“I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.”
– - Thomas Jefferson, to Archibald Stuart, 1791
It is one that to know that they have done it for us, but another to have seen them die so that we might live.
papalee Monday, May 25th at 10:42AM EST (link)And not simply live, but, and much more importantly, live as free men. For the greatest part of our history, the threat to our freedom, to our constitutional liberties has always come from without. Now it comes from within, from our fellow citizens who believe that we are not smart enough to take care of ourselves, to make our own decisions, take our own risks. They are now attempting to see that once and for all time in the future we surrender those choices and decisions to them. Unfortunately the “them” we must fear is not merely the president and his appointees, the men and women we foolishly elected to congress, but faceless and unknown bureaucrats whom we shall never know but into whose hands we may have already surrendered the power of life and death over ourselves.
What would, what will the reaction of those who freely, even willfully gave their lives and futures so that we and all of our future generations might have just that, a future be when they realize that this country has blindly surrendered itself and its future to those far worse than we defeated in all of our foreign wars put together, i.e., ourselves. What would they think? And should and must we do be fore we destroy ourselves, our children and theirs, the very future of freedom and ordered liberty?
Who will tell us but ourselves.
All Gave some & SOME GAVE ALL !!!!

Flew Back from Chicago out of Midway Airport...
furious (Diary) Monday, May 25th at 11:29AM EST (link)…yesterday. Neat multimedia exhibit in the main concourse about the battle, including an actual SBD Dauntless hanging from the ceiling. It was the Dauntless squadrons from the Einterprise and Yorktown that sank the four Japanese carriers and turned the tide of the Pacific War.
But not before the torpedo bombers went in low-and-slow and drew the A/A fire and most of the air cover, and were slaughtered as a result — lost were all fifteen Devastators from Hornet’s VT-8 (only one survivor for the squadron’s forty-five man complement), and five of six Avengers and two of four Marauders land-based on Midway.
God rest them and all our fallen fighting men and women.
One hopes the current generation of Americans merit such sacrifice. Fools and knaves in the media and political establishments aside, the current Greatest Generation in uniform and in Harm’s Way on all our behalves tells me that we are. It’s on us, however, to ensure that the fools and knaves don’t squander that legacy.

furious, it is indeed fortunate that the men and women who serve
mbecker908 (Diary) Monday, May 25th at 12:42PM EST (link)use “Duty, Honor, Country” as a standard for their service.
If they used the “merit” of their fellow citizens as a standard we’d be speaking either Vietnamese or Arabic.
God Bless America, God Bless our Soldiers, all. And please God HELP Obama.

They say Republicans are for the rich, Democrats are for the poor.
If they need more voters,
then they have to make more of who they are for.
We are there in the various Tea Party groups, leaderless, but not rudderless.
We steer always toward the Constitutional principles this nation was founded upon.

Memorial Day
rick554 Monday, May 25th at 12:06PM EST (link)A couple years ago , I got the oppourtunity to fly on the “Lucky Lady”, a B17 G that flys out of Michigan. While these aircraft look pretty massive on the ground, at altitude, you realize how small and fragile the planes really are. With almost no armor , these Airplanes and their Men flew through flack that my old Uncles said you could almost walk on. How they survived can only be attributed to GOD and Boeing. If you ever see one of the old guys that brought death to Nazis and the Japanese in these warplanes, shake their hands and know that you are in the company of HEROs.
God bless our TROOPS

"Today is Memorial Day." Well, no, not really.
BAW Monday, May 25th at 8:47PM EST (link)Actually, today, the last Monday in May is just the designated holiday for Federal Employees (to observe Memorial Day) as established back in 1968.
I’m pretty sure Memorial Day is still May 30th.
I don’t think I’d pick that nit if this three day weekend represented a true celebration of Memorial Day. But it seemed, to me, that for most people it was a good weekend for shopping.
This One would be Nice If...
