Anyone Tell Liz Warren Yet About Marco Rubio's Native American Heritage?

Who could’ve seen this one coming?

After all the years of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) falsely claiming a Native American heritage, it turns out one of her colleagues in the Senate actually does have one:

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) discovered a link to Native American ancestors through an appearance on “Finding Your Roots,” according to the PBS show’s host.

Henry Louis Gates Jr. said in a preview clip for the show, airing Wednesday evening, that an ancestor on Rubio’s mother’s side was “pure Native American.”

Gates also explained how the particular set of Native Americans Rubio is descended from migrated through the Yucatan Peninsula, a stretch of modern-day Mexico near Cuba, as early as 4,000 B.C.

“Talk about ancestral roots in Cuba … your family on your mother’s side has been there a long, long time,” Gates says in the video.

Rubio responds that he has visited ruins in the area, including Chichén Itzá, before remarking, “Who knew I was going back home?”

He also found out more about his Spanish heritage:

The Cuban American lawmaker found out he’s not the first person in his family to become a lawyer or engage in public service. More than 200 years ago, Rubio’s third great grandfather, José de Reina y Tosta, got his law degree from Spain’s University of Granada in 1786.

Rubio’s ancestor went on to become a public prosecutor in Seville by 1793. Two centuries later, Rubio’s parents immigrated from Cuba to the U.S. in 1956, and Rubio was born in Miami in 1971.

In addition to revealing Rubio’s Native American ancestry, the show also looked at the ancestral histories of former House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) and current presidential candidate Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI).

Rubio tweeted about his experience on the show:

Meanwhile, Senator Warren is still on a bit of an apology tour, hoping to make amends with the Native American community she lied to for decades.
