The History of Social Security

I got this in an e-mail today and since I don’t have a large number of people in my address book I thought I would type it here so it can be spread to a bigger audience. This is typed directly from the e-mail since I have no clue how to paste or link.  I leave that kind of thing to my 12 year old daughter but she is in school right now here it goes.

History of Your Social Security

Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) didn’t know this.  It is easy to check out, if you don’t believe it.  Be sure to show it to your kids.  They need a little history lesson on what’s what and it doesn’t matter whether you are a Democrat or Republican.  Facts are Facts!!!

Franklin Roosevelt , a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program.  He promised:

1. That participation in the Program would be Completely Voluntary.

No longer Voluntary

2. That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1400. of their annual incomes into the program.

Now 7.65% of the first $90,000.

3. That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible form their income for tax purposes each year.

No longer tax deductible.

4. That the money the participants put into the independent “trust fund” rather into the general operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program and no other Government program.

Under Johnson the money was moved to The General Fund and spent

5. That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.

Under Clinton and Gore up to 85% of your Social Security can be taxed.

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now recieving a Social Security check every month– and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal govenment to but away– you may be interested in the following;

Q. Which Political Party took Social Security from the Independent “Trust Fund”  and put into the general fund so that Congress could spend it?

A. It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically controlled House and Senate.

Q. Which Political Party started taxing Social Security?

A. The Democratic Party with Al Gore casting the tie-breaking deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice-President of the USA.

Q. Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants? AND MY FAVORITE!

A.  That’s right!  Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party.  Immigrants moved into this country and at age 65 began to recieve Social Security payment.  The Democratic Party gave these payments to them even though they never paid a dime into it!

Then , after viloating the original contract (FICA) the Democratics turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away.  And the worst part about this is uninfomed citizens believe it!

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe changes will evolve.  Maybe not, some Democratics are awfully sure of what isn’t so.  But it’s worth a try.

AND CONGRESS GIVES THEMSELVES 100% RETIREMENT FOR ONLY SERVING ONE TERM!

A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.

Thomas Jefferson.

That’s the whole e-mail hope many of you will pass this information along.

I hope my Saints can break the Obama curse!

I was just listening to the radio on my way home and heard that Obama is routing for the Saints in the Superbowl.  This is not good news.  Everything he has routed for lately has failed miserably.  For crying out loud he couldn’t get a democratic elected in Mass!  All you Saints fans out there need to start praying.  What does he have against the Saints?  I mean haven’t we been through enough without the President putting a hex on us?

Senator Vitter and Representative JohnFleming Introduce Resolutions onHealthcare Bill

On July 8,2009 and on August 5,2009 Rep. Fleming and Sen. Vitter, respectively, introduced resolutions that if passed would required the  Congressmen to give up their federal insurance and enroll in the public option provided in the healthcare bill.  Both men stated that if Congress thought that this bill was such a good idea then they should be the first to enroll instead of exempting themselves as they do in the healthcare bill.  Both of these bills were sent to committee.  The House version has been in the Committee of House Administration since July 8th.  The Senate version is in the committee of Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs since August 5th.

Since these committees have had over a month to review these resolutions maybe it’s time for the American People started calling them and asking them to send these resolutions on for a vote in the House and Senate.  It would force the Representatives and Senators who would vote against it to explain why if they think it’s such a good idea for the American People why it is not a good idea for them.  On the other hand it could kill the healthcare bill completely because they will be forced to vote for enrolling themselves and their families and they don’t want the kind of healthcare they are selling.

I think Congress owes us an apology!

I have been watching and listening to all of the outrage and anger about AIG and the more I hear the angrier I get with our Representatives and Senators.  I totally agree that these bonuses were a bad idea however AIG let Congress know about them a long time ago why are they outraged now?  Most of the Democratics and 3 Republicans voted for the stimulus bill that contained the amendment to allow these bonuses so why are they outraged now?  We keep hearing we didn’t know it was in there.  Who’s fault is that, AIG’s or theirs?  Our Representatives and Senators chose not to take the time to make sure they knew what this bill had in it.  Why should the American public be mad at AIG for doing what the government said was ok with them?  Each elected official who did not do their jobs should be ashamed of the fact that they betrayed each and every citizen by not reading this before they voted.  If they had signed a contract without reading it they would still be bound by that contract this is no different than that.  Ignorance of a law is no defense in court it has no defense here.  Their job is to protect the interest of the American people and they were grossly negeligent in doing this.  I’m waiting for the next thing to come out that they will all cry about because they did not know.  As a matter of fact I heard somewhere and I’m not sure how true it is but Fanny Mae and Freddy both have these same kind of bonuses that are going to be paid out soon.  I certainly hope that we won’t have to go through this again with them.  THE BLAME BELONGS TO CONGRESS AND THEY SHOULD APOLOGIZE TO US INSTEAD OF TRYING TO PASS THE BUCK.

I was so excited when I was told St Bernard Project would be on CNN

However Anderson Cooper really needs to learn to read a map.  St Bernard project is not rebuilding houses in New Orleans.  Project St Bernard is rebuilding houses in St. Bernard Parish.  Contrary to popular belief New Orleans does not cover all of  Southeastern Louisiana.  It is so frustrating that anytime Katrina is mentioned the only city you hear about is New Orleans.  St Bernard Parish was completely wiped out.  100% of buildings in St Bernard Parish were wiped out by flood waters.  The French Quarter recieved only 18 inches of water my house in Violet,Louisiana in St Bernard Parish recieved 9 feet of water.  Lower Plaquamines Parish was also completely wiped out.  Bay St. Louis was also devestated by this storm.  However New Orleans that recieved damage to only a small percentage of it areas gets all the press.  Even when the news organizations are in St Bernard Parish filming like Anderson Cooper is as I type this he says he is reporting from New Orleans.  Now we share a border with New Orleans we are not New Orleans.  Anyone who has any civic pride in their hometown should be able to understand where I’m coming from.  How would you feel if anytime something happened in your hometown it was referred to as the nearest big city?  It’s enough to make you scream.

Now I want to give praise to Project St Bernard and the volunteers that come in from all over.  At this time Project St Bernard is rebuilding my home.  I have had volunteers from Atlanta, New York, and Alaska just to name a few.  Last week we had kids from Duke and the  University of North Carolina.  This week we have a group from Cornell.  Each and every one of these volunteers has blessed my family by coming here to help us.  If it weren’t for Project St Bernard my home would just be a cement slab.

I found these three bills that have been introduced in the House

The first was introduced by Walter B. Jones (NC-3). It is H.R.24 introduced 1/06/2009 named the Dept of Navy to Dept of Navy and Marine Corp.  This bill wants to change the Department of the Navy’s name to the Department of the Navy and Marine Corp.  It would mean that wherever the name “Dept of Navy” is it would have to be changed.   It’s not that big of a deal until you start thinking of the cost such a bill would run up.  With no disrespect to Marines active, reserve or retired I think this is not something we need to be doing right now.  We are already spending money we don’t have. Not to mention the amount of paper and such that would be wasted I don’t think the enviromentalist would approve.

The next is H.R.40 introduced on 2/09/2009 by John Conyers called the Commission to Study Reparation Proposals for African-Americans Act.  This bill is to study the effect slavary had when it was legal and what effect it is still having on African-Americans today.  Now I don’t know of anyone who belives that slavery is or was a good thing.  I also don’t know of anyone in the United States who owns slaves since it has been illegal for a very long time.  I don’t think that anyone who owned slaves or was a slave is still alive.  The result of slavery to this day as I see it is that there are hundreds of thousands of African-Americans that are not living in huts in Kenya.  They did not starve to death in Ethiopia.  They did not suffer under Aparthied in South Africa or suffer any of the other horrible things that have been reported out of Africa.

Finally is H.R. 45 introduced 1/06/2009 by Bobby L. Rush (IL-1)  called the Blair Holt’s Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009.  This bill will require anyone who manufactures, sells or purchases a handgun or any semi-automatic firearm that can accept any detachable ammo feeding device have a license.  It will be just like a driver’s license.  You will be required to take classes and pass tests.  There will be records of what guns you have purchased and when.  You will be forbidden from selling your gun to anyone who does not have a license.  The exception to the bill is antiques.  It seems to me that they are not even trying to hide the idea of gun registration anymore.  Take this as a shot across the bow of our second amendment rights.

H.R. 15 submitted on 1/6/2009

by Rep. John D. Dingall (D. MI-15) titled “National Health Insurance Act”.  It seems the Dems aren’t letting any grass grow under their feet.  This bill sets up the National Health Care Trust Fund.

Under Section 102(c) it says—

Recommendations- The board shall have the duty of–

(1) studying and making recommentations as to needed services and facilities for the care of the chronic sick afflicted with physical ailments and for the care of individuals afflicted with mental or nervous disorders, and as to needed provisions for the prevention of chronic physical dieases and of mental or nervous diseases and

(2) making reports from time to time with recommendations as to legislation, but the first such report shall be made not later them two years after benefits under this Act first become available.

Under Sec. 104  Eligibility for benefits  it states that people will be eligible for this is they have recieved not less then $2000 in wages during the first four of the last six calander quarters.

Please if I am reading this wrong let me know but it looks like they are pushing for government run health care quickly.  There has been no activity as of this morning since it was introduced so we have time to let our voices be heard.

Bill to repeal the 22nd Amendment

On January 6,2009 Rep. Jose’ Serrano (D. NY-16) introduced H.J. Res. 5.  “Consitiutional Amendment-Repeals the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution (thereby removing the limitation of the number of terms an indidvidual may serve as President.)  This bill was referred to the House Sub-committee on February 9,2009.

We all need to be watching Washington very carefully.  We need to be going to the Senate and Representative websites to look up what is being put forth and then let everyone know what we find because we can not depend on our media to let us know and contrary to what we have been told it doesn’t look like we are going to get the transparency that we were promised.

Now I know a lot of people are saying Obama may be a one-term President.  Don’t count on that.  With all the power grabbing that is going on already WE THE PEOPLE must be vigilent.  We cannot drop out guard.  Watch all our Senators and Representatives, Democratic and Republican.  If you don’t like what they are doing let people know and let your Senator and Representative know.  Hold them accountable to us.

We need to educate ourselves and others as to what our Constitutions says is our rights and responsabilities.  We need to know which branch of Government controls what so that when someone oversteps the boundaries we can call them on it.  Our Forefathers knew first hand what it was like to live under the rule of tyrants that’s why they made the Constitution restrictive.  Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, they knew this.

I am getting very afraid that the great country we inherited from our parents will not be the country that our children are given.  This fight to ensure that it remains great is ours not theirs.  This is not a call to arms although that right is given to us in our Constitution.  There are peaceful ways to reign in the remaking of our country.  Phone calls,e-mail, blogs, twitter, rallies, petitions, impeachment petitions, join groups that support what you believe in: these are all things that are open to us to use.

Tax by the mile on Drudge

I just read a story on drudge that has me a little concerned.  It’s about changing from taxing gasoline for roads and that to taxing by how many miles you drive.  They bring up about electric cars and alternative-fuel vehicles using the roads but not buying as much gas as regular cars.  Now at first I was ok I can see that but then I started thinking about the people who have to drive long distances  to work, truck drivers, cab drivers, school buses and how the prices of everything would go up because the businesses would want to defray the extra costs to their businesses.  Maybe not such a good idea.

The thing that really started to worry me was how they want to track that mileage.  When I started reading I figured the easiest way to figure this would be monthly or yearly.  At the beginning of each month your odometer is read and you pay taxes that way, right?  Wrong!  They want to equipe each car and truck with GPS, clocks and other equipement so they can record how many miles you drive, whether you were on highways or secondary roads, and whether you drove on-peak or off-peak hours.  You would then be taxed when this information was downloaded.

Now maybe it’s just me but this scares me that the government would then be able to track everywhere I was at any time of day.  Yes I know the report says that you would have to go somewhere to download the information but how long will it take for them to change to …”You know what that is so much of an inconvience to the people let’s just download the information remotely.”  If on-star can start your car for you this could easily be done.

I have to vent

Why is it necessary for President Obama to fly to Denver today to sign a bill that no one has read. Isn’t that what the Oval Office is for?   In a time which we have been told by the President that the economy is worst since the Great Depression ( where was he during the 70′s and early 80′s: I don’t know) why is he flying all over the place?  I tried to search the internet for a list of trips he has taken since becoming President and couldn’t find one so I’ll have to go by memory.  I know he has gone to Florida, Indiana, Chicago, and now Denver in just the last couple of weeks.

I don’t know about you but I am getting real tired of this do as I say not as I do attitude in Washington.  They come down on CEO’s for having coroporate jets and then turn around and fly all over the place in theirs.  They even flew a Senator from his/her mother’s funeral in for a couple of hours to vote for a bill the Senator hadn’t even read.  But the American taxpayers are the ones who have to tighten their belts?

Tell you what when they start taking commercial flights (I understand the President can’t, but he can choose to limit those trips.  I don’t think anyone would mind meeting in the White House)  then they can complaign about what everyone else is doing.

I know this is asking for the moon but wouldn’t it be nice for our elected officials to lead by example?  Here’s an idea you want us to tighten our belts tighten yours first.  You want CEO’s and companies to take pay cuts? You first!  You are all rich anyway why do you need our money?  Pay for your own health insurance again you are rich why take from hard-working citizens you are supposed to be representing.  Take care of your own retirement we have a hard enough time taking care of our own.  You won’t be the senior citizens rationing their medicine or choosing between what to buy ,food or medicine.

You are supposed to be public servants! So start serving the public.  All of it not just the ones who got you elected.  Get the lobbyists out of Washington if they want your attention then they should have to get it the same way everyone else does.  Not that you listened to any of us when we lit up your phone lines trying to get you to get rid of the garbage in the stimulus bill.

You want us to conserve energy?  You first!  President Obama put on a sweater like the rest of us.  Oh and a Cadillac is not the most energy efficient vechicle out there either.

Also stop trying to silence the people who don’t agree with you.  For eight years we heard that dissent was patriotic now all of a sudden we are supposed to shut up.  There is a reason for the First Amendment.  And on that note there is nothing wrong with our Constitution keep your hands off of it and learn what it says and abide by those rules they have served us very well.

And leave the second amendment alone to.  Remember guns don’t kill people ;people kill people.  If we follow your thinking on this we have to outlaw: knives, bows and arrows, baseball bats, tire irons, any pest control product, screw drivers, ice picks, anything that plugs into a wall, pillows, saran wrap, garbage bags, lamps, trophies or any type of award that has any weight to it, any type of hard wood plank, fire, water, liquer, medicine, certain types of house plants, automobiles, and motorcycles.  Feel free to add to the list.

Thanks for letting me vent.
