Governor Rick Scott and Congressman Ron DeSantis have easily won their Republican primary races to be Florida’s next Senator and Governor, respectively.
Fox News announced the results just a few minutes after 8:00 pm ET, after the final polls closed in the Panhandle, which is on Central Time. The AP has also confirmed this result.
Scott will go on to face incumbent Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) for the general. The Democratic primary for Governor remains to be settled but either former Congresswoman Gwen Graham — herself the daughter of former Florida Governor Bob Graham — or Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum are expected to win.
Both Scott and DeSantis were endorsed by President Donald Trump and polls showed that to be an advantage among Florida Republican primary voters.
[This post has been updated after Gillum surged in several South Florida counties.]
