Compassionate Conservatism is so Yesterday Karl- We All know How That Worked Out

I just watched Wallace’s Sunday morning show. He announced at the very beginning that O’Donnell was supposed to be a guest, but, her campaign canceled on Friday night saying she was exhausted, and was returning home to DE. He said she called him the next morning, and told him she already had prior commitments in her own state that she chose to attend.

He announced that his guests were to be Rove, Murkowski and Miller. While talking to Rove, he said that Murkowski was up next. Murkowski never showed. He never made the first mention as to why Murkowski was a no show, yet mentioned O’Donnell’s cancellation yet again.

There is no question at all, whatsoever, in my mind, that there is very definitely a concerted effort to oust O’Donnell, as any kind of credible candidate, and it is not only coming from the Juan Williams types.

It does seem that O’Donnell does need some better people running her campaign. To cancel an interview because of exhaustion, is not a good strategy.   O’Donnell’s reason, that she wanted to honor her prior commitments to the people in DE, was more than plausible. Obviously there is a lack of coordination within the O’Donnell campaign. If Palin wants to help O’Donnell, she would help out with replacing, or adding to O’Donnell’s advisors and spokespeople.

Seems that the new mantra now has become, those that helped her win the primary, need to go to DE to drag her over the finish line. Funny that Palin wasn’t required to get to Kentucky to help pull Rand Paul across the finish line, or she wasn’t required to spend her time in NV in order to pull Angle across the finish line. I may be mistaken, but, I believe it was Rove that started that crap line, and, he did repeat it again this morning. Palin can help O’Donnell in many ways that don’t involve her camping out in DE until election day.  Rove made a point of saying that Paul and Angle went up in the polls after they won their primaries, yet O’Donnell’s polling numbers show her down by 11 points against the Democrat.  Is he relying on polls that were done  “the day after” the previous primaries?  He never acknowledges that O’Donnell was actually ahead of the Democrat, before the Castle machine, and he, started in on her personal failings.

At this point, if I were Palin, Levin and Malkin, I would make some appearances in DE.  Palin could do one speech there, and advertise it ahead of time. Palin still draws huge crowds, no mater where she goes. One visit is all that is needed. I think she will do it, and soon, and, she will put her money where her mouth is.  She needs to go all in for O’Donnell, more than any of the others she endorsed. This is absolutely a fight for the establishment Republicans vs. the voters that are running away from them, and are electing people who are not seen as operatives trying to trick the voters into keeping them in power. It is a fight for the heart and soul of what the Republicans once stood for, long before anyone named Rove came on the scene. I don’t know where Rove stands on Palin, but, I would bet he wouldn’t go there now, with the amount of support she has gotten.  She is bigger than him.  She is so today, and, he is so yesterday.  I do know Krauthammer has been against Palin from day one.

It seems to me that  most candidates, are advised by many, to stay on message.  Make your points about what policies and issues you support.  McCain failed to do that, and he paid the price for it. If he had any kind of message, other than, no one has to fear an Obama presidency, it was all over the board. Your position on the issues are what voters want to know.  What will you support when you go to DC, that is something I agree with.  Hasn’t the advice always been, stay on message?  O’Donnell has not been allowed to stay on message, it has been drowned out by calls for her to explain what she really meant by something that she did or said when she was “young and dumb.”  How many of us here didn’t say or do some really dumb stuff when we also were “young and dumb”?  As Liz Cheney pointed out on Wallace’s panel, Scott Brown posed nude for a magazine when he was younger, yet, no one made any big deal of that.  It’s an important distinction.  Rove believes that the voters in DE will not listen to her message on the issues, until she fully explains herself on her personal issues.  Funny that Rove never made any big deal of other elected Republican’s personal issues, in the past.  All he cared about was that they were electable.  He has done everything he can to make O’Donnell unelectable, and has unfortunately been given the microphone in order to spread  his message, and, sadly that message has been spread mainly on FOX.  She already has proven that she is electable, and, rather than speaking out against the Democrat in the race, Rove has gone all in against someone who is much more on the side of the voters than Rove.  It is obvious to me now, that Rove is functioning from some kind of personal vendetta.  This is all coming from the third most hated Republican back around 2006, as Vassar has pointed out.

Please do all of us Republicans and Conservatives a favor Karl Rogue, get out of the way so that we can support the primary candidate winners, elected by the voters, so that we can finally get some sanity back in Washington, which you helped to destroy, with your deceitful “Compassionate Conservatism.”

I agree it's time to start working to elect her

cordpt Sunday, September 19th at 1:07PM EST (link)

I’ve had enough of people whining about Rove. Whining is for losers.

If Rove is passé and doesn’t matter, then his statements don’t matter either. Those who don’t agree with him on his view of this race have here a golden chance to prove him wrong and show that O’Donnell is electable (winning a primary doesn’t make one electable though).

What I stinging, steaming pile of offal that is cordpt...we all know you're working against O'Donnell

so don’t act now like you support her

What?

cordpt Sunday, September 19th at 7:10PM EST (link)

I support every republican candidate. I’m expecting an apology from you due to your unfunded accusation (or some kind of support for it).

Your ad hominem and childish insult pretty much defines you though.

Un funded accusation?

heh…

Did I just immagine the arguement I had with you the other night about supporting the nominee when you were ranting against O’Donnell?

Or was it shilling for Murkowski that we went round and round about…I don’t remember now…

if I got it wrong…then please accept my sincerest apology.

cordpt- There are others who are tired of the whining about O'Donnell

Scope (Diary) Sunday, September 19th at 6:47PM EST (link)

You may have had enough with people whining about Rove, but, there are others that are tired about Rove just whining about O’Donnell.

You have been pretty clear here about you opinions about O’Donnell. By your comment, you have bought into the Rove idea that those that have supported her, should go to DE and pull O’Donnell across the finish line. It seems that you believe that that can never happen, no matter who gets behind her. I agree that Palin needs to make an appearance, and, as I said, to put her money where her mouth is. From her speech in Ohio, it seems that she plans to do just that. Didn’t see Rove getting off his arse to get to DE to push for Castle.

It seems that you forget that this mid-term is a referendum against Obama, and the Progressives. Should she win simply because she has an R after her name, no way. Can she win against a Democrat candidate, that up until the R primary had not had much to say, or the vetting that O’Donnell has had. Coons has sat back, and, didn’t have to say a thing. He has enjoyed the show of the Republicans doing a destruction job, that he can use in his campaign ads. He will have his “come to Jesus” moment also. The Bearded Marxist, and the 3 tax hikes, despite the promise of no tax hikes, will probably be just the beginning for Coons.

cordpt, is there any chance that you can move away from the O’Donnell campaign, and, go as much on the attack against Coons. Like Rush said, if Rove had gone on the attack against the Democrats, as much as he has with O’Donnell, the country just may be in a different place than it currently is. Wise advice.

You're still whining about Rove

cordpt Sunday, September 19th at 7:08PM EST (link)

Rove is on the attack against Democrats. American Crossroads is the main force behind the campaigns of several conservative candidates all over the country. What are you doing?

It’s time to stop thinking about the primaries. Rove is paid to give his opinion on issues, but what’s your excuse? You seem completely obsessed with O’Donnell and Rove’s opinion on her chances. Let it go. Rove won’t affect O’Donnell’s result. If some keep talking about the primaries, don’t care. Turn the other cheek, there are more important things to worry about. Focus on beating the Democrats and Obama and on donating money and time to the races you think are more important to win or to the candidates you like more, like O’Donnell.

The time to go back and analyse the primaries and hold people responsible for their actions is post the elections.

we'll stop whining about Rove when he shuts his pie whole and attacks Coons instead of the REPUBLICAN NOMINEE nt

Rove is a horse's ass. That's not whining,

Tbone (Diary) Sunday, September 19th at 7:01PM EST (link)

that just a fact. If you are are tired of people whining about Rove, go away. He isn’t running for anything so we don’t have to like him or tolerate your defense of his totally unacceptable behavior.

Envisioning when all that is Left is the Right.

Oh but we DO have to "tolerate him" - Rove that is...

given that he’s the guy who’s been tapped to rescue Sharon Angle. From Politico

A third-party group linked to Rove has been the most aggressive, highest-spending outside force behind Reid’s opponent, Sharron Angle, launching withering attacks that have helped keep the onetime long shot competitive against Reid.

Article paints it a bit personal

mbeck

The article paints Rove’s involvement in Angle’s campaign as settling old scores with Horrible Harry. Interesting in a way, Karl getting a bit of payback on Horrible Harry, which may indicate that Rove is not that invested in Angle’s ideological approach to government.

To describe Rove and Newt today, I believe a term

cactusjack Sunday, September 19th at 9:38PM EST (link)

that was used a lot in their heydays in government circles, but has kind of gone out of circulation today, yet describes them best: they are now “loose cannon.” This does not refer to artillery firing out of sync. It is a nautical term from the age of sail and frigates and ships of the line on the high seas. It refers to what occurred when one of the cannon, tied down in line and placedto shoot through the raised doors of the side of the ship, has its carronade (trolley the cannon sits on) come loose from the ropes and knots that hold it on place on the deck. Thus with every turn and swell of the waves, as the ship rocks, the loose cannon rolls up and down the deck, crushsing feet, bones, binnacles, the deckhouse, etc., tons of metal and wood running wildly in uncontrolled directions. Something that used to be a powerful weapon facing the enemy, now loose doing damage to its own crew and ship. Sometimes loose cannon would end up overboard into the deep blue, and the ship could sail safely on…….hmm……..

Help me understand. . .

How does trashing O’Donnell help the Republican brand? If she is as bad as Rove makes her out to be, won’t she implode in the primary on her own? Why does he feel the need to do the Democrats’ dirty work for them? The Republican good ol’ boys should just ignore her.

She already won the primary

aesthete (Diary) Sunday, September 19th at 7:04PM EST (link)

The concern is that she and her flaws will be made out to be representative of the Tea Party movement as a whole. However, Rove’s comments were counterproductive, nonetheless.

Rove gave us GWB.

tacoslayer (Diary) Sunday, September 19th at 8:08PM EST (link)

Whether you love him or hate him….I think you should respect him.

He has forgotten more about politics than any of us will ever know.
He knows a loser when he sees one.
I think he’s just calling it like he sees it.

And in the end I think he will be proven correct.
O’Donnell is a liability to the GOP’s chances of winning a majority in the Senate.

tacoslayer- I'm calling you on your lack of support of a Republican who won the primary

Scope (Diary) Sunday, September 19th at 9:13PM EST (link)

O’Donnell won the primary, more than fair and square. I do believe that if you still want to trash the winner, you won’t have a long life at RS. Actually, I’m quite surprised that you are still here at all.

You would be well advised to get behind the primary Republican winner, and, argue the Democrat Coons. Other than that, there is nothing more you need to add.

Agreed

powertothepeople (Diary) Sunday, September 19th at 10:07PM EST (link)

win or lose, O’Donnell got rid of a nonsens republican named Castle.

I do not care too much for Fiorna, but I am 100% behind her to retire Babs. Fighting is for the primary, licking wounds and preparing Vicks for a stink preventing nostril jam is day one after the primary, then it is time for unity with one focus, fire as many democrats as possible.

You can call me all you want.....

tacoslayer (Diary) Sunday, September 19th at 10:19PM EST (link)

I wasn’t trashing O’Donnell. I was defending Rove.

The only attacking I’ve seen in this thread has been directed towards the man who was the architect behind the closest thing we ever came to a Republican majority in modern history. Just because he doesn’t like ONE of the latest batch of GOP candidates is no reason to write the man off as “passe”, or a “horse’s ass”.

You would be well advised to come out of the ether. We haven’t really won a thing as of yet. Whether I support her, or you support her, or anyone else supports her, O’Donnell has some flaws. Nothing fatal….but flaws nonetheless. To deny those flaws is weak and silly.

I do think she can win. But it’s going to take a lot of money and a very strong campaign. Avoiding the Sunday morning news shows, Fox News included, only raises more questions.

Since when does a conservative have to avoid Fox News??

Since when does being a Republican require turning a blind eye to the reality of the situation?

I know you, and a few others here, think that you are the judge of all that is conservative. To that all I have to say is, “judge not lest ye be judged”.

Have a nice evening now.
:)

Rove *and* Karen Hughes gave us GWB First Term

cactusjack Sunday, September 19th at 10:34PM EST (link)

and it was relayed to the public through Ari Fleischer. How was the second term different? For one thing, Karen Hughes and Ari Fleischer were gone for all or major parts thereof. GWB himself didnt want to lose Karen and begged her to stay but she left for her own very good reasons (family). I believe Rove filled the vacuum. You do the math…….

kowalski on GWBm it is forgotten now, but one

cactusjack Sunday, September 19th at 10:39PM EST (link)

big advantage he had in 2000, was his “likeability” factor was way way higher than Gore’s. I can’t think of any election in the last century where America elected the more unlikeable candidate. None. It is a peculiar vibe the populace gets on a candidate, completely irrespectigve of their party, wealth, religion or telegenics. That advantage, without which GWB wouldn’t have even gotten the necessary votes to win the EC, was Karen Hughes’ department not Karl Rove’s

As I said in my diary this weekend, “It was enough for me to watch Rove hold the GWB presidency under water until the bubbles stopped as the media yelled “Bush lied! People died!” That wasn’t political incompetence, it was calculated political murder. ”

Karl… the wildly successful hate campaign against GWB can be traced to your strategy of trading the good name of an honorable – if fiscally liberal – president for thirty pieces of silver worth of access to the Washington cocktail party circuit. Do us a favor… go home. Retire. Go play with your grandkids. Just go.

Anytime you have to preface Conservatism...

JadedByPolitics (Diary) Sunday, September 19th at 9:02PM EST (link)

with another word you negate Conservatism as a whole! Karl Rove quite simply is a Rockefeller Republican, WE have all watched these “elites” time and again tell US that there must be unity within the party even if WE do not like the candidate, you know the whole who else you going to vote for, well I think that questioned has been answered in the primaries and Mr. Rove and Co better watch out because these “fringe” candidates are going to United States Senators and Congresspeople in January and he and the rest of the Political Class are going to be sent to the back of the bus!

You know what Jaded

The Democrats, such as Clinton, “there is an insurection within the Republican party, and, Tim Kaine saying, “there is a civil war going on in the Republican party are correct. The idiot Republicans are outraged, simply outraged that the Dems could say such awful things about the Republicans. There is a Civil War, a Coup, an Insurgency, or whatever the D’s want to call it, that really is going on in the Republican party. We are taking back what the Republican party used to stand for. Call it what you will Dems, and, chances you are correct. For once they see the light, just as we have.

What they don't understand

SirGladiator (Diary) Monday, September 20th at 12:03AM EST (link)

Is that when the general public sees a party they dont like (and they clearly dont like either party right now) being taken over by a movement they ‘do’ like, that makes that party MORE popular, not less. So yeah, Dems saying the Republican Party is being taken over by the Tea Party is like saying ‘Vote for the GOP’. Its hilarious how totally out of touch the Dems are with basic reality :) .
