‘We are not governing here today, we are greasing the skids’

So said Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) during today’s Budget Committee farce wherein the “shell” bill was passed. It now heads over to be marked up and can include whatever they want, including public option, and can be loaded with earmarks to secure wavering or undecided votes. Like I said last night, everything is now on the table. Everything.

Ryan then went on to say the following during Budget Committee today: “This abuse of the process, this abuse of the constitution…are not worthy of your support.” Among other things. The full eight minutes is well worth watching:

Ryan also wrote an Op-Ed piece in the Washington Post today and he reiterated what we’ve pointed out at RedState here and here:

If this debate had actually been about health care, we could have worked together to get a grip on costs, make quality care more accessible, address exclusions for preexisting conditions and realign the incentives of insurance companies with those of patients and doctors. Yet this process — including its embarrassing conclusion — demonstrates that the debate has never been about health-care policy but, instead, paternalistic ideology.

Should the Democrats’ health-care train wreck make it to the president’s desk, it will be a pyrrhic victory, and its devastating consequences will take their toll on our health-care system, our budget and our economy.

A Pyrrhic victory, perhaps. But, we cannot let it become an actual one. Our government is outright smugly dismissing us; ignoring the will of the people and, in fact, ignoring The Constitution. Rep. Paul Ryan knows that this is our moment and we must seize it. We, The People must not be willing to return to silence and apathy. We cannot lose sight of how high the stakes are. We cannot become dejected and give up. This isn’t about health care reform. It’s about Liberty and our very way of life. If it passes, we continue the fight to get it repealed as swiftly as possible before the insidious nature of socialized medicine can take root.

Freedom isn’t a political talking point, it isn’t even political at all. It is simply a way of being, despite the best attempts by others, in this case our own government, to take it away. We must stand firm with Rep. Ryan and all who seek to keep us free. Stay angry and use the anger to keep fighting; we can’t risk doing otherwise.

“Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. It is a weapon our adversaries in today’s world do not have.”
– Ronald Reagan

Premiere Obama - Tear Up This Bill

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

Fantastic speech!

I checked out a few of his other Youtube videos. I haven’t done my research and I don’t know of his conservative credentials, but if they line up – this is really a guy I could get behind in 2012.

Who is the guy sitting behind Paul Ryan?

The one with the band-aid on his head who keeps

arguing with himself inside his head?? I think he just escaped from the mental ward.

I think he's Rahmbo's dancing partner.

Not sure of his identity, but seldom have I seen a more repulsive creature, not counting Axelrod, of course.

Why does everyone continue

DerKrieger (Diary) Monday, March 15th at 8:27PM EST (link)

…to ignore all that is happening at the state level to thwart the plans of the statists? Post after post I read comments from people lamenting our future should this thing pass never once giving consideration to fighting this one state at a time. Thirty-eight states, a huge majority, have passed or will soon pass legislation nullifying Obamacare. There will be a Constitutional challenge and the states will prevail. The federal government cannot usurp the power of the states if the states refuse to let them. The states have the 10th Amendment on their side and they will use it.

Virginia says No to Obamacare – http://www.freedomworks.org/blog/josheboch/health-care-freedom-act-passes-va-senate-committee

Socialism is Slavery.

Federalism is Freedom!

“In questions of power, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.” – Thomas Jefferson

“I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents.” – James Madison

Whenever the legislators endeavor to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people, who are thereupon absolved from any further obedience.” — John Locke, 1690

Perhaps.....

lunarmanathome (Diary) Monday, March 15th at 8:46PM EST (link)

you might read a bit more on the subject. Virginia is a case in point. The states AG fully expects to lose the court battle on legislation they have passed on the grounds you state.

This whole thing sickens me as it is such naked and corrupt lust for power. I do my daily phone calls, my rep is safely “No”, and my 2 Senators are nearly as daft and left as Bernie Sanders (Murray/Cantwell).

I think it’s going to take more than just a state asserting it’s rights..

Why does he expect to lose?

Alabama has a governor's race this year

marshmom (Diary) Monday, March 15th at 8:47PM EST (link)

and the our primary is in June. All of the Republicans in the race are running on the idea that they will not allow Alabama to be involved in Obamacare. They know how the people of our state feel about that garbage. WE DON’T WANT IT!!!!!

Rock

katnandu Monday, March 15th at 9:35PM EST (link)

This man is single handedly making the case against healthcare. I couldn’t be more proud or in awe of the work he has partaken to understand and debate the substance of this monstrosity! My question is…Where the hell are the other Congressmen on the Republican side? Why are they not out there, EVERYWHERE making these same arguments? There are maybe 2 or 3 others. This is our Waterloo if this passes! Do they get that? I don’t think so.

Ryan is a rock star

miconservative Monday, March 15th at 10:17PM EST (link)

We are winning the debate completely with the American people and will most likely lose in Congress. Then it is on to the election where we must campaign on Repeal the bill. I just hope the American people don’t lose their fire. The effort must be ramped up. We must continue the fight. If we get a landslide not only in Congress but also in state legislatures and Governorship we can fight on 10th Amendment grounds.

We must also keep hope alive and keep up the heat on wavering dems. I just believe in the end the weak will cave. But never stop fighting.

Ryan / Pence 2012

Who’s with me?

I love that combination...

Bill S (Diary) Tuesday, March 16th at 12:05AM EST (link)

but a) there are a ton of folks here that do not believe a congressman (let alone two of them) would make a good POTUS candidate, and b) both have stated they aren’t interested in 2012 runs.

But it’s a dream team, as far as I personally am concerned.

Ryan is fantastic

peg_c (Diary) Tuesday, March 16th at 6:55AM EST (link)

He came seemingly from nowhere and landed on the national stage during the HC Summit a few weeks ago. He is definitely wonky, extremely articulate, and verbally lassoed Oblabla so tightly all Oblabla could do was look menacing and give Ryan that famous finger, followed by utterly incoherent mumbling.

Ryan was outstanding on Mark Levin’s show last Thursday (the 11th). We need many more like him in Congress. That is our quest!

Government cannot be the solution when government is the problem.
