In what surely will go down in history as the stupidest meaningless gesture of all time, the Milwaukee Brewers’ Class-A minor league team — the Brevard County Manatees — has just announced that they will no longer conduct batting practice.

Batting Practice. BP. Get it?

The Manatees have banished Batting Practice from their lexicon in order to show that they are "deeply concerned and hurt by the disaster on the Gulf Coast."

At least until they figure out that people are laughing at them, the Manatees will henceforth be holding hitting rehearsals.

I am not making this up.

The lone comment they have gotten so far on their website — and I swear it wasn’t me — suggests that if the Manatees wish to show concern they should forfeit a game or two so they can go help clean up the beach.
