There should not be an intermediary. Israel should not quit until Hamas is willing to come to them and beg them to stop.

The only thing Egypt and the other Arab states seem willing to do now is send a few Red Crescent ambulances in when the bullets stop flying. It’s been said that Hamas isn’t very popular in Egypt*, but I’ve also heard that the Arabs learned their lessons in that last war between Egypt and Israel (1973, Yom Kippur?).
(*This is Iran’s puppy, right? If the antagonism between Sunnis and Shiites is still pretty strong, I could image that being part of the reason. Besides the fact that most people still remember when Israeli tanks nearly crossed the Suez Canal and held Sinai for 10 years or so.)
