I have heard so many people say that this “Health Care Reform Bill” is a great thing. What they have not stopped to consider is the essential liberties that are being stripped from them via this monstorous piece of legislation. Here are just a few examples that have been pointed out.

Section 1501 says that no matter what, you are going to buy health insurance. If you are as healthy as a horse, have a regular check up every year, eat right, don’t drink and don’t smoke, oh well. You WILL buy the health insurance that Obama, Pelosi and Reid tell you that you will buy. If not, you will pay a fine. Not only will you pay a fine but you will pay it to the IRS. Freedom lost? I would say a resounding “YES”.

Do you want to buy a policy that rewards you for eating right and exercising, not smoking, not drinking and not taking unecessary risks? Tough cookies! Section 2701 of the bill says that you WILL pay the same amount for a policy as the guys who eats fried chicken, and Double Whoppers with cheese, smokes a pack a day and drinks a 12 pack of Bud everyday. No matter that you are a lower risk than that guy. You still pay the same! Freedom lost? I would say a resounding “YES”.

Did you find a health care plan that offers lower premiums with limits on coverage? You can’t buy it!!! Section 2711 of the bill says that insurance companies can not offer plans like this anymore. They can no longer limit the amount of coverage per year or per lifetime. Freedom lost? I think that would also be a yes.

You can’t even buy a policy that does not include maternity or pediatric care if you are a single man or woman with no kids. Hell, if you can’t have kids, that doesn’t matter either. Obama, Pelosi and Reid have said that you have to have that coverage so guess what. You will have it and you will PAY for it (Section 1302) or you will get fined. Freedom lost? I would say that this one is a yes too!

I hope that the people in our country will open their eyes and see what is going on in Washington before it is too late. The foundation of this country is gradually being eroded and it seems that the citizenry is standing by and letting it happen.

I have been witness to 2 embarrassing events this week. These 2 events are not just embarrassing for their content, they are embarrassing because the people who have been a part of them are supposed to be the “best and brightest” and patriotic Americans. These 2 events shed a lot of light on the appeasement attitudes that are present in our country! They also shed light on the hatred that some people seem to have for America both at home and abroad.

The first event that I was a witness to was the “War on Drugs Conference” that was held this week in El Paso. As a resident of El Paso, I am very familiar with the drug violence that is going on just across the border in Juarez, Mexico. There have been over 1800 cartel related murders in Juarez this year alone. The Mexican military has been in Juarez for months now and it has not gotten any better and the worst part is that according to this conference it is all our fault.

As you can imagine, most of the people who attended this conference are old hippies from the 60′s who now put on tweed jackets and claim to be college professors. They hate America and love their herb. One of them is a professor of Sociology (what are the chances) from Rice by the name of William Martin. According to Professor Martin, all that we have to do to stop the drug war and hurt the cartels is to legalize Pot in America. The reason is that America’s thirst for drugs is what is driving the cartel war. There are no other countries that use drugs. Just America. Only the USA. No other countries use drugs, sell drugs or manufacture drugs. If we just legalize pot in America, all of the problems will go away.

A position like this simply blows me away. Why does it always seem that it is the fault of Americans that other people in other countries break the law? Cartels are killing each other for territory in Mexico and it is our fault. The Mexican government is corrupt and in bed with the cartels and it is our fault. Half of the Juarez police force was replaced because of the fact that they were working for the cartel and it is our fault. When are these people going to start taking responsibility for their own problems. I live in El Paso which is one of the safest cities in America. We have had 13 murders to date in a city of over 750,000 people of which only a few were cartel related. If this drug war was our fault, then it would seem to me that El Paso would be as deep into this situation as Juarez is.

Now the second disgusting display that I saw this week was the blame America tour that our President was conducting at the United Nations. Once again, he has a habit of getting in front of world leaders and rogue dictators and spewing his trash about how bad America is and how he is going to fundamentally change our country. This time he not only bashed the US but he ran the country of Israel down into the ground calling their new settlements unacceptable and basically reaffirming his earlier statements from his whirlwind tour of the Islamic countires of the Middle East.

Exactly when did it become chic for the leader of the free world to bash his own country? When did it become acceptable for him to turn his back on our closest allies and put them down to the world while reaching his hand out to thugs and dictators the likes of Ahmadinejhad and Kim Jong Il? What is happening to my country? What is happening to our country? What is happening to the Shining City on the Hill that everyone admired??? The only conclusion that I can come to is that Barack Obama is remaking America from the aforementioned image of the Shining City to the Arm Pit of the World. That is the way that I feel that he views our country and now he is trying to make sure the rest of the world views our great country that way!

I urge all Texas conservatives to visit his website and learn more about this fine individual. His website is www.williamsfortexas.com.

I am 39 years old and got into politics at a fairly young age. I was tremendously inspired by President Ronald Reagan as an 11 year old that watched his inauguration. I am a conservative and have been for all of my life. That is how I was raised and that is how I view the world now; as a conservative.

I was also raised to respect people for who they are. I was raised to look beyond race and get to the “content of their character” as Dr. King said. That brings me to my point and a point shared by many conservatives and that is that it was inevitable that the race card would be played by the liberals that control Washington. The reason; they are losing the debate.

For example, the “Stimulus Package” that they so hastily passed has been a failure. Unemployment is at 9.7% which is a gross understatement of actual numbers, no roads or bridges are being built, consumer confidence is still at an all time low and some economists are predicting a double dip recession that will cripple our country. They have not learned anything from Japan’s lost decade of stimulus upon stimulus with no result. Polls show that American taxpayers want the stimulus money to be returned to the people instead of being spent.

Another example is the cap and trade bill that barely passed the House. This bill is the largest tax increase in US history and quite possibly in the history of the world. The American people started looking at this and took action. They lit up switch boards at the capital, flooded e-mails and took down phonelines. The bill still passed but many on Capital Hill took notice. The bill has been postponed in the Senate and hopefully will die in committee.

Finally there is health care “reform” and I use that term loosely. Nancy Pelosi and here ilk tried to push a biil through at the direction of President Obama. People started reading the bill. They found out about the details and they started to speak out. They spoke out in town hall meetings, letters to the editor, calls to Congress, e-mails to their Congressmen. They marched in protest. They had “tea parties”. They marched on Washington on 9/12. For all of that they were called some pretty ridiculous things but not racist.

After all of this, the Democrats realized that they were losing the debate and the American people. They pulled out the big gun and he went on the offensive. This was in preparation for their next assault. That assault was the race card that is now being played. If you disagree with your congressman then you are a “right wing extremeist” or “unAmerican” but if you disagree with the president you are a racist. Why are any of us Conservatives surprised by this, really??? They have done it so many times before.

There are examples of this from Mike Dukakis and the Willie Horton scandal that they tried to make a racist issue to last year’s presidential campaign where the media said that racism was the only reason that Obama would not win the election. We should be accustomed to the race card being played aginst us when they are losing the debate. That is what the left does. They are obsessed with race and this goes a long way to prove that fact.
