Bill to repeal the 22nd Amendment

On January 6,2009 Rep. Jose’ Serrano (D. NY-16) introduced H.J. Res. 5.  “Consitiutional Amendment-Repeals the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution (thereby removing the limitation of the number of terms an indidvidual may serve as President.)  This bill was referred to the House Sub-committee on February 9,2009.

We all need to be watching Washington very carefully.  We need to be going to the Senate and Representative websites to look up what is being put forth and then let everyone know what we find because we can not depend on our media to let us know and contrary to what we have been told it doesn’t look like we are going to get the transparency that we were promised.

Now I know a lot of people are saying Obama may be a one-term President.  Don’t count on that.  With all the power grabbing that is going on already WE THE PEOPLE must be vigilent.  We cannot drop out guard.  Watch all our Senators and Representatives, Democratic and Republican.  If you don’t like what they are doing let people know and let your Senator and Representative know.  Hold them accountable to us.

We need to educate ourselves and others as to what our Constitutions says is our rights and responsabilities.  We need to know which branch of Government controls what so that when someone oversteps the boundaries we can call them on it.  Our Forefathers knew first hand what it was like to live under the rule of tyrants that’s why they made the Constitution restrictive.  Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, they knew this.

I am getting very afraid that the great country we inherited from our parents will not be the country that our children are given.  This fight to ensure that it remains great is ours not theirs.  This is not a call to arms although that right is given to us in our Constitution.  There are peaceful ways to reign in the remaking of our country.  Phone calls,e-mail, blogs, twitter, rallies, petitions, impeachment petitions, join groups that support what you believe in: these are all things that are open to us to use.

doesn’t think much of President George Washington’s precedent of leaving after two terms before that amendment either.

From the movie “Hard Times”

Jill Ireland: “What does it feel like to knock somebody down?”
Charles Bronson: “It makes me feel a hell of a lot better than it does him.”

one term president?

Obama a one-term president? I think that is unlikely. It is true that the economy may still be suffering from the porkulus bill by then, but inflation is unlikely to reach the levels of the 1970s.

Every time a party has won the White House since Grover Cleveland left office – with the lone exception of Jimmy Carter – it has stayed in power for at least two terms.

With, again, the exception of Reagan taking “Carter’s second term” it has been exactly two terms since Truman left office.

The country has not re-elected 3 consective presidents since Jefferson-Madision-Monroe. At that point the Democratic-Republicans were the only major party at the time due to the federalist falling apart after Hamilton’s assisination.
