I am working on a column that fully explains my position on the word “racism” vs the statements and behaviors that may define it. What matters most is the statements and acts themselves, not semantics and too bad for Soto and Obama that Soto’s statement is so succinct and vile. It hurts her every time its repeated, no matter if it is in the context of “news” on Rush/Newt and debate about them rather than her.

What people hear is her vile statement and even libs cringe when they hear it. Libs don’t like to get passed over based on race either!

I don’t consider calling a racist statement what it is. I do usually hesitate to call a person racist except in extreme cases, which I think this one is, so I don’t have a problem with Rush and Newt and I don’t have a problem with Graham and Sessions refraining from that using that word.

You’re right that nobody HERE thinks race is the issue. But the Republican leadership didn’t get the memo.

We — AND the GOP leadership — need to be hitting the points we’ve all mentioned above: SoSo’s (I love that abbreviation, 6eorgeJ) and Barry’s total disregard for equal justice.

Randy – We all agree being hung up on Race isn’t the issue… It is the overall disregard for EQUAL JUSTICE! Her RACIST comments (demonstrates part of her disregard of it) are part of “that” overall context by which we oppose/object to her.

Randy, is the MSM playing Rush comments out of context part of the genesis?

Most Americans, even liberals, hate that kind of talk and esp hate the whole idea of not being rewarded for hard work, like the Ricci firefighters.

But I have also argued here that what matters most is what people do. I know many people that use the n word for example but that hire blacks and latinos and have many such friends. Yet, I know many people that would think the n-word was the worst thing in the world that have never hired blacks or had black friends of any depth and who really look upon minorities as inferior.

One thing I came to loathe about the dem party before I left it was its race based policies, no matter the motive.

That said, Obama and Sotomayor have ACTED on their racism. Obama with the Justice Dept dropping of the election intimidation case and Soto on Ricci.

We don’t lose the other error she makes that most all liberals share by highlighting the race remark, especially from a political standpoint because most liberals don’t appreciate racism of this kind at all, esp when one couples it with the Ricci case.

The left knows this statement is toxic, hence the Gibbs and then Obama walk back FRIDAY interview on network TV.

If her statement isn’t blatant racism, of the classic superiority kind, then it would be hard to construct one other than to sat: “I think latinas are superior to white men.” and even then, they could holler context.

I agree with you m2oneson, I think it is often an element of class envy behind race issues. What people don’t understand is that never in any society are all people equal. No matter how many strata you have or the numbers in each group. For whatever reason, groups always differentiate within themselves, as well as without.

Unique to our country has been the concept of equal opportunity vs. equal outcome. And yes there has not always been equal opportunity, but that is what the laws are about. If someone like Sotomayor makes decisions not on the law, she actually harms all parties. If a law is not right, then we have a system in place to change the law, but liberal activism is going around our modern day process. In our current climate, the only ideas that seem acceptable are those from liberal whites and minorities. That is unlawful discrimination toward minorities and whites who are of a different political persuasion. Unfortunately, that is what is occurring with activist judges. She is an activist first and a judge second.
