Cain’s campaign is over ! He takes on Newt, 1 on1; Saturday.

Cain has agreed to a one on one debate with newt saturday for 90 minutes, carrid by c-span. Cain is going to be done for with the soundbytes that come from that.

Now, I like Cain personally, but he doesnt have the background on how DC works, hasn’t thought thru the US’s domestic and international issues or knows what will work best.

If he’s the nominee, obama is going to dispatch him in the first debate just by obama reading his daily reports in the morning.

Newt is the best guy to know how to really reform DC and know how to handle US allies and enemies. it’s going to be great to see him show that Cain’s appeal may be a mile wide, but his analysis is about an inch deep.

I will be looking so forward to Newt showing why he’s the man for the job and Cain is really better suited to be a governor, not president of the United States.

How about a live blog Red State ?

I can smoke cigars, watch Cain get schooled and type at the same time.

Agreed.

Cain is not capable of offering anything other than one-liners, talking points, and shallow, trite statements. Lincoln-Douglas debates are not suitable for him. Gingrich will wipe the floor with him on Saturday. And I can’t say I pity Cain.

I think that it’s the Jews’ own fault that Hezbollah/Hamas keep trying to kill them! I was thrown off of this site!

I hope it is respectful on both sides but

people get a chance to see the difference between a really great motivational speaker with conservative principles and a well informed, knowledgeable, conservative statesman with the ability to get the country back on track for real.

This is going to be a big moment for Newt...

There is a pathway there to the nomination, but I think the issue is if Newt takes down Cain or this issue with the settlement takes down Cain, who benefits?

We know they likely dont go to Romney, he has been running for President now since 2006, he is well known enough: He won the 2007 Ames Straw, he has appeared countless times on conservative talk shows, for God Sakes Sean Hannity compared his 2008 CPAC speech to Ronald Reagans back in the 1970′s. Still, he remains at 25%. Those voters arent going there.

So the question is:
1. Do they go to Newt? I can see a scenario in which Newt could build a coalition of support: He and Cain have known each other a long time, if it goes South for Cain, my guess is he throws his support behind Newt. Rick Santorum said in one of the debates, the person he agrees with most on the stage is Newt Gingrich. So thats 2!!! If Perry ever got out, which he wont because he has the money to stay, Im sure he would likely support Newt. The question is that all of those will be in until Iowa and probably New Hampshire. Can Newt defeat Cain enough and directly take his support to be the clear “anti-Mitt” candidate?

2. Do they get muddled again many back to Perry or maybe a Santorum? I just dont know.

I agree, this is Newt's "coming out" moment.

Although, it’s only on Cspan, on a Saturday afternoon and up against the Alabama-LSU game; it’s still likely going to be Newt’s best chance to present himself as the conservative/tea party candidate with the experience to really implement the conservative changes tea party and conservatives want.

I do not think Newt’s going to get enough attention in the everybody and their mother debates to stand out.

Fortunately, Newt’s got the experience to know this is his moment.

Will be interesting to see if he hits a homerun and how poorly Cain comes off against him. I like Cain, but my depth of knowledge on economics and foreign affairs is better than his is and that makes me very, very nervous if Cain will be the one debating Obama.

Eat ‘em up Houston Cougars !

Is anyone recording this debate?

It’d be nice for those who can’t make it, and it might give us more info about the candidates.

Ceterum autem censeo, Obamaecuram esse delendam.

It’s the morality, stupid.

Should be interesting. Cain has to be distracted and has had a big dent in prep time for the debate over the latest drama.

A solid performance by Gingrich will help in getting more conservatives out of the closet, who are just waiting for others to do the same. He’ll be easier to support as he is now in the top 2 or 3. Gingrich has a landslide of support in the closet. Just waiting for the right catalyst.

Another important point is Gingrich is the one candidate that can consolidate all the Republican campaign camps with the least amt of bad blood. Many candidates would name him as their alternative and that is important.

I think the focus Gingrich’s “baggage” is overdone and is more of an impediment to getting the primary nod as opposed to hurt him in a general. Is the left gonna hammer him on sitting on a couch with Pelosi? They’ll go after his personal life and IMHO will backfire as he is able to deliver a solid refreshing coherent message that gives confidence to voters.

Obama=Golfer in Chief, Leading from, behind, the Back Nine.
Leaders don’t create movements. Movements create leaders. Get involved. Your future depends on it.
Govt “invests” YOUR tax money for POLITICAL return rather than economic return.

Good point about consolidation

I think that he has pretty good relationships with each of the candidates that if and when they drop out, my guess is that they would throw their support to Newt.

Herman Cain – they are both from Georgia, they get along well and are friends. And while Newt hasnt been a ringing endorser of 999, he didnt call it 666 and applauded Cain for having a bold plan and framing the discussion.

Rick Santorum – served with Newt and he mentioned that he agrees most with Newt on the debate stage.

Rick Perry – again no direct barbs back and forth like Mitt – Perry or now maybe Perry-Cain, Newt wrote the forward of Perry’s book, etc.

Bachman? Paul? Not sure.
