after she launched in fact. David wasn’t far behind me, and we inter-acted a great deal in the early days. At one point I decided to retire from RS and go out on my own…around the same time he launched the Hinzsight Report and Foley launched TMR. Gordon Taylor was a prominent name in this transition for a lot of us-Dave went “newspaper” and Steve went blog/community (Gordo was in the thick of it for all of us at the time), and we all kinda felt we could misbehave in our new haunts under less scrutiny than were we to do so at the RS Mother Ship…and, boy howdy, did we ever.

David was a man of integrity and a man of (sometimes) painful honesty-if you were a conservative…he was listening and he was engaged…if you weren’t, he was not-so-patiently waiting for that moment you were gonna raise your RINO skirt JUST enough for him to lower the boom on you. And, as Janis has brought to light, he was always the chivalrous protector of our collective dignities.

We never met in person, as is the case with many of us here, but he was the kind of man I would have awaited with great anticipation of that first in-person cigar and 2-fingered scotch whether HE drank or not…he was just that easy to get along with “on-line” and that amenable to the respectful exchange of Conservative-minded ideas.

My heart goes out to his family tonight…his memory lives on with us, but they have much to endure in the weeks and months ahead. I pray God will ease their pain in the time ahead.

I agree with trelaina and others in this thread… David Hinz is with Kilmer tonight, and he leaves behind a great number of people that respected and admired him and will deeply miss what he brought to the discussion.

What he did in life will….in fact..echo in eternity.

I only talked to him once after he was finally banned from Red State and he was as engaging as ever. I learned a lot from him here and at TMR and I will always be thankfull for his quick willingness to help with anything you asked of him when it comes to blogging.

In an age where it’s unfashionable to be a Square because of what other people have made that connote, Dave was an honest man who didn’t fear telling the truth — not just the truth as he saw it, but the truth as it was.

We need a lot more Squares in this country. We’ve got too many people whose corners have been rounded off and who don’t know what it means. Dave wasn’t afraid to walk that walk, and when we lose people like him, we need to think about what we will do to replace him.

Dave, I have been here at Red State for a few years now. You were one of the first I got to know. I enjoyed our exchanges both here and on Twitter. You will be missed more than you may possibly know. I pray for your family for the difficult time they will have in your passing. I know God has you in His care now.
