When was the last time you heard anyone in the Republican Congressional Leadership mention repealing OBAMACARE? As unpopular as Obamacare is, the Republicans could be scoring lay up after lay up on this one issue alone. Instead they simply have forgotten about it or talk about amending it. They should introduce bills to repeal it on a constant basis not talk about conservative adjustments to it. If it isn’t exceedingly obvious by now that they are not going to seriously try to repeal it should be. The only way they will do anything is if they feel their base will not show up at the voting booths in NOV and right now they are very confident the base will be there.

What is going to take for Republicans to realize that our leadership sold us out a long time ago.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this and believe me I understand the multitude of problems for a third party in our two party system, but how can it be any worse? Yes, the Republicans might win in November perhaps even take both houses, though the Senate will likely take until 2012. But what does that get us? Boehner, McConnell, Cantor, McCain? I mean these guys were horrible when they were in power and they have been totally bulldozed by the far left since the election-they couldn’t even stop a deeply unpopular entitlement bill like Obamacare. Can you truthfully say any of these people are small government conservatives?

In other words they failed as leaders, they failed in opposition, why in the world would we want to put them back into power? So that they can spend like they did under Bush? We need a party that understands and believes in the founding principles of this great country. We don’t need a party who goes along to get along. We need a party with leaders who are not afraid to say “NO.” Not leaders who seemed more interested in slowing down statism, rather than halting it in its tracks.

It is time to stop thinking about who is the “less worse” and come up with an alternative that is actually good.

I may have missed it, but I have not seen any stories about how the Democrats (that includes many Rinos) propose to check whether or not someone has health insurance. However they do it. It will be intrusive. I think this is a key aspect of the whole debate that is being ignored. I mean are they going to have the IRS check? Will it be the small business owner? Are they going to have the health professionals check? Are they going to stand-up some new organization to check that everyone has health insurance? Who is going to levy the fines? The police? The court systems? How are they going to keep records?

What if you don’t pay? Who is going to say how much money you make? Is the IRS going to share info with the health professionals?

I could go on and on but you get the point.

There are many things this administration has done which I have found egregious, the GM and Chrysler takeovers (thefts), the (soft) treatment of terrorists, and that idiotic Porkulus bill come to mind quickly. There are many others, but I won’t list them here.

However, nothing comes close to the level of disgust I have for Obama’s (Cinco de quatro’s) policy towards the current situation in Iran. Especially in light of his willingness to meddle on the side of the Mullahs and their thug allies (minders?) in the Revolutionary Guard and his willingness to directly meddle in Israel’s affairs on the side of the Palestinians.

Claiming the United States’s past history of meddling has been detrimental may have had a modicum of validity if he hadn’t gone out of his way on several occasions in the last few months to meddle in Iran on the side of the Mullahs. Especially recently, when he gave the green light to develop a nuclear program to a nation awash in oil, but admittedly bereft of oil refining capability.

For me he has lost all sense of the moral high ground for the rest of his presidency. For the life of me I cannot fathom why our country is not standing firmly with the people on the streets calling for democracy.

One Chicago pol is already out. A second looks like he is on his way? Can we be so lucky as to have a third corrupt Chicago pol resign? Heck the second one is probably going to resign over some low five figure corruption. While we know that more than $300K was involved in the third one’s dealing with a convicted criminal.

There is also the possibility that a chief of staff (also from Chicago) will also be ousted once all of the information (if it ever does) comes out about Blago.

I hate what this would do to the country, not least of which would be President Neil Kinnock, but I hate more that we have an openly corrupt individual lecturing us on ethics.

With the news that Mary Jo’s killer was returning home to his sickbed, all we need to do is one more no vote. Presuming of course that Harry tReidson cannot convince another Republican to vote for this horrible bill. And the news that Sen Gregg has come back to the Senate increasing the pressure on the three stooges (Snowe, Specter and Collins, I have a forlorn hope that one of the three would come to their senses and vote Nay. Can you imagine the bedlam that would erupt. Maybe we could actually get a bill that would do something for the economy. I’m not sure we need one, but the political reality is a bill is coming and I would much rather have a true stimulus bill than this one.

Whichever of the three would be something of a hero to the right; albeit a tainted one since he/she had agreed to the monstrosity in the first place. That person would also be deeply hated by the left.

If one of the three stooges votes nay early in the voting, there is a chance that one other Republican can be convinced to yes, but he/she would be an anathema. Also an early nay vote by one the stooges, may causse the other two to vote nay also since they would be voting for a losing bill at great political cost.

I’d love to see the look on Harry tReidson’s face if one of the three voted nay at the very end of voting or even better changed their vote to nay.

I’m hoping that Sen Gregg does nothing else until the actual end of the vote except trying to convince one of the three stooges to see the light.

If I understand the negotiations correctly, Senator Collins and other moderate Republicans are negotiating reducing the size of the generational theft package from 900+ Billion to 800 Billion or so. That is the equivalent of eight shots to the head instead of nine. So I just wanted to say thank you to Senator Collins for saving us from that one head shot.

I don’t think this is going to happen, but it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if it did. I give it a 10% chance at most. I’m sure there are many in the Obama camp who wish he/they hadn’t picked Biden who is the very antithesis of change, when change is your central theme, especially a guy who hoped to finish FOURTH in Iowa. The pick looks exceptionally bad with McCain’s pick of the electrifying Sarah Palin.

Several things would have to happen for this succeed-here are just some of them 1) Biden would have to agree to it, unlikely since he reportedly campaigned so hard to the VP pick. 2) They would have to keep it ultra-secret, even one Biden guy spilling the beans would be disastrous 3) They would have to come up with something that passes the smell test whenever one will be very suspicious of this happening. 4) It would have to be something that is new, lack of proper vetting charges would quickly prop up if it was something old or easily detectable. 5) Hillary would have to pre-agree to the whole thing, doesn’t do them a damn bit of good to dump Biden for Hillary when she doesn’t want it. 6) They would have to keep Bill Clinton’s mouth shut about it. 7) They would have to find at least a couple of doctors willing to collude on this and it will look very suspicious if it is not Biden’s regular doctor(s) or the doctors at Bethesda.

I’m not even remotely wishing ill health on Joe Biden. I’m just pointing out this is not outside the realm of possibility.

Despite quite a bit of speculation that she would be a good pick beforehand, Democrats claimed that McCain picked Palin at the last minute as an act of desperation, even some on the right characterize it as a Hail Mary pass.

As I argued before his pick, McCain was actually going to win whoever he chose and that he should make an unconventional pick to help the party in the long run.
I looked first to Bobby Jindal, but Sarah Palin was also on my list. In the last two weeks, both of these two have proven that they are going to be forces to be reckoned with on the national scene for some time to come.

I can easily see a Palin/Jindal ticket in 2016, perhaps even in 2012.

Bottomline- John McCain by picking Sarah Palin did something absolutely fantastic for the future of the Republican party. No longer will we be easily categorized as that bunch of old/middle aged guys.

This was written for a non-partisan BBS I have been posting at for a while, but I thought it was at least worth posting here also, obviously I have garnered some points from others.

As I watched and read the MSM and Democrats reactions to Sarah Palin I couldn’t help but laugh. There were all kind of comments and accusations ranging from Obama’s dismissive comment about Palin being an up and coming politican all the way to CNN’s Paul Begala asking if ‘John McCain had lost his mind?’

Well he might be crazy but if he is he is crazy like a fox. Whatever else happens Palin has absolutely electrified McCain’s base and completely taken Obama’s speech out of the news.

Every time the Democrats and the MSM talk about her inexperience it is scoring points for McCain, because real people can easily see she has more experience than the head of the Democratic ticket. When the Democrats and the MSM talk about her being from a small state (funny how they never talk about Delaware being a small state) and her being from a small town, they reinforce their image of elitism, thus once again helping John McCain.

When they talk about how Biden is going to destroy her in the VP debate, they forget about the Kennedy-Nixon debate in 1960. Those watching on TV thought Kennedy won the debate, while radio listeners thought Nixon ate his lunch. The difference was visual presence. Kennedy clearly had it over Nixon. When you compare that smile of Palin against Biden and his hairplugs it is easy to see who will have visual presence. Oh and unlike John Edwards who did everything he possibly could to beautify himself for the camera, Palin very intentionally dresses down by donning the schoolmarm/librarian look when appearing in public.

If you really want to understand the difference Sarah Palin made in this race look no further than the left wing and right wing blogs especially compared to their reaction to the Biden pick. With Biden the blogs reacted kind of ho hum, while with Palin both sides went crazy. The left went absolutely ballistic, much like the MSM, right now their hot topic of conversation is Palin’s son Trig is actually her grandson. Apparently there was some kind of massive coverup of the true mother’s identity that they could only get away with up in Alaska. While on the right people are talking about how for the first time they are excited about this campaign.

Oh about those Hillary voters, every single VP pick made in the last 50 years if not longer was about winning over some category of voters. Granted there will be many of them who simply cannot palate someone who is pro-life and to a lesser degree someone who believes in the right to bear arms. However, there are many independent and even some moderate and conservative democrat voters who will be inspired by real person/working mom enough to vote Republican to make this pick more than worthwhile.

Besides if you think about it many Hillary supporters feel that the MSM was very sexist in its treatment of Hillary vis-a-vis Obama and at least so far the MSM can arguably be seen as being sexist again. To illustrate none of them are arguing that Obama has no experience only that Palin has no experience. Since even a quick glance at their resumes shows Palin has more leadership experience, one can easily infer that the MSM believes a woman must have much more experience to equate to a man’s experience. Thus once more playing right into McCain’s hands.
