First, I am pleased to call Tom Coburn MY senator. I was fortunate enough to vote for Sen. Coburn when he won the Republican primary in in 2004 in a 3-way race, despite being signifcantly out-spent. He defeated 2 centrist Republicans and then won the election in a walk. It is a matter of fact that he will be reelected this year. There is no viable opposition to him. So, I’m not sure what the purpose of this post is, but it is obvious you are not well informed.

I listened to the audio that your post refers. Sen. Coburn was stating what he believed, i.e., the people that we fight against are not Satan incarnate and are often well-intentioned people. However, he wouldn’t hesitate to tell you that the road to hell is paved with good intentions either. Senator Coburn will not hesitate to tell you that he considers Barack Obama to be a personal friend. He will also not hesitate to tell you that President Obama is leading us down a horrible path.

Think back over the last 5-6 years. How many times has Sen. Coburn been the lone vote or the lone senator putting a hold on particular bill or nomination? We would be a better country indeed if we had 5 more Coburns in the Senate.

I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, but you really sound like a complete idiot. Oh, heck, go ahead. Take it the wrong way.

I’d say Coburn is very conservative.

The fact that Coburn doesn’t want to hang Pelosi doesn’t make him a bad conservative. It’s not like he offered to give in on some key issue. Coburn has been firm on repeal.

He also cautioned his constituents not to take everything you hear on FOX as gospel and he’s right. As example there is nothing in the FINAL health care bill that will send people to prison for not buying insurance but FOX keeps repeating the “go to prison” line nearly every night. We do want to be right about things, don’t we?

Republicans aren’t going to get anywhere howling for the head of people like Coburn. We do want to take over Congress, don’t we?

So a Conservative can’t call someone on the other side a nice person? I’m sure she is nice until she gets to business, but her is business isn’t quite the ours. That doesn’t make her someone that isn’t nice though.

Coburn may have a conservative record, but so does Lindsey Graham and Bob Inglis. Coburn sounded like a liberal and his comments are embarassing. The guy is now a typical wimp Republican like Mitch McConnell. I want a fighter like DeMint and Bachmann. Nancy Pelosi is a nice lady, really Coburn.

Complementing Nancy Pelosi as “a nice person” is akin to describing the food as warm to the executive chef of a 5-star restaurant.

I am more concerned about his inarticulate comments regarding Fox News. They indicate that he either has no sense to tell opinion from reporting (if he meant what he said); or, far more likely, that he’s willing to debate outside of the facts in order to appear “reasonable” to liberals. Neither option speaks well for him on this particular manner.

He’s still a solid, stand-up guy, but it is correct to hold him accountable.

that politician needs to be perceived as being a likeable person who gets a long with people on a personal level. That way, any disagreements are attributable to policy.

Otherwise, you will lose a portion of the electorate for purely non-substantive reasons.

If Newt Gingrich* could have come across more like Coburn, Newt could have been President by now. Likeability matters!

*Not saying that Newt in his present manifestation is particularly conservative like he was in the 90s.

Coburn voted for TARP and is no fiscal conservative after that. Tom Coburn should be tossed in 2010. He is typical crappy republican. Coburn is no fiscal conservative and no republican that voted for TARP can be considered a Conservative. Vote this clown out. I hate Brad Henry! If it was not for Fox News, Obama and the Democrats would be riding high and Coburn would be a target in a competitive race against Henry. Activists Taking Action: Unified Patriots

For months I have been reading posts blasting McConnell for being a mealy mouthed doo doo head. He plays too nice with Democrats. He’s not fighting to win! Replace McConnell! etc. etc.

So I asked, who would make a better Minority Leader? Demint and Coburn they said. I expressed doubts that either was seriously interested. You see, whipping and parliamentary leadership require a different skill than full throated conservative advocacy.

I am now convinced that Coburn is positioning for a run for Minority Leader. Anyone think that his doo doo is good enough for the job?

When I was still working as a Republican appointee or for the Republicans in the Legislature, I had pretty much zero social intercourse with either Democrats or union reps and almost non of the other Republicans did either. Juneau is as segregated politically as my hometown in rural Georgia was raciallly segregated in the ’50s. Democrats have their bars, restaurants, social events, etc. and Republicans have theirs and almost never do the twain meet.

Any interaction is strictly related to work in things that both have to go to or do. That is actually the beauty of both the political system we have and of the collective bargaining system; the structures are in place to allow people who absolutely HATE each other to get their work done.

That said, as I said above, I don’t care that he called her a nice lady; I used to lie like that all the time, came with the job.

Just the kind of idiocy that I have been railing about here for months. Just what the HELL qualifies as sufficiently conservative for you? A freaking 100% ACU rating?
