The President Speaks

I don’t think a President speaking to school children is necessarily bad.  I see in reviewing the transcript that some of the messages are good and are cliches that parents have delivered forever. I can understand some young students would feel privileged that the President would take the time to speak to them. I don’t think that a lesson plan designed by the administration is appropriate. I see where people would feel that those assignments supplied lean toward indoctrinating our children. I can understand this whole exercise has gone bad for a President on the wrong side of radical.

The President refers to himself (I is used 56 time) many times in his 18 minute speech.  Where is the great orator some seem to see.  Have they heard speeches by John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan?  The idea that this politician has ascended to the highest office in the Nation might be more admirable if we really knew what recommended him!  He is more a mystery than an inspiration.  This man, or his handlers,  knows how to play the political game . . . . . . . and a down and dirty contest it is.

My idea of inspiration runs more to past Presidents, and we don’t have to go way back in time either.

William Jefferson Blythe was born in 1946 to a man who died before he was born.  When his mother remarried he became William Jefferson Clinton.  Like his politics or not, this man came from humble beginnings to attend Georgetown University and become a Rhodes Scholar. Was a Governor of Arkansas and became our 42nd President.

Born in 1911, Ronald Wilson Reagan did not come from wealth but managed to graduate from college. A sport-inclined youth, “Dutch” (as he was called) considered an introvert, honed his skill as a speaker thru debating and acting.  He worked later as a radio announcer and Hollywood actor, served as president of the Screen Actors Guild, Governor of California and eventually became our 40th President.

Dwight David Eisenhower was born in 1890 to German immigrants. Was considered too old for admittance to the Naval Academy at Annapolis, but went on to graduate from West Point.  Served in the military with Gen MacArthur, was Supreme Allied Commander, and president of Columbia University.

My point here, of course, is that there are plenty of inspirational political examples. Unfortunately, President Obama is not one of them.  Elected by black majority, not based on past accomplishments, affirmative action is not much of a recommendation.  Not considering the fact that we are not allowed to know what he has actually done in life, because all of those things are under political lock and key. Obama, if you really want me to know who you are reveal yourself.

It is not very consoling to think that President Obama feels that these cliches that he will deliver today are highly inspirational.  Can he be so naively propped up by his followers that he fails to see that he is historically different from the others.  Just calling yourself black, doesn’t make up for the lack of substance.

The Blue Pill and Red Pill Must Go!

Barack Obama’s pill comment during a recent healthcare speech, just solidified for me the surreal feel of the time we live in.

“If there’s a blue pill and a red pill, and the blue pill is half the price of the red pill . . . . . . . . . . . ”

Where have I heard this pill reference before?  The 1999 classic film, The Matrix, is the answer.  In the movie the blue pill represents those who exist in the illusionary world of the Matrix; while the red pill people those who are freed from the Matrix and live in reality.  Perhaps, President Obama’s plans for all Americans do indeed dictate that we all swallow the little blue pill and surrender our freedoms.  And, more interestingly, is Barry a fan of this cult film or just happened to stumble on to this stunning double entendre?

As we are witnessing during Townhall Meetings around the nation, Americans are finding the little blue pill hard to swallow.   My advice . . . . . shake the blue pill trance, push aside the red pill, too, because neither is likely to increase performance or correct governmental dysfunction.

Out of the Pool!

Well, President Obama and family are on vacation.  They have rented “Blue Heron Farm” in the town of Chilmark, Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.

There are few cries of deserting his public responsibilities, that had accompanied President Bush’s attempts to escape the restrains of Washington.  Always thought job and its duties travelled with you when you’re the Commander in Chief.

But, of course, Obama is the grand  commander of “change.”  So why do I feel that he really thinks he’s on vacation?  The Press has been advised that there will be no cell phone or texting detailing the First Family movements on the island.  Anyone disobeying the rules will be kicked out of the pool.  Does that also mean that what happens on the island, stays on the island?  We need some reporters with a discerning eye.  Where are those representives of truth, justice and the American way?  Is that a Superman motto?

Anyway, I do hope that the President brought along some summer reading.   He could really kick back and read the proposed Healthcare Reform.

Oh, and before I forget, watch that bridge over to Chappaquiddick Island.  There was a terrible accident there years ago, that people still talk about.

Teachable Moment for Whom?

Okay, so it’s a go!  Obama, Gates and Crowley are to have a beer at the White House.  That’s right the President, the Harvard Professor and the Cambridge Sgt hoping to bond.  Chugging back their brewsky is apparently going to right this whole incident.  How can that be!

Whose teachable moment is it?  Perhaps the President, without having all the details of the case, should not have made it part of his blah-blah-blah press conference.  Reaching a conclusion just because someone is your friend is never a good idea.  Claiming the police acted “supidly” is much more than supid in itself.  Is this guy, who has such poor judgement, really the President?

Maybe our Harvard Professor should come to terms with the fact that even a white person would have had to answer the same questions he was asked.  The Sgt. was investigating a break in reported by a neighbor.  “Your Mama” is not a term usually attributed to those more educated, which he is.  What exactly does it mean anyway?

So I leave it to Sgt Crowley.  Hopefully, he can enlighten both the President and the Professor to the facts:  1) Its not always about race; 2) even if you’re black, you must answer the questions; 3) having friends in high places doesn’t exempt you; 4) get facts before you pick sides; 5) Presidents should not create racist issues with no merit.

Realizing the ego without end occupying the the White House, I’m sure the Pres will emerge the hero of the day. . . . . . . . in his own mind at least.  The rest of us, who know the police are the here to protect us, know the real story.  It’s not about race.

See You Later Alligator

It was with great sadness rather than amusement that I read the results of a recent mayoral election in Alligator, Mississippi.  The residents have elected their first black mayor.  Robert Fava, mayor for the last 30 years, has been defeated by Tommie “Tomaso” Brown.  Sixty four people voted and Mr. Brown won by 10 votes.

Mr. Fava’s “30 years of dedicated service” was defeated by Mr. Brown’s “change” campaign inspired by Barack Obama, to whom he gives total credit. Seventy-one year old Fava readily admits that he is ready for change also.

Seems to me the place has changed quite a bit already. Once a thriving little community farmed by European immigrants, predominately Italian-Americans, the town began to ease into decline when the schools closed. That was followed by the churches, stores, lumber yard, blacksmiths, and doctor’s offices.  The 1950′s saw the hotel close and getting there by train was no longer a possibility.  At one time, Alligator was its destination 8 times a day.

The stores are boarded up, vacant lots are overgrown or a camp for those who live in trailers. Vandalism runs high as does liquor consumption and pot use. It’s not unusual to have a 2-3 am knock on your door for weed.

Today three quarters of the population of 220 are black.  There are but a few third-generation Italian-Americans left. Those that are left are being taunted by “mooning” black youth heralding their new black mayor.

Mayor Brown seems to have a long way to go to fulfill his campaign promises.  How will be build the swimming pool and recreation center?  He wants more people to come to Alligator. He want people to be comfortable with much better living conditions.  As he mingles with the youth of the community, he hopes to understand their problems.

I can think of several initiatives for a solution to the problems that plague this little Mississippi town; but none of these conclusions have occurred to Mr. Brown.  What, you may ask, does he plan? Tommie Brown believes that small towns depend on government funding and that’s what he is seeking.

See You Later Alligator, After a While Crocodile!

He Wasn’t a Democrat?

It’s amazing how addictive being a politician can be.  As Pennsylvannia’s longest serving Senator, Arlen Spector can’t seem to accept that his 5 terms may soon be history.  He is behind in the polls.  His competition Congressman Pat Toomey is ahead by 15-21 points (depending on who you quote).  Being part of the ruling team may just deliver the boost he needs.  Of course, those of both parties often view Specter as unreliable and quick to overvalue his own importance.   This twice stricken cancer survivor’s 79 years have not tempered his biting personality.  But the Democrats need that hedge against the filibuster.  With Specter in place, can Franken be far behind?

All in the tub with Obama

Mug A Mug, Mug

Called Chicago thug

The pop star, the banker, the Commander-in-Chief

Surrounds himself with many a thief

Vote A Vote, Vote

He often does gloat

A resemblance to Lincoln, to Washington, to Reagan

Only to prove, he’s really a pagan

Yak A Yak, Yak

You’re on the wrong track

Guesting on talk shows and sports pick tv

Who do you think you really should be

Club A Club, Club

Ready to scrub

The Constitutional ideals on which we were built

Doing it all without the least bit of guilt

Rub A dub, Dub

A very old rhyme

From a time in our history when we were all fine

We, the Americans, had freedom and pride

Envied by others far and wide

Now is the time to stand up and say

“We will not have you take our freedoms away”

Are They Kidding?

Had to laugh out loud today, when I read that Michelle Obama had chosen the same pale yellow sweater that she wore the day of the Inauguration to give a community service talk – minus the diamond pin. The reporter for stylist.com commended the first lady for economizing!

This must be a joke! After we have witnessed the most extravagant inaugural party in US history – $160 million! The Obamas host parties that are lavish with cavier, Wagyu beef (America’s version of Kobe and $60-100 a lb.) and alcoholic beverages – the Presiden’ts favorite is apparently a vodka martini – are nowa weekly tradition penned in the White House calendar.

While our great leader chides America for its greed and excess, moderation seems to be a foreign concept at Pennsylvania Avenue.  McDonald’s has reported that their dollar menu has created an upswing in store sales. That dollar menu has become a standard for feeding a family economically.

The new administration has been anything but thrifty in the first 57 days.  The Obama’s contend that they want Americans to know that the White House is the people’s house.  And the events continue and the conga lines form under the watchful portraits of George and Martha in the East Room.

Meanwhile, I’m anxiously awaiting my invitation; and I think I’ll wear the same outfit I wore for the inauguration!

What Can I Say?

Well, it’s happened again.  Those not in favor of President Obamas policies are always attempting to shelter those who are.  A constant, “Watch what you say to him/her, because they think he’s a God” is a part of many conversations.  What have we all become? When did disagreement become so laden with fear and negativity? Race made Obama the winner. (Not to be denied when 95% of the black population voted for the black candidate.) But my disapproval has nothing to do with color and everything to do with idealogy. Where he’s bringing our country relates to how he has been educated to see America, and not a true reflection of America. America elevated him to President, with the help of the white family who nutured and sacrificed (his word) for him and a people who embraced him. These now he obviously seeks to punish.

I’m not alone in asking my pro Obama supporters - “Why don’t you see what we see?” But until THEY do, our train is all too swiftly running down a track that will eventually run off a cliff.  Unfortunately, for those of us with this vision we’re all on the same train headed for the same tragic end.

May God bless America – May God help us all!

March Madness

Today is the birthday of Gary Sinise.  A strong supporter of our military, Gary was executive producer of the documentary “Brothers at War.”  Fox News recently covered him visiting our soldiers in Iraq, telling the world of our brave men and women, and their pledge to keep us safe. Americans owe our armed forces a debt that can only be repaid with our love and gratitude.  We realize that there is a price for freedom.  Yet, today, President Obama disregards and disrespects the sacrifices they make.  In a grand scheme, he hopes to recoup $540 million, by requiring that private insurance carriers reimburse The Department of Veteran Affairs for service-related injuries.  An angered Commander David Rehbein of The American Legend stated that the President refused to hear arguments regarding moral or government obligations to our military. The Commander calls the failure to see the VA responsibility in these matters “unconscionable.”

This surely is March Madness.
