Great Benefits Redux

Great Benefits was a fictitious evil insurance company created by John Girsham for use as an antagonist corporation in a novel. It rejected all claims the first time they were submitted without reading them to save money on payouts. Eventually, they got theirs and truth, justice and the liberal way won out. Guess who most resembles Great Benefits Inc. in real life?

Did you guess Medicare? Their rejection rate of 6.85% of all line items submitted is higher than any major private insurer. Now unlike Tom Carper and John Conyers, Medicare employees may at least read before they make a decision. However, anyone who thinks Government insurance will somehow be nicer or more understanding than Aetna should stick that one in their pipe and smoke it.
