Word on The Hill is not only do Senate Republicans have the votes to pass their sweeping tax reform bill, but they may hold the vote tonight, no doubt opening the door to dire warnings and existential angst from Democrats.

After Senators Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Steve Daines of Montana agreed to support the bill, two holdouts remained: Senator Jeff Flake of  Arizona and Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee. They said they could not support the bill over concerns that it would add to the deficit. Some, like Erick Erickson, saw their reticence as political rather than principled.

This is a really dangerous game Flake and Corker are playing. They claim to support the plan, but they have some concerns. They’d be more believable about their concerns if they’d ever really stuck to their convictions on those concerns in the past. Their willingness to obstruct the tax reform package will just make the GOP primaries in their home states even nastier and increase the odds of the Democrats taking back the Senate. But it seems pretty clear they do not care.

As of Friday afternoon, Flake had changed his mind, ostensibly after receiving an agreement to “work on a legislative fix for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.”

As for Democrats, their leadership — including Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont — are partnering with progressive groups such as MoveOn.org and embarking on a tour of regions such as Kentucky and Pennsylvania to rally voters there against what they describe as a “tax scam.”

President Donald Trump, however, believes he knows why Democrats are really opposed to the bill:
