I was looking at a Webster's Dictionary with an outline of American History in it over the weekend. Of course the oultine ended with Jimmy Carter given the date that this think was published. In it, FDR is given much praise for his programs as the reason for pulling the US economy out of the depression. Without going to much in to it, the historian that put this together seemed very bias towards Democrats since the Stagflation of the 70's was placed at the feet of Nixon and Ford, not at the feet of the rightful owner Jimmy Carter.

I'm debating either medicine (MD) or engineering (electronics, mechanical, or civil). I'm hoping to make the decision when I take chemistry.

I know what you mean about pragmatism. If I persue medicine, I'll finish residency at about age 50! However if I persue engineering, I could get a masters at about age 42. Decisions, decisions.

As far as the liberalism goes, I take most of my classes online so it's nice to avoid the campus. My history class is most amazing as the text is so incredibly biased. I feel sorry for the students who have no prior knowledge of history or politics. I'm reading about Eisenhower now and the text practically makes him out to be the anti-Christ while FDR is a saint. I can't wait to see what it says about Reagan, Clinton, and G.W. Bush!

You are to be complimented for attending college at age 35. I don't know if I could handle the liberal slant at my age (I have about 10 years on you). I would really like to go back to school and study sociology and/or philosophy and/or theology, but from a pragmatic point of view, it would be much more useful if I got an MBA.

I'm tired of being pragmatic.

I'm amazed at how biased the textbook is but at least the prof. seems to be fair and impartial.

This particular essay is posted in an online forum where everyone can read each others' work. Of course some of my classmates are singing the praises of the New Deal and Obama but I just keep my keyboard to myself, so to speak.

As you said, I think you went off topic on this. The professor should have said something like which period of American History (colonial, early U.S. history, civil war, WWII, WWI, Great Depression and Stagflation) or which sub-topic of American History interests you the most (i.e. political, social, military, scientific or inventions.

I agree with your perspective; however, I suspect your professor will expect an example of "Our text is a good source of basic historical knowledge, but it’s lacking in details and filled with liberal bias and I think that’s unfortunate."

If it is supposed to be a short essay, then I think you will get a B... If your professor states that the essay was not on topic you will probably receive an C.

Hope I was helpful.
