As Think Progress is astounded that "In a recent American Spectator article, former Reagan White House political director and QubeTV founder Jeffery Lord gives his vision of what 'America would look like in an age of Obama.' According to Lord, 'The word is fascism':" we need only remind them that their blind support of a hollow candidate can only mean the following:

Posted at 9:55am on Jul. 3, 2008 First Principles

By Fred Thompson

Friends, below are the remarks I'm just about to give to the National Right to Life 2008 Convention. I thought you might be interested in reading them.
------

First, I would like to thank you for your support in my recent political endeavor. In that business, many are called, but few are chosen. We took a strong stand for the principles we believe in, and together I believe we made a difference in the debate that will ultimately benefit our country.

The fact is – I have not changed my mind about any of what we discussed. The issues. Our nation’s values. And most important, our principles. And as I watch the presidential campaign I am convinced more than ever of the importance of these principles and I bet you feel the same way.

There has been a lot of talk about the need for change in this country. That is Senator Obama’s mantra, of course. And all of the commentators say, “It is a change election.” Well, I can understand why the call for change is so powerful considering the pitiful condition that our country is in.

We simply have the most prosperous, freest and strongest country in the history of the world. So we can understand why liberal politicians and their supporters see the need for great change.

On a more serious note, we have long recognized the role change plays in lives. Edmund Burke wrote extensively about it in the 18th century. He said that change was inevitable and when properly guided, change was a process of renewal. But it was his opinion that the man who loves change is disqualified from being a reformer because of his lust … to be the agent of change.

Remind you of anybody you know?

Please do read on below the fold . . .

By David Hinz

This week two major stories that concern the Man Made Global Warming debate have come to my attention. The first, This summer may see first ice-free North Pole, has been widely reported with banner headlines, proclaiming that this is the first time the arctic will be ice free in "recorded history."

The second article, Volcanic eruptions reshape Arctic ocean floor: study has, for some unexplained reason, received much less publicity.

Posted at 4:35pm on Jun. 26, 2008 Christine Reagan

By TomlinsonDouthat

On June 26, 1947, Christine Reagan was born. On June 26, 1947, Christine Reagan died. She was the daughter of Ronald Reagan and Jane Wyman.

Her death cannot have been a surprise, for her birth was premature—a precarious circumstance even with today's advanced medicine, and all the more in 1947. Whatever warning her parents may have had had, it cannot have made her death any less heartbreaking. This is one of the worst things that can happen to anybody. Nothing, surely, can prepare one for it, and nobody can walk away from such an experience unaffected.

But nobody is affected by such a tragedy in precisely the same way. We suffer according to our character, and we respond to our suffering likewise. Jane Wyman was a private woman, and so the particular nature of her suffering is none of our business. Ronald Reagan, however, was a very public figure, and one of the most influential men in American history. It is our task to understand his suffering, so that we might better understand him and the influence he still has upon this country.

Posted at 9:11am on Jun. 24, 2008 This is what I'm doing to help John McCain win, care to join me?

By toeknee35

I recently read some text that said,
"the more you think about something, whether good or bad, you only empower them."

So, what a couple of co-workers and I are doing at the office (and I am doing so at home as well), is call John's opponent as just that, John's opponent. The more you mention his name, the more POWER you are giving his name. So, I say we focus that energy and power on John so John can win.

Posted at 12:56pm on Jun. 20, 2008 MLK's words twisted

By hillorphan

"I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content ot their character"
That was our nation then. and the feeling is light years behind us. Character on the other hand as MLK said is fair game whether you're black white or green. Makes not difference.

Obama: too arrogant, fire fanner, uses reverse psychology. He knows everything apparently! “”Typical teenager” he hasn’t grown up yet. (“hire a teenager he knows everything” Elect Obama he knows everything” Right!

Posted at 2:29pm on Jun. 19, 2008 Inspirational Teachers Breed Success

By GPSkins

I’ve written recently on the need for improved math and science and education in our schools as a way to reduce outsourcing, and I’m back with another “educational” post on the value and power of inspiration in schools here at home and around the world. I can speak to the very real power of inspiration – I had an immeasurable amount of teachers in high school and college that challenged and inspired me to work to the best of my abilities, think in different ways, and push myself to do things I never thought I could. Indeed, our fabled genius Al Einstein once said that “it is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.” But what about those kids that don’t have those special teachers that go above and beyond the call: the teachers that don’t spend extra time helping those students who are struggling, or the teachers that merely teach the lesson and nothing else?

Posted at 1:35pm on Jun. 19, 2008 Teen pregnancy runs rampant ... Catholics to blame?

By crousehold

So there I was, minding my own business and catching up on the news when a story catches my eye. Apparently a high school in Massachusetts ended the school year with 17 girls pregant in a school of 1200. The article suggests that these girls made some sort of pact in which they would all get pregnant. In fact, some of the fathers are in their 20s! Now, I'm only 26, and pretty sure that I'm not completely out of touch, but my reaction was a resounding "WHAT!?!?"

Posted at 6:47am on Jun. 18, 2008 The devil can make himself look like God...but he is still the devil!

By Skycop150

I got up this morning and after going through my usual routine I decided to check out the news. Turned on the computer and for some bizarre reason, I click over to the NY Times and found this article: Godless.

I should really know better by now not to read the NY Times but...no there is no but, I should just know better. The basis of the article, is that, for the rest of the election Mr. Egan doesn't want to hear about God. He goes on to list numerous quotes, from President Kennedy and how he believed in separation of Church and State, and Presidents shouldn't express their religion. The latter was a quote he printed from Pres. Kennedy, but what Mr. Egan forgets to mention is that in Pres. Kennedy's day people were looking at him crossed-eyed for being a Roman Catholic. Here are a few snippets of the article:

By tracycoyle

My family is hard to get involved with. We are not unlikeable, on the contrary, most people will tell you we are a very likable and we friendly bunch. What makes it hard is that we all talk at the same time.

At the family table, us 6 kids would be talking with each other and we would be talking to our parents too. It was nothing to have 4 or 5 conversations going at once. Yes, that means I could be having 2 or 3 going at one time. To most people, the family chat was almost incomprehensible. Spouses would take months, sometimes longer, to learn how to participate fully.

Posted at 6:17pm on Jun. 13, 2008 The Feminization of the American male

By bs

(HT: Justin Taylor)

If popular culture in the United States is to be believed, we are now a country of tough females and weenie males. A gradual emasculation of the American male has been under way for quite some time now, accelerated by things such as the aggressive branding of overactive boys as "ADHD" and the subsequent over-drugging with Ritalin, etc, or through the way the media and culture portrays the male.

Posted at 9:21am on Jun. 10, 2008 Arguing Necessary Versus Sufficient On Abortion

By Repair Man Jack

At one point in his career, Doug Kmiec may have been a worthy professor of law, whose instincts were based on sound judgment and impeccable logic. Then the poor man took a flyer on Barak Obama. Having read the logical contortions Kmiec finds himself forced into while justifying Barak Obama’s position on abortion, I find the man more qualified to win The World Twister Championship.

He starts his latest effort by making us wonder why anyone, as a practicing Catholic, would care what the idiot behind the pulpit was saying during a sermon.

Posted at 12:04pm on Jun. 9, 2008 Media Get it Wrong: 1 in 4 Teens do NOT Have STDs

By Warner Todd Huston

Could science and statistics be beyond the media's ability to understand and report upon them? One might be excused to think so by the hash the MSM made of the supposed claim that in the U.S. one in four teenaged girls have a sexually transmitted disease. On March 11, the CDC issued a press release announcing a study that made the claim, but did not release the full study so that anyone interested might see the whole story. Regardless of the further facts that serves to sharply decreases that one in four number, the media rushed to sensationalize the shocking claim that 25 percent of our young girls have STDs.

Posted at 10:39am on Jun. 8, 2008 When Dire Predictions Die, They Die With a Whimper

By Vladimir

H/T Drudge

Alarmism makes for good headlines, good copy and political (read: monetary) rewards. Healthy skepticism and a rational consideration of the facts may be politically unpopular, but it is the correct approach in most cases.

Once upon a time, newspaper headlines and newsmagazine covers fairly screamed, WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE! of AIDS! AIDS, the scourge of the gay community, IS SPREADING UMPTEEN TIMES FASTER AMONG HETEROSEXUALS! Skeptics and deniers were the SPAWN OF SATAN HIMSELF!

Great story. Except that it didn't work out that way.

Threat of world Aids pandemic among heterosexuals is over, report admits
