25 Years Since 1984 – How Are We Doing?
George Orwell‘s classic book “1984“ is the story of one man’s pursuit of individuality while living in a totalitarian nightmare: a world dominated by Big Brother, “The Party“, and the Thought Police. If you read the book several years ago, read it again. You will be shocked at the parallels that you can now draw between the book and recent news.

Ironically, America now has a population of 300 million. And any of those 300 million who are not “thinking the same thoughts“ as the Obama administration are labeled as:

And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it. Parsons swallowed it easily, with the stupidity of an animal. “ Pg 58

Hurray! The chocolate ration has been “raised“ to 20 grams!

The Pursuit of Raw Power

“The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake…Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness; only power, pure power…We are different from all the oligarchies of the past…The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never that the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they seized power unwillingly and for a limited time…We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it.” Pg 263

Just as reflected in “1984″, this current administration:
- Seems to place a minimal emphasis on wealth-building (they appear less avaricious and less tempted by luxury)
- But is hungrier for pure power (as evidenced by the government take-over of financial institutions, the auto industry, and an attempt at the health care industry)
- And appears to be intent on crushing the opposition (watch the vicious attacks on those who disagree with this administration)
The Youth

“It was almost normal for people over thirty to be frightened of their own children. And with good reason, for hardly a week passed in which the Times did not carry a paragraph describing how some eavesdropping little sneak - “child hero” was the phrase generally used - had overheard some compromising remark and denounced his parents to the Thought Police. “ Pg 24

Let‘s remember the incredible spectacle of the White House website calling for people to inform on their friends and family. Obama actually wanted the email address of anyone who was believed to be spreading “dis-information“ on health care.

“With those children, he thought, that wretched woman must lead a life of terror. Another year, two years, and they would be watching her night and day for symptoms of unorthodoxy. .. the worship of Big Brother - it was all a sort of glorious game to them. All their ferocity was turned outwards, against the enemies of the State, against foreigners, traitors, saboteurs, thought-criminals.” Pg 24

Obama’s nationwide address to students initially included lesson plans which encouraged students to “write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president.“

“The only recognized purpose of marriage was to beget children for service of the Party…There were even organizations such as the Junior Anti-Sex League which advocated complete celibacy for both sexes. The memory of 9/11 has already begun to fade, thanks to our government re-defining it as a “National Day of Service and Remembrance“.

It is the responsibility of every American citizen to ensure that this statement doesn‘t become a reality.

Read the book and highlight passages that are concerning or seem vaguely familiar. Be aware as you watch current events unfold, and most likely you will begin to see parallels. Americans must stop this Orwellian nightmare from taking root in our country. And we must act before it’s too late. Subjecting our children a future of unimaginable horror, as depicted in this book, is unconscionable.
