Palin resigned. Did you hear the news? No? Well, where the hell’ve you been, Skippy? Clearly not here at RedState. Sanford screwed up. Probably heard about that, too. But in all the hubbub and handwringing going on regarding 2012 here in RedState, we’re quickly losing focus of something far more pressing: It’s only 2009.

We have a HUGE game still to play, and it’s way too early to start talking about the end of the season. The 2010 election is vital. Not just, “say, you know, it would be super-duper if we got some Republicans in the Legislature again.” No. Vital. As in, “Say, if we don’t get some Conservatives on the Hill in 2010, we can pretty much wave a sad farewell to the Country we know and love.”

Am I overstating the case? Obama runs GM. The House passed a giant enviro-bill that will create new regs and costs for everybody from the “big bad corporations” to the working guy trying to buy a pack of smokes. There are healthcare plans on the docket right now which will effectively gut our current system and pave the way for a single-payer system. Like Canada, but run by the geniuses who brought you Walter Reed. And that’s all inside the First Year. Overstating my case? Sure. How’s that sand taste?

We have one thing we need to focus on right now. One. Putting Conservatives into the Legislature. That’s it. That’s the game we’re playing. Not the 2012 election. We don’t even have a player list for that one. I don’t know who’s going to run in 2012, and I don’t give a damn — and neither should you. Because it is a distraction, and only a distraction.

We have enough problems for 2010 without everybody starting the infighting and loss of focus over Palin, Sanford or whoever else you wanted to draft for the POTUS campaign. This is the one that matters. Here. Now. Get your damned head in the game, or step off the field.

One reason I visit RedState instead of Race42012 is because we don’t suffer fools lightly here. We need to focus on the steaming pile of you know what that Obama is trying to shovel down our throats. Right now it is more important to pay attention to Cap and Trade, ObamaCare, EFCA, and the junk they want to do to public education. This takes priority over any debates over who is nominated for the 2012 election.

The Mayan calendar supposedly ends (or flips) on December 21, 2012. Thus, there will be a 2012 election, but no inauguration

I do fear that the deficit spending, inflation, increasing taxes, N. Korea, Iran’s imminent nukes and the fact that Jack Bauer has questioned his use of torture may make it difficult for us to have a recognizable U.S. of A. by that time.

Governor Palin is a capable woman. I’m sure she has some plan that she’s carrying out. And God bless her with that plan, because the Democrats are way too far on the left, their non-stimulus-stimulus, bailouts, and nationalizations are destroying the economy, and they need a charismatic national voice to hammer them on it.

I hope Ms. Palin can be that voice that can cut through the conspiracy of silence in the media.

Palin’s out, so it’s time to stop thinking about her. Right now, she’s decided she doesn’t want to be part of the political process, so let’s stop trying to bring her back in!

We’ve *got* to put the blinders on and set our sights on 2010. The upcoming midterms are THE. ONLY. THING. we should be thinking about right now, and as mbecker said above, this utterly pointless fretting over the resignation of Palin and the effect it will have on the ’12 race is a dangerous preoccupation.

People need to realize that the Left wants us to get distracted like this. Stop giving Democrats what they want, or there will be no doubt that 2010 is lost for us.

She flat out said today that she will be helping conservative candidates campaign (and thus raise money) all over the country. Since she is BY FAR our most valuable commodity at this point, that is precisely what we need FOR 2012!! So why are so many conservatives bashing her? Just makes no sense to me. Make sure everyone knows DEMS are giving us crap and tax, more costly healthcare, allowing rogue countries to get stronger etc….this must hang on their heads only.

We failed to make people aware that DEMS had the checkbook already since ’06 and we got smacked for it this last election.

IMHO Palin can reach and engage an important audience that REPS need. Although I don’t think she is POTUS material(but head and shoulders above Zero), she could be an important part of reinvigorating the party.
