(Updated) 4 Killed, at Least 9 Injured, Suspect in Custody, Following Georgia High School Shooting

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is now reporting that four people are dead, nine more have been taken to hospitals with injuries, and that the suspect is in custody and alive:

Two people are dead, and at least four more have been injured following a shooting at a Georgia high school Wednesday morning. The shooting took place at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, at around 10:30 a.m:

Law enforcement had secured the scene and students were being released by around 11:30 a.m., a spokesperson for the Barrow County School District told The Post.

There were dozens of police vehicles from multiple agencies on the lawns outside the high school as officers organized students in the athletic field area, FOX5 reported.

At least two people were seen being loaded into medical helicopters and evacuated, FOX5 said.

Per reports, a suspect is in custody. 

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp issued the following statement on X:

I have directed all available state resources to respond to the incident at Apalachee High School and urge all Georgians to join my family in praying for the safety of those in our classrooms, both in Barrow County and across the state. 

We will continue to work with local, state, and federal partners as we gather information and further respond to this situation. 

The FBI has also been alerted to the situation: 

In a statement, the FBI’s Atlanta office said: “FBI Atlanta is aware of the current situation at Apalachee High School in Barrow County. Our agents are on scene coordinating with and supporting local law enforcement.”
