It sure looks like this pipeline will giver Russian an incentive to take over Georgia, or at least set up a puppet regime there (and/or possibly do the same in Azerbaijan, which will choke off the northern route.

As for the central route/Iran, Russia has been busily coordinating oil policy with Iran, so I'm sure that even if Iran becomes an exporter again, they will not undercut Russia's gas control over Europe.

This leaves the Iraqi route - and that is an invitation for Iran to step in and gain at least a veto over Iraq's trade.

But at least, this pipeline creates a possible alternative to Russia - the question is whether the West (Europe and the U.S.) will have the <em>cojones</em> to stand up against Russia - or will Iraq gas be up for <s>negotiation</s> <s>bargaining chip</s> give away by the U.S. with Iran.

I hated that the Russians almost killed people with their games on gas. I would hate the day we here were freezing to death because of our reliance on foreign oil. I look forward to the day we are energy independent though I know it won't happen until we get a Conservative into office.
