The Party of Not Just No

It is sometimes said that the Republican Party is the Party of No.

That is to be avoided.  We should instead be the Party of Not Just No, But (Mabel, Grab My Pitchfork) No.

There are many problems in our world today, and many more problems on our sister planet, Washington, PC.

On Washington, PC, they look into our world from a pressurized cabin at 30,000 feet, or gain similar insight through a video screen between commercials.  With incomplete information the political class then talk among themselves, competing for attention, favor, and office on the basis of who can dream up the most effective way to buy our votes with our own money, or with that of our children.  They promise to help us with our problems if we will just give them more power, money, and adulation.

Does that describe everyone on Washington, PC?  I hope not.  Are there any left who will stand firm for the American values of small government, low taxes, and Constitutionally limited power?  I hope so.

Is there no one who will remind us that we are adults, and more, we are Americans, and by that virtue we do not need any help?

Many people are fed up with the Washington, PC mindset.  They have rejected the big government path instinctively, but need solid reasoning to back up their gut reaction.   The Republican Party should be the place they find it, or they will turn elsewhere, or perhaps worse, their passion will dissolve into apathy.

Because there are many among us who know in our hearts that it is wrong for the government to hand out money, but we do not refuse it when it is handed to us.  And on this slippery slope we are sliding into ruin.

But it is so tempting to take what is apparently the easy way out, both for the people and for politicians.  It is so easy to compromise our ideals, even though we know that in the long run it spells disaster, because it solves some short term goal.

To the politicians, I can only ask you to look at the results.  Which house of Congress do Republicans control?  Which branch of the government? With which Federal agency has blending in and going along allowed us greater influence?

There must first be a clear difference between the parties.  So many people refuse to get involved in the political process, even to vote, because they can find no difference.  Like all Americans, these people largely share Republican values, but don’t realize it because Republicans have chosen to blend in rather than stand apart.  That lack of obvious distinction is a bigger problem right now than showing we can get along with Democrats.

Yet people don’t like partisanship for its own sake.  I think this dislike is of lower importance to people than their disdain for sameness.  Part of what they mean when they say there is no difference between the parties is that they see both as pointing fingers in partisan opposition, not standing for anything except not liking the other side.

If we were but to stand for something, regardless of what the Democrats say, both objections would disappear.

Obama and his fellow marxists on Washington need to be opposed in every single thing they want to do.  We must oppose them not because they are the other side, as we naturally do.  We must know why we oppose everything they want to do, and give those reasons at every opportunity. In the end we will oppose them just as much, because everything they want to do will be harmful to our country.  We must oppose their ideas, and not their party.

What I don’t think we need to do is offer our own (government) solutions as part of showing the difference between the parties.  That kind of thing opens us to the charge of partisanship, because it often takes study to see the subtle philosophical differences between competing government solutions.  Instead, we should oppose the stupidity of Barack Obama and his fellow marxists on planet Washington.  We must say that people are able to solve their own problems, if government will only stand aside.

Freedom sells itself.  We just need to put it on display.

But we will always be asked for solutions, asked to solve people’s problems, until such a day as the people return to their senses and realize that government is the source of problems, not fixes.  So our solution to every problem should be to:

  • Ask if it’s really a problem, and not assume that it is.
  • Ask if the problem was caused or made worse by previous government intervention. Hint: it was.

Our general answer, then, will be to look first to repeal the law or dismantle the government agency that caused the problem in the first place (though probably it was a team effort). In short, we should ask how we can set people free to solve the problem.

In a few hundred years, after we have repealed a tiny portion of the worst laws, we may then need to show how the proposed marxist fix will destroy something good.

Above all: we must attack directly, forcefully, and without hesitation the notion that the government should give things to people, and must never propose that it do so ever again.

No more bailouts.  No more giveaways, buying votes with the fig leaf of compassion.  No government health insurance, no welfare checks for farmers.  No arguing for defense projects because they mean jobs.  None of it.

Do we believe in small government, low taxes, and the confines of the Constitution, or do we not?  If we do, we had better start acting like it.

If not, be prepared to remain an ever-shrinking minority party.  Then get ready for the pitchforks.

On election day, I want a choice, not an echo. NT

Great sentiment, David.

That is exactly why we’ve had the losses we have had in the last two election cycles. Our side keeps trying to be like the other, doing the same thing the other side touts and then we wonder why we are not winning.

It really is simple, if one believes in and desires the ideas and plans of the Leftists/Socialists then you vote for the Dems. It is obvious they’re doing a pretty good job of convincing the people to depend on government vs themselves. Unless we can show people the alternative and why, it will be too late. It certainly will take many years to undue the damage, just look at Western Europe.

"A Choice Not an Echo" didn't work for Barry Goldwater,

Achance (Diary) Saturday, October 17th at 12:11PM EST (link)

and it is going to be even harder to make it work in today’s world of an electorate that has achieved an almost medieval level of ignorance and superstitition. The young, the dependent, e.g., Blacks, single and never-married women, most Hispanics, most public employees, etc. don’t want choices of the sort we talk about here. They want a comfortable, as they define comfortable, life where they are provided for with little or no effort on their part. The liberty we talk about here, is meaningless to them because they don’t use that sort of liberty. For the young, being able to act stupid without a parental threat is liberty. For the single and never married women, it is a life where they and their kid(s), if any, can live without a man in that life for any purpose other than repair work and occassional sex. For the Blacks, well everybody knows that Massa’s suppose to provide new shoes. And despite all the talk about our hard-working Hispanic friends, and there are many, there are also many who came to the US for the free ride. Public employees in the main simply want more money for as little work as possible and they look to Democrats for that. When Republicans run on “smaller government,” they’re telling public employees that they’re going to work harder or maybe even lose their job. Who do you think they’ll vote for? Half the Country pays NO income tax, yet they bitch about taxes when all they pay is FICA and UI and many get an unearned bonus in the form of the EITC.

I simply do not see a conservative message getting anyone elected at the National level. We need to hold our Red States and conquer the Purple States. We need to govern them effectively and efficiently. We need to stamp out the Democrat fronts in our states. While doing that, we in the Red States need to start using our tax and environmental advantages to lure businesses and jobs away from the Blue States. Yes, an economic civil war is exactly what I’m advocating. We in the Red States have most of the resources; the Blue States produce almost nothing any more; they’re overhead mostly. Resources and more economically attractive manufacturing should be used to quite litterally starve the Blue States into submission. And if during that process of starvation, the Blue States experience a little internal violence, well, they deserve it, and the disruption will cause even more businesses and productive people to leave them. When they surrender, we can talk to them about the terms of readmission and the process or reconstruction. Those of us who grew up in The South have some ideas about how to do it.

That is a powerful and outstanding statement, Art.

penguin2 (Diary) Saturday, October 17th at 12:27PM EST (link)

It makes sense to me and maybe we are beginning to work our way toward those ends. Certainly a logical blueprint. I would add that the Blue States produce one thing; a dependent citizenry, looking and living on the public dole. As you said, those states are just overhead in the big picture, draining the resources of others if they can get away with it. Presently, that is exactly what they are doing, using Federal tax dollars to keep their wheels grinding along.

You need immigration controls to make this work, Art

civil truth (Diary) Saturday, October 17th at 12:29PM EST (link)

Otherwise, too many of the blue state electorate will come to the red states and vote in the governments that created the system that sent the blue states down the tubes in the first place. Gresham’s Law at work in politics.

It’s like the problem that Europe in particular is facing with Muslim immigrants who come for the economic benefits (because their countries have failed economies) but also maintain exclusionary communities while promoting the cultural/religious values that is largely responsible for the problems they escaped from.

Whereas a certain percentage of Muslim immigrants do integrate themselves into their adopted country, so you can’t just do a blanket exclusion without violating liberal values (“liberal” in the classic sense, not the modern) and thereby undercut your national raison d’etre.

So how would you sort out the good apples from the bad apples among the immigrants to the red states?

It would be great historical payback to see this second “Civil War” followed by a Second Reconstruction.

Unfortunately, given the current trajectory of our foreign policy, I’d expect a foreign missile attack and/or invasion before we have the chance to reach your economic civil war scenario. And that’s going to mean high body counts and unprecidented economic disaster and political chaos across the whole country, red and blue. And what will result in the wake of that – the ovewhelming odds are that it won’t end up well for the American experiment.

The greatest evil…is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried, and minuted) in clean, carpeted, warmed, and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voice. Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the offices of a thoroughly nasty business concern. -C.S. Lewis

civil truth, how about requiring that immigrants to red states

janis (Diary) Saturday, October 17th at 12:38PM EST (link)

have a job—in something besides government– and that they have the ability to pay for a place to live, health care, and that someone in the state sponsors them before they can move in. It’s already what some other countries do, and I see no reason why it wouldn’t work for our purposes. And in order not to tempt more to move in under the radar, we in the red states need to start swearing off the “freebies” from the gov. that are offered now.

That alone would cut down on the ones wanting to move here from failing blue states.

Unconstitutional to limit travel between states.

You can impose draconian regulation on participating in welfare programs and such unless you have your own welfare population that you have to keep sullen but not mutinous.

Yes, try to control the welfare programs and re-work them

unless the Welfare-loving Democrats start running the shop. We here in Texas are close to that with slim margins in the House and Senate. Welfare,SCHIP and other things are used just by the Welfare-Dems for purposes of wasting money. Unions might seem easy to control down here if it weren’t for the welfare dems that give them cover.

janis (Diary) Saturday, October 17th at 12:54PM EST (link)

So we’ll be just falling in line with our present gov. Seriously, Art, I know what you’re saying and I agree that we can’t impose stuff that’s unconstitutional. But we sure need to be thinking of what we really can do in concrete terms to accomplish what you mentioned. As to having a welfare population, Obama and Co. are achieving that quite easily here in Tennessee with the closing of the Saturn plant in Spring Hill. That will add another 13,000 to the unemployment lines. And GM refused to sell the plant to any other manufacturer.

That plant was upgraded with something like a billion dollars in new tech just in the past couple of years. And there it will sit, rusting away for no good reason. Other than the fact that it’s in a red state.

Janis, there are 535 people in DC who are sworn to support and defend the Constitution...

nessa (Diary) Saturday, October 17th at 1:27PM EST (link)

…and each and every one of them has an opportunity to do just that long before the SCOTUS even enters the picture.

They are the ones who are supposed to be deciding the constitutionality of legislation, the SCOTUS is the last ditch effort. Too many in Congress, and too many of the citizens, believe the SCOTUS has the responsibility to decide. The SCOTUS does everything in its power to make someone else decide before they have to!

The libs have found a loophole, they pass any unconstitutional crap they can disregarding complaints about unconstitutionality and depending on SCOTUS to make the final decision, knowing full well it will take years for the issue to get to SCOTUS. By then the damage has been done.

they bend over backwards to give refugees welfare

mom2oneson (Diary) Saturday, October 17th at 1:19PM EST (link)

It’s horrible, they give them food stamps, cash assistance, housing, and they bend over backwards literally making it very easy for them to get welfare, it’s easier for them than it is a native born citizen, and there are a lot of non profits helping them get it too. I don’t know how it works with sponsorship with refugees though. I know with other types of immigrants they have to have a sponser that earns a certain amount over the poverty line and signs to say they wil lbe responsible for so many years. That is one issue with the anchor babies that nobody ever brings up. They say when the child is 18 they could petition them anyway but that isn’t 100% true, they would have to be earning a certain amount above the poverty line or have someone sign who is to sponsor them. Unles they are in the military and getting deployment pay not too many 18 year olds earn that much to sponsor a whole family. With students and relative petitions someone with income over the poverty line has to sign. I don’t kow how it works with lottery visas.

Californication is hard to control.

Achance (Diary) Saturday, October 17th at 12:40PM EST (link)

I define that as people who have done well in CA, leave to escape the taxes, crime, and hassle, and start immediately to rebuild the CA they left in WY or CO, or even AK, we have them too. But really, you have to have a dependent class for much of the Californication to take hold. Yeah, you’ll have to fight them over stupid environmental regs and such, but if you don’t have a large welfare class to begin with, there really isn’t much constituency for do-gooder welfare programs. Though, there is a real issue with this in The South.

As to the other undesirable elements a lousy welfare system and draconian regulation of UI and Workers’ Comp will work pretty well. Even though Alaska has a pretty lucrative welfare scheme, when we had almost a mass migration of “Black and Whites” in the ’70s and early ’80s, they almost entirely either assimilated into the workforce or left during their first winter. Might be different in a warm place though.

That is the only way they can get and maintain power. In Jeannie’s diary yesterday, I said: “It is also why it is so hard to walk back government programs that give people stuff. They lose their survival skills and motivation.” I equated Obama’s plan of giving seniors $250.00 as “ringing Pavlov’s bell once again.”

Frankly, I’m tired of the PC stuff, the election of 2008 said we are post racial. They are the ones desperately trying to use the race card. The Dems need it to maintain control over their Black constituency. No longer should we allow PC to keep us from speaking the truth about enslavement. People need to wake up and realize the goal of the Dems is to get all groups in this country dependent on the government. That is enslavement, only it is not a geographical type. We are desperately fighting to keep the chains from binding us as a nation, as well.
