This just popped up over at NRO (no direct link, so you may have to scroll down), and it’s too good not to share:
First exit poll of actual American votes from Israel shows big McCain win
Within the last hour, the first exit poll of 817 Americans in Israel, who attended U.S. election voting events in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv on Tuesday evening to vote by absentee ballot, has been released.
A startling 76 percent of those polled said that they had voted for John McCain. This contrasts sharply with pre-election polls of American Jews in the U.S., which indicate a strong preference for Obama.
The exit poll findings of American voters in Israel are all the more surprising because less than one in four were registered Republicans, and 46% of registered Democrats living in Israel said they had crossed party lines to vote McCain. By contrast, the Republican crossover to Obama was minimal – just 2%.
This could be more significant than just the raw numbers would indicate. Jewish Americans have been a solidly and reliably leftist voting block for decades – even as the domestic left became increasingly anti-Israel. This time, the donks may have finally gone too far on this count and worn out this constituency….

How does it compare with 2004?

sorry, that means nothing
kyle8 (Diary) Thursday, October 30th at 9:51AM EST (link)I would think that Americans currently living in Israel would be overwhelmingly against someone who has had nice things to say about the PLO. At least I would hope so.

Maybe, Maybe Not
Skanderbeg (Diary) Thursday, October 30th at 10:11AM EST (link)Maybe, maybe not.
You’d be surprised how large, particularly given the circumstances, Israel’s own “surrender lobby” is.
But agree with the comment above that a comparison with 2004 results would instructive.
Any Jew who would vote for Obama
Tbone (Diary) Thursday, October 30th at 10:34AM EST (link)deserves to see Israel thrown under the bus.
I actually think that an Obama win would virtually assure an airstike against Iran’s nuclear facilities because the Israelis can not even begin to expect that Obama as President would not fold to continued Iranian weapons development.
Needless to say, such a strike opens a Pandora’s Box of possibilities. The best part of that is that the Obama lovin’ Europeans would bear the brunt of the repercussions.
Envisioning when all that is Left is the Right.
Encouraging but....
madlaw1071 Thursday, October 30th at 10:40AM EST (link)Here in Palm Beach Co., Florida there are probably as many Jews as in all of Israel and I can assure you the vast majority will vote for BHO. Somehow I survived it but most Jews are born with a gene that prevents them from voting Repub. Granted, however, that even a pick up of a few % for McPalin could make a huge difference.
40,000 American Jews in Israel
Swamp_Yankee (Diary) Thursday, October 30th at 11:21AM EST (link)American Jews in Israel. Not a huge amount, especially considering that many of them are probably votin in New York. Jews in Florida is the real marker. Is there a substanital Jewish population around Phillie.
This is HUGE news!!! Even large percentages of Israelis are VERY LIBERAL

Small Shifts = Large Outcomes
Skanderbeg (Diary) Thursday, October 30th at 11:45AM EST (link)That’s indeed the emerging scenario – small shifts in this matter will lead to large changes in outcomes.
I wouldn’t expect a huge change among Jewish-American voters, but even a small shift will have seismic consequences. And even though they’re in Israel, for a full one-quarter of self-identified Democrats to cross over to vote for John McCain is pretty eye-popping.
Since I’m sitting in my office with a few stalled minutes as I wait for a journalist to call me for an interview (not about politics – about business), let me tell you an instructive story.
Several years back, in your humble correspondent’s (very blue) home state, there was a very interesting race for Lieutenant Governor. The sitting (Democratic) Lt. Governor moved up to run for the open Governor’s office, and the longest-serving Democratic state senator moved up to run for the now-open Lt. Governor’s slot. It was a three-way race between him, a virtually-unknown Republican, and a far-left candidate. Despite the presence of the far-left candidate on the ballot, the veteran Dem was very heavily favored to win and had a huge lead in the polls. Barring an “October surprise,” he seemed to be a shoe-in.
Well, funny thing happened – he went and made his own October surprise.
He was one of those annoying rich-by-trust-fund liberals who resolutely blocked school choice while sending his own three children to fancy private schools.
So in October, he goes off to some political conference and leaves the family at home. There was some occasion in the family (I forget what), so someone on his staff arranged a little surprise for him – they secretly flew his wife out to the conference and spirited her up to his hotel room for her surprise entry.
Well, you might be guessing about where this is going. They wafted her into the room, and found him with a young lady who was some sort of staffer (maybe a secretary – I forget) – and let’s just say that they weren’t playing chess or discussing medieval English literature.
To her credit (and given the behavior of the uxes Clinton and Spitzer), she stomped out in a rage and immediately filed for divorce and custody of the three children.
Despite this fiasco, this only made a slight dent in his polling numbers – as we all learned from the Clinton years, leftists are willing to forgive any personal behavioral indiscretions if that’s required to allow them to hold on to power. Going into election day, he was still projected to win in a walk.
Well, a funny thing happened on election night – the race was indeed “a walk,” but it was a walk for the unknown Republican candidate. Votes had clearly moved in droves to both the Republican and the third-party guy.
The exit polling found that the reason for this unexpected result was a change at the polling station among women. The exit pollsters noted this, and recorded a large number of comments along the lines of, “I went to the polling station with the intent of voting for him, but when I got in the booth and looked at the ballot, I just couldn’t bring myself to check the box next to his name, knowing what he had done to his wife.”
One suspects that many Jewish American voters (and others) will find themselves feeling similarly next Tuesday….
These numbers emerged BEFORE Khalidi
joeljournal (Diary) Thursday, October 30th at 12:41PM EST (link)And the Jewish American vote is still up for grabs, believe me.
There is a great deal of unease among Obama’s Jewish supporters about what is on that Khalidi tape.
The cover-up is turning out to be bad enough in itself. It reinforces what many Americans are thinking about Obama: “We don’t know the full story and we’re not being told.”
Also–there is some value to Jewish voters in being SEEN to vote for Obama but actually choosing McCain.
We have no idea what will happen in the voting booth. I would never have expected such a wide McCain margin among Americans in Israel.

WHAT (Diary) Thursday, October 30th at 1:16PM EST (link)When people say McCain won’t get the majority of the Jewish vote they don’t seem to understand McCain doesn’t need the majority, he only needs about 30% and he seems to be getting at least 30%.
Your reply makes absolutely no sense, Maggie in Indiana
ZootSuit (Diary) Thursday, October 30th at 5:32PM EST (link)Obviously, Barack Obama was not running in 2004. But comparing the returns for Bush vs. Kerry in 2004 with McCain vs. Obama now would be instructive as to how things are working out so far in this election; as even the original poster acknowledges.
My sincerest apologies, however, if you meant your reply to be a joke.

817
Magnificat (Diary) Monday, November 3rd at 4:10AM EST (link)I’m a bit confused. 76 precent of 817 votes aren’t likely to make a difference in most of the states. Is that some sort of initial figure on American expat voting in Isreal, with more result to come?
(The article sounds like as if only 817 Americans live in Isreal)

Commodore Perry (Diary) Monday, November 3rd at 11:28AM EST (link)I’ve been saying for a while that an Obama victory would assure an Israeli strike on Iran before Bush’s term expires. This would force Obama to deal with the Bush policy, whatever it is, of how to support Israel in its maneuvers. In such a scenario, Israel will not wait for Obama.
If McCain wins (PLEASE!), then Israel will hold off in an attempt to gain White House support for whatever they want to do with/to Iran.

Obama’s associations and actions up to this point.
Israel would want to strike while it still felt that
America would not let it be wiped off the map.
After Jan. 20th, 2009 Israel’s options would be
very limited.
If Israel does strike Iran, they will almost assuredly use nuclear-tipped bunker busters to ensure the destruction of key targets buried deep underground, including nuclear assets and command and control. Israel will enjoy plausible deniability as respects any use of nuclear weapons, since it can proclaim that any radiation that is released came from Iran’s nuclear reactor (already fueled by Russia) and from secret underground nuclear sites in the target.
Against a dangerous enemy in possession of significant and deadly air defenses, the Israel always launches air strikes under the dark cover of an astronomical new moon so as to give its pilots every advantage and protection.

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.
Either way, Joe Biden had it right

in regard to Jewish voters
conservativepolitico (Diary) Monday, November 3rd at 10:05PM EST (link)McCain could win IF
Jewish voters in states like FL go for him. Why should they go for a middle eastern man? American Jews are however, often heavily Democratic ( has to do with the minority status) there aren’t enough Barry Goldwater Jews)
those white rural voters in places like PA go for McCain thus flipping that state.
Mexicans/blacks/Asians will all vote overwhelmingly for Obama. Isn’t it disaspointing how it looked like in 2000-2004 that Latinos might go Conservative? Shows where they stand. The fact they might deliever entire states like NM, and NV to him shows me there are WAY too many that have way too much power and its only gonna get worse as their numbers grow and our demographics and culture continue to change as a result of open borders.
