Despite Joe Biden's Promises, Hunter Is Still in Bed With the Chinese Government

Throughout the Trump administration, the media had an unhealthy obsession with the unfounded and largely fabricated narrative that the Trumps were only in it for the money. Despite the entirety of the Trump fortune being placed in a trust, under which President Trump had no control, the media continued to insist that Trump’s entire goal was to enrich his children through connections made while serving as President.

Meanwhile, while the media was foaming at the mouth at attempts to down Trump, they ignored the mountain of evidence that surfaced that Hunter Biden not only was enriched by his father’s Vice Presidential connections but likely used US Government resources to do so. Before the 2020 election, we (RedState’s now-Managing Editor Jennifer Van Laar and myself) reported extensively on Hunter Biden’s business dealings in both China and Ukraine, which was widely rejected by the MSM as “propaganda,” never mind the fact that the entirety of RedState’s reporting was based upon prior MSM reporting, US Government public records, as well as Chinese government records that showed Hunter Biden firms that were in partnerships with Chinese government-owned agencies.

Oftentimes these business dealings were inherent threats to national security, like Hunter’s assistance with the purchase of Henniges, a US manufacturer that made stealth technology used on the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. That purchase was approved by the CFIUS, a committee that approves foreign investment in the US and required Executive Branch sign-off as a portion of their approval process.

BHR’s dealings tied Hunter to people like Chris Heinz (John Kerry’s stepson), Devon Archer (later convicted of fraud for other business dealings), and James Bulger (nephew of the former mob boss, Whitey Bulger).

Despite the mountain of evidence suggesting Hunter Biden’s business dealings came about only a result of Hunter’s link to the Obama Presidency, the Bidens laughably denied this, saying that Hunter’s business relationships had nothing to do with his father’s name or any alleged profiting off of those connections. What made this particularly frustrating was that the Bidens provided no alternative explanation – because Hunter’s resume, which is devoid of any experience or education that would justify the type and level of compensation he was being offered, certainly wasn’t one.

Similarly, the MSM has never questioned Hunter’s qualifications nor Hunter’s “administrative” discharge from the US Navy for cocaine use. Others in the Navy would have likely faced a dishonorable discharge. The Navy likely took the administrative discharge action as a result of attempting to save the Obama Presidency from any embarrassment.

In October 2019, Hunter Biden stated that he was going to resign from the boards of any foreign companies during his father’s then-hypothetical Presidency.

Hunter Biden is stepping down from a director’s position at a Chinese private-equity firm and said he wouldn’t serve on any foreign boards if his father, Joe Biden, is elected president, lowering his controversial business profile as it becomes embroiled in the 2020 election and Democrats’ efforts to impeach President Trump.

After the election the MSM began acknowledging many issues raised by RedState before the election, causing then-President-Elect Biden to promise that members of the Biden family would divest themselves of any foreign interests during his Presidency.  At the time, Biden made the following comment regarding Hunter’s foreign business dealings:

“My son, my family will not be involved in any business, any enterprise that is in conflict with or appears to be in conflict with where there’s appropriate distance from the presidency and government”

According to another Wall Street Journal report in December 2020, Hunter was still 10% owner (through his firm Skaneateles, LLC) of BHR, Bohai Harvest Rosemont, and largely benefitted with this firm because of his family’s name and connections as a result thereof:

“The dealings got the younger Mr. Biden a discounted stake in a private-equity firm in China and consulting arrangements with a Romanian property magnate and overall allowed him to maintain a globe-trotting lifestyle, according to interviews, documents and communications reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. A Chinese energy tycoon gave Mr. Biden a 2.8-carat diamond, and entities linked to him wired nearly $5 million to Mr. Biden’s law firm..”

Again, as reported in January 2021, The Daily Caller dug into BHR’s public filing to find that Hunter was still a part-owner of the company, which is majority-owned by the Chinese government.

But Hunter Biden continues to hold his equity stake in BHR through his company, Skaneateles LLC, as of Wednesday, according to Qixinbao and Baidu, two independent services that provide business records on Chinese corporations based on China’s National Credit Information Publicity System.

At the time, this report was used to question the Biden Administration about Hunter’s continued involvement. Jen Psaki ended up deflecting and providing a non-answer:

“He has been working to unwind his investment but I would certainly point you — he’s a private citizen — I would point you to him or his lawyers on the outside on any update,” Psaki said during her daily briefing.

The delay in Hunter’s divestment of his 10 percent share of BHR comes despite his father’s post-election pledge that no relatives would have even the appearance of a conflict of interest with his administration.

Since then, the Daily Caller has again updated their report and found that Hunter is still a 10% owner in the BHR partnership, a share that is worth a potential 200 million dollars (or more).

Hunter Biden continues to hold a minority stake in a Chinese private equity firm 100 days into President Joe Biden’s term, business records show.

Hunter Biden holds a 10% equity stake in BHR Partners through his company, Skaneateles LLC, according to Qixinbao and Baidu, two independent services that provide business records on Chinese corporations based on China’s National Credit Information Publicity System.

Considering the list of actions Hunter has taken in the US on behalf of his foreign partners and clients, Hunter Biden also never registered as a foreign agent, despite the likely requirement that he did so.  The Foreign Agent Registration Act, passed in 1938, is described on the DOJ’s website:

FARA requires certain agents of foreign principals who are engaged in political activities or other activities specified under the statute to make periodic public disclosure of their relationship with the foreign principal, as well as activities, receipts and disbursements in support of those activities.  Disclosure of the required information facilitates evaluation by the government and the American people of the activities of such persons in light of their function as foreign agents.

Considering Hunter’s business dealings are clearly a result of his father’s position within the government, they would be inherently political, requiring registration under FARA. Also, as previously discussed, Hunter’s political connections were almost certainly necessary for the approval of AVIC’s purchase of Henniges in 2015.

It is also important to note that if even a fraction of the evidence available against Hunter, was available against one of the Trump family, the MSM would have been all over it.  It is pretty clear at this point, they are protecting the Biden family.  Meanwhile, here at RedState, we engage in actual journalism.
