A Salute To The Veterans – Open Thread

Today is Veterans Day. It was all of the battles they’ve fought, and all of the sacrifices they had to make, that allows America to be the land for freedom for all people, the example that other nations can follow if they want their people to be as free; the land of the free. And for the veterans, we acknowledge that this is their home, the home of the brave, the home of our brave warriors.

We thank you and salute you.

And a belated 234-year old birthday shout-out to the United States Marine Corps!!!

(My apologies for being late.)

This is why we remember our vets.

TxTess (Diary) Wednesday, November 11th at 9:56AM EST (link)

This is a special day to me. I’m a vet. I served from 89-92. First woman in my family to serve. I was an okay soldier ( knew how to work but hated to run). My maternal grandfather died in WWII at Leyte Gulf and all of his brothers served in different theaters.
On my way to work this morning going north on IH35 (Iwas almost in tears) a dj on 102.3 read the following:

“It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.”
The passage above was written by a military chaplain. It serves as a reminder for all of us on Remembrance Day

That is a great passage. Thanks for sharing it.

A just war leads to a just peace and freedom. An unjust peace leads to death.

Happy Veterans Day?

H/T to my friend Howard Tayler for this (from his Facebook page)…

Happy Veterans Day?

“Happy” is not enough ingredients. Veterans Day is a big pot of Thankful, with hands-full of Friendship and a generous scoop of Amazement. A dash of Hope, masks the bitter flavors of Fear and Anger. There’s some Pride in there, too, but its flavor is offset by the Humility running through the whole dish. It’s quite the recipe. It doesn’t have happy in it. It MAKES happy.

“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
