It simply isn’t being heard. It won’t be heard until the ongoing narrative changes. What McCain needs right now is a lucky break. Something external has to happen that stops the current storyline. The problem for him is, I don’t think he can create it himself.

McCain certainly had a knack for changing the topic (celebrity ad, Palin, campaign suspension) but those kinds of “game changers” are used up now.

His best bet is to calm the heck down, make steady policy arguments, attack Obama but let the 527s do the heavy lifting, and be ready to capitalize on any argument changers that plop in his lap.

It’s a position of weakness he finds himself in, but that’s what it is.
