Mike Castle open to endorsing Christine O’Donnell

I was reading one of the many, many articles about the Delaware GOP Senate Primary, this one from Politico, and this particular article featured an interview with Mike Castle.   The real scoop of the story was buried near the end of the article, the reporter asked Mike Castle if he would support Christine O’Donnell if she wins the Primary.  This is his answer “That’s very hypothetical, and I will answer it at some point in the future. If it were to happen, I would look at that. As you know, this has not been a very pleasant experience for anybody, and the concept of supporting one another in this circumstance is going to be difficult for anyone to reach”  thats the exact quote from Politico.  To me the first part of that statement, ‘I will answer it at some point in the future.’ suggests he realizes he’s likely about to lose.  Then he says he would ‘look at it’.  Clearly he’s open to the possibility of endorsing her, that is, after all, what ‘look at it’ means, it means he would consider it.  He basicly seems to be saying, particularly at the end of the quote, that it will be hard for him to do it, and he would like for her to reach out to him and make it easier for him to endorse her, if she wins.  We all know that the only way Christine can lose this race is if the RINOs don’t fall in line behind the nominee of the Party.  If Castle were to endorse Christine her victory in November is virtually a slam dunk.

Therefore I want to publicly encourage Christine O’Donnell herself, to personally make a phone call to Mike Castle the day after the Primary.  Presumably Mike will make the concession call the night of the vote, don’t ask for his endorsement then, congratulate him on his many years in public service and let him sleep on the results, let him have some time to get over the disappointment of the loss.  Call him personally the next day and graciously ask him if there’s anything you can do to earn his support.  He is an Establishment man, a man of the system, it would do his sense of honor good to endorse you.  If you give him an excuse to do so, he will happily do it.  In short, treat him with respect, and he will do the same for you.  Of course it goes without saying that should he win the Primary, you must do the same for him.

The time for argument, debate, all the back and forth, it’s come and it’s gone.  The time has come now for us all to get on the same page.  Castle has been sinking, O’Donnell has been surging, and neither candidate would be a ‘sure thing’ in November.  That is, unless we have unity.  If the loser endorses the winner, then it is pretty much a sure thing, the winner of the Primary wins in November.  If that doesn’t happen, then its just wide open, anybody’s guess what happens.  But if we do have Party Unity, victory is all but assured.  So please, to Christine and all her supporters, don’t spike the ball on the Star on Election Night.  Hand the ball to the referee, and shake your opponent’s hand.  And of course, if the late polling from the Tea Party and then PPP is somehow totally wrong and Castle ends up winning, it would be nice to have some kind, sympathetic words from Castle and the RINOs who love him so much, we O’Donnell fans would surely need them :) .

For me, this would swing me more towards Castle

It speaks against Ericks wildly false hypothesis that Castle would flee the Republican party and step down to hand the job to Beau Biden.

O’donnel has character flaws coming out every pore, she is an opportunist, and for my money not solidly conservative at all.

Or the Castle becoming a dem to avoid a primary challenge like Specter? If Biden is anointed D Hereditary ruler of that state, then how would that make sense.

Castle is a punk

Doc Holliday (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 6:45AM EST (link)

you get an F as a Republican from the NRA, you are a punk, it is that simple. A man who fears an armed populace is an honest man, when using the term “fears” in its right context. But Castle want’s to de ball men, he wants them to be servants on the state, a mass of flesh and bones that must be lead, taught coached and cajoled. They are servants of the state to him, they bow when he tosses crumbs to them.

If we support Castle simply to get a Republicans in office, then I can live with that. But when people talk like he is worthy, I want him to lose even more.

I don't support Castle to get a Rep. in office

I don’t care much about Republicans even if I vote for them, I support actively only good conservative candidates.

The best reasons to support Castle are:
- not having O’Donnell representing conservatives
- not having O’Donnell as a conservatism advocate
- not having O’Donnell claiming to be a conservative to a large audience

Good conservatives > non-conservative republicans > democrats > bad/fake/unreliable conservatives (from Bob Ney to Bob Barr, from CiNOs to the Frank E. Robinsons of the world).

The same NRA that endorsed Reid in NV??

tacoslayer (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 7:01PM EST (link)

C’mon….is an NRA rating really the gold standard anymore??

Castle opposed the Lilly Ledbetter pay act,
He opposed the Obama stimulus.
He voted against the pro-ACORN legislation.
He voted to eliminate Murtha Airport earmark.
He voted to cut DOH and DOT spending.
He supported an amendment banning taxpayer funded abortions.
He voted against the health-care bill.
He has made it clear he would support repeal legislation.

And most importantly…Castle can beat Coons.

It’s bigger than one seat in the Senate. It’s about committee Power. It’s about keeping O from loading SCOTUS any further.
It’s about Winning.

Cutting off your nose to spite your face and all that….
Silly.

fail

NRA did not endorse Reid

Erick said it was a "done deal"

jasonhsv Tuesday, September 14th at 8:47AM EST (link)

I’m glad I’m not the only one who remembers Erick’s allegations about Castle switching parties. He said it was a “done deal”. Not a hypothesis, not a rumor, not a “I wouldn’t be surprised if …”.

Until this is cleared up, I take everything Erick says with a huge grain of salt.

I'm very Erick-Skeptical at the moment too

He has been goign on too many rants with too many I’s in the past 8 months. It is good for him that he is getting air time on CNN, and that the site has become more popular since he got on it full time…but to me he is loose with his endorsements, is getting too sucked up in “anti-establishment” at all costs (This is especially disingenuous given his treatment of the Ron Paul people on the site).

Dan McLaughlin is not for O’Connel, she is quite obviously a losing candidate, she is a bandwagoner and an opportunist, and apparently a bit of a liar….

And If Castle says he is wishy washy in office, adn wishy washy in the primary, but R in the General, then that is at least more character than a murkowski or co have.

And I am talking like I really really cannot stand anythign I have read about O’Connel anywhere!

He also voted to impeach Bush, didn't you know?

cordpt Tuesday, September 14th at 9:08AM EST (link)

And he’s having an affair with a man. And he’s a staunch supporter of Obamacare and the stimulus, And O’Donnell won 2 counties in the 2008 elections vs. Biden. And ISI are a bunch of liberals.

Come on, nothing good comes out of having pathological liars claiming to represent conservatism. Haven’t we learnt something with all those pork-addicted, corrupted guys? Character matters. We can live with low-character liberals and centrists; the danger comes from low-character conservatives.

(I’d cut Erick some slack though, these guys are really assertive in the way they make their allegations. I fully agree with Charles K. though – endorsing O’Donnell is, at the very least, irresponsible.)

Thats all speculation

SirGladiator (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 9:11AM EST (link)

Given that so many other liberal Republicans have switched parties in the past, its understandable why there would be speculation, just like there would naturally be speculation that Castle might run as a 3rd party/write-in after Crist went Indy and Murkowski is rumored to be going write-in. But thats all it is, pure speculation, reasonable perhaps, but nobody knows what would happen unless and until it happens. My interpretation of that interview is that he won’t do that should O’Donnell win, provided she goes about seeking his endorsement the right way. Of course this is before the pain of losing sets in, who knows whether he might change his mind, but hopefully not.

There’s not hardly any point in addressing this at this point, since the race is over one way or the other already, but just for the record, O’Donnell is not an ‘opportunist’, she’s been running a very open and honest campaign for quite some time, a Conservative campaign against a liberal front-runner, there’s nothing improper or unethical about actually running a campaign against someone with whom you disagree. Nor does she have character flaws, I saw an article earlier where they were criticizing her for having only made 5800 dollars last year, and for having been 1 course shy of graduation at a college she claimed she had graduated from (a course she subsequently passed and now she is technicly graduated). If someone wants to believe she isn’t rich enough to be a Senator, and not realizing she was 1 course short of graduation counts as a huge character flaw, they’re free to do so, but as for myself I have to laugh at criticisms like that, and say if thats the worst you’ve got on her she’ll be the closest thing to a Saint that they’ve got in Washington.

I mean we’ve got a guy in Connecticut, Blumenthal, who brazenly lied about fighting in Vietnam, when he never did. He didnt claim to fight for 4 years when he only served 3 years and 11 months, he climed to fight over there when he didn’t fight at all. And the man is the favorite to become US Senator from Connecticut, and somebody is complaining about Christine being 1 course short of graduation, like that makes her as bad or worse than Blumenthal? I think most voters are laughing at that all the way to the voting booth, where they’ll be voting for Christine later today. But we’ll see, hopefully at the end of the day we get the Party Unity we need, because O’Donnell’s voters and Castle’s voters together make an unbeatable force, whichever one ends up supporting the other.

No, it's not all speculation

cordpt Tuesday, September 14th at 9:22AM EST (link)

We know that one of this candidates had no problems in running against the GOP candidate in the past after being beat in the primary.

You know, one of these candidates is as low-character as Crist or (possibly) Murkowski and ran as a 3rd party/write-in candidate versus the legitimate winner of the primary.

No speculation whatsoever.

oh my - O'Donnell 2006 write in campaign

jasonhsv Tuesday, September 14th at 9:52AM EST (link)

I just looked this up on Wikipedia. In 2006, O’Donnell finished 3rd in the Republican primary for US Senate.

She then ran as a write-in candidate in the general election, finishing with 4%.

I had not heard of this before. My opinion of her just dropped even lower.

Something no one is talking about...

traversecityconservative (Diary) Tuesday, September 14th at 1:32PM EST (link)

The Republican party (whether county, state or national) should NOT be endorsing any candidates at the primary level and should financially support all candidates equally. Yes, I know I’m dreaming….

Thats exactly right

SirGladiator (Diary) Wednesday, September 15th at 4:31AM EST (link)

In theory they should be totally neutral in primaries, sadly in practice they tend to support the most liberal candidate running.

Now that the election is over, and it went pretty much exactly as the polling suggested, I’m disappointed that Castle either didn’t take very long to ‘look at’ endorsing O’Donnell, or was just lying about that all along and never intended to. Its also shocking that the NRSC put out a cry-baby statement that they aren’t going to support Christine. Delivering a big “—– you” to the Delaware voters is definitely a strange thing for a National party to do, but I guess when the RINOs show their true colors, they don’t always do so in a smart way. Christine will win in November with or without their help, and tonight she sent yet another RINO back to the Private Sector, where he can join Specter, Crist, Murkowski, etc. come November. We’re taking our Party back from the RINOs, and our Government back from the Democrats, and its a GREAT feeling!
