H/T to my friend Howard Tayler for this (from his Facebook page)...

Happy Veterans Day?

"Happy" is not enough ingredients. Veterans Day is a big pot of Thankful, with hands-full of Friendship and a generous scoop of Amazement. A dash of Hope, masks the bitter flavors of Fear and Anger. There's some Pride in there, too, but its flavor is offset by the Humility running through the whole dish. It's quite the recipe. It doesn't have happy in it. It MAKES happy.

This is a special day to me. I'm a vet. I served from 89-92. First woman in my family to serve. I was an okay soldier ( knew how to work but hated to run). My maternal grandfather died in WWII at Leyte Gulf and all of his brothers served in different theaters.
On my way to work this morning going north on IH35 (Iwas almost in tears) a dj on 102.3 read the following:

"It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag."
The passage above was written by a military chaplain. It serves as a reminder for all of us on Remembrance Day
