What Jindal said was fantastic. The packaging, the technical management (and yes, multiple people should be fired, then hung by their thumbs and beaten with barbed wire), etc, etc, stunk. Stunk like a week-old pile of raw mackerel carcasses.
But you know what matters to me? What he freaking SAID. And any of us RedStaters who doubts what he means is soft in the head.
His star is unmistakably on the rise. This effort, while flawed, STILL served notice that a new wind is blowing in Gondor. Republicans are changing their tune, changing their message, and changing their strategy. Today was not the day to march on Mordor. Right now is a time for retooling, forging, training, recruiting, building.
I don’t give a hoot what they think today in Mordor about Jindal’s flat speech. I really don’t. And just for today, I don’t care if the Treason Media and the stupid masses just ate up that Obama rainbow-and-butterfly pie. Because Gondor is stirring, and Mordor does not in fact own a “one ring”.
In 21 months, Mordor falls.

Rod_Patrick (Diary) Wednesday, February 25th at 9:25AM EST (link)Admit it that the delivery was not so great.
But I really liked the message.
Now that I think of it…. I find Jindal’s speech more fitting.
It’s really an honest (no-hype) response to Obama.
At least, the Dems/Libs cannot argue that Jindal was just making a political posturing as a potential POTUS candidate.

His delivery
GOP84 (Diary) Wednesday, February 25th at 11:42AM EST (link)His delivery was awful. Don’t get me wrong. I love Bobby Jindal. I liked what he said and I think he’s a wonderful governor. But his delivery reminded of those documentary voices you hear at a museum exhibit when you push a button.
I think Bobby Jindal is a great guy and he will be a tremendous asset to our party in the years to come. But he’s just not ready for prime time yet. Emphasis on yet.
I didn't see it live
sdan (Diary) Wednesday, February 25th at 12:11PM EST (link)was at Mardi Gras yesterday and my computers speakers broke so I had to read the texts of both speeches. I can’t say I got any new information from Obama except when he talked about using the full force of government on the banks. That actually scared me silly.
Bobby’s speech was good in the text I guess because I didn’t hear the delivery. Besides I would rather have results then talk which is all the new president seems to do. Bobby has gotten some good results here in Louisiana so far.
Jindal Needs To Drop The "Bobby" and Eay Some More Jambalaya
Swamp_Yankee (Diary) Wednesday, February 25th at 1:05PM EST (link)I didnt think his speech was flat. That appears to be the main criticism, but he had no audience, no back drop. Of course it looks flat next to Obama in Congress.
His content was okay, but he wasted too much time on Obama, anecdotes and mush.
I think his biggest problem is his presence. A combination of size, youth and inexperience. He doenst even look like he fits in his suits. And going by the name Bobby kind of piles on what may be his biggest liability – his youthful ands dimunitive image. He should go by Bob opr Robert or something. And eat, eat, eat, He lives in New Orleans. Soembody fatten him up. He has the body of a seventeen year old vegan.
He is a good governor and seems to be a good
indym (Diary) Thursday, February 26th at 1:19AM EST (link)guy. Our brilliant republican leaders Boehner and McConnell put him out there. Following a joint session of congress led by a new President with high approval ratings and who lives for the momemt, a republican party with low approval ratings and an enabling media behind the new President would make it impossible for even Ronald Reagan to do well. Jindal did fine. But it should have been someone from the Senate or the house to give the response not a comer like Jindal. The real question now is can Jindal take the heat.
Maybe it was the perfect delivery for Jindal
6eorge Jetson (Diary) Thursday, February 26th at 3:03AM EST (link)The eventual 2012 Republican candidate, be it Jindal, Palin, or someone who’s star has yet to soar, is not going to win or lose the general election in 2009.
In fact, let’s recall how Obama used the slingshot to near perfection versus Hillary.
As long as Obama was this intriguing runner-up to Hillary, he got the kid gloves treatment from the presumed nominee Hillary and her supporters. It wasn’t until, say February 2008 (feel free to correct my timeline if it’s off by a month or two), that he became the favorite and fair game for Hillary. But despite her ferocious “fourth quarter” comeback, it was too late.
My point is not that there is an exact parallel here in terms of degree, but rather that it’s difficult to be the front runner wearing the painted bullseye for a long period of time. If Hillary could hit a “reset the world” button (affecting everyone’s memory but her own) to, say, mid 2007, I would bet she could win. She really, really blew the timing, allowing Obama to slingshot past her at a late enough stage that she couldn’t catch up.
This is our best hope, IMO
Steven Willis (Diary) Thursday, February 26th at 5:15AM EST (link)Jindal is a very good speaker when live before an audience.
In person, he is very personable.
That said, this is the second time I’ve seen him with a poor background, sound, lighting and other trappings. But, we have plenty of time to work on such peripheral matters.
He is bright, sensible, and has (and will have) real experience.
He is Bobby and he is thin. I do not believe he should become someone he is not. Sarah was best as Sarah before some Obama plant in the McCain campaign dressed her up.
As I see it, Jindal/Palin can win in 2012. Bobby needs to be Bobby and have someone work on logistics. Sarah needs to beef up on travel and technical issues (she was hit so hard on this and her image is so bad, she needs it even for appearances sake).

Scope (Diary) Thursday, February 26th at 11:41AM EST (link)I have been saying for days that the Conservatives must stop eating their own, so to speak. My biggest complaint against Fred Thompson was the fact that he should have gotten in the race alot sooner. By the time he did, the Democrats had painted the picture of him as lazy, uninspiring, an old white guy, a lackluster speaker and on and on. Unfortunately, many many Conservatives bought into the phony stories, and started their own manta against him. Thompson was attacked because in his first few speeches, one in California if I remember correctly, he “wasn’t a good speaker.” His own ate him up and then spit him out under the bus. I can see the exact same thing happening now with Jindal. The Liberal media will go after him every bit as bad and as much as they have gone after Palin. It’s right for the Conservatives to go after the setting he was put in, it’s right to say that he was speaking right after Obama who had all the props and advantages that come with the Presidency, it’s right to point out that he didn’t have a sea of adoring faces and loud applause. It is not right for any Conservatives to knock, ridicule, disparage and demean him because he didn’t come across as one of the greatest orators. It should only matter what his record is and will be, what he believes is the best for the Republican Party, that he is honest in what he says and does, and that he walks the walk, and doesn’t just talk the talk. Those so-called Conservatives/Republicans that put more emphasis on his looks and how he says what he says will never allow the Republicans to ever again win any elections simply because the 100% perfect person doesn’t exist. Think for a minute about Specter, Snowe and Collins, then come back and say you have a right to complain and bitch about Bobby Jindal. Just keep throwing what may be some of the best the party has seen in years under the bus. Just keep giving the Democrats fuel fo the fire.
EPU you are so very correct-
