Detonate the pro-life congressmen phones: Stupak about to fall for the useless Executive Order (He and the other pro-lifers won’t get any cover from this)

From the Hill:

I alluded to this many times last night and either he is the dumbest congressmen on the face of the planet or this was a great big charade all along.  This guy is crazy to accept an executive order.  Executive orders have to be enforced by the executive branch, can be rescinded at any time and CANNOT OVERRIDE FEDERAL LAW.  IT IS USELESS IN OVERRIDING THE SENATE LANGUAGE ON ABORTION.  Catholic and pro-life groups have been screaming from the roof-tops to not go along with this executive order ploy and are firmly opposed to this. Nuke the phone lines of the following congressmen.

PRIORITY #1

Lincoln Davis

John Tanner

Bart Stupak

Kathy Dahlkamper

Nick Rahall

Jerry Costello

Dan Lipinski

Marcy Kaptur (YES)

Allan Mollohan

Marion Berry (Bill Clinton is desperately trying to peel him off)

Steve Driehaus

Joe Connelly

Rick Boucher (Almost forgot him!  He hasn’t announced but was a lean no last I checked.)

PRIORITY #2

Earl Pomeroy

Paul Kanjorski

Solomon Ortiz

Mike Michaud

Bill Foster (Doubtful, but still place a call)

PRIORITY #3

Brian Baird

If the Stupak coalition goes down and falls for this, they will be the most ridiculed lot ever in congressional history and be laughed at.  If they hold, they will be regarded as the most courageous people that have been in the halls of Congress in recent memory. Will they be Benedict Arnolds or Nathan Hales?

If an EO would do the trick, then

what would be the problem with writing it into the law?

It doesn’t take a genius to tell this is just smoke and mirrors.

The Hill Low Down on The Executive Order

Yes, its real, but its one of these “phantom” things. The Dema leaders, I wager, are playing both sides, keeping it ambiguous.

Once Stupak or the Pro-Choice Block understand it, I suspect one group will waver, but by then the leadership will push, the well the vote is aonly couple hours away and we cant bicker about this now. Just vote yes and we will deal with the detail later…. we promise.

Boucher is becoming a concern.

Its getting kind of late for lobbying, but if there is one talking point to be emphasized, it is that EOs are extremely and are unnacceptable to Catholics.

The words in the article suggest that there have been NO discussions with the White House on the EO

Stupak said Saturday that there were “at least six” of his original dozen that were going to oppose the health bill. He said that he was “going to think about” what would need to be included in an executive order to convince him that no federal dollars would go toward funding abortion. Further, Stupak said that he had not talked to the White House about such an executive order.

Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) confirmed Stupak’s whip count of at least six holdouts.

In an interview with The Hill, Kaptur said that an executive order “could be helpful, depending on what’s in it.”

But, not having talked with the White House about such an action, she said, “I don’t really know how real that is.”

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) told reporters Saturday that he was “hopeful” that an executive order, under discussion by leaders on abortion, will persuade a majority of “pro-life” Democrats to vote for the bill.

My rules of the road for primary season.
Rule #1: Vote for YOUR first choice in the primaries
Rule #2: Vote for the R in the general.
Rule #3: Don’t let anyone convince you to violate Rule #1 or Rule #2
Rule #4: When in a center-right argument, reaffirm Rules #1-#3–it will help us all to get along better.
Rule #5: If you are using the language of the left, you probably aren’t furthering conservativism
Rule #6: The priority is issues first, candidates second, and supporters third. Nobody is bigger than the issues. Conversely, if you spend your time focusing on supporters, you are wasting everyone’s time.

STOP THE MADNESS!

A reduction in the rate of spending increases is NOT a cut!
In-state tuition for illegals is NOT amnesty!
Requiring someone to pay their medical bills is NOT an individual mandate!
Reducing tax rates is NOT a tax increase!

Stupak

Stupak explicitly stated he was close to a deal with the White House. The only thing the WH can do is an EO. Its his own words, not my interpretation.

Im not pessimist, nor do I cling to flase hope.

I’m just looking for facts.

Kaptur just flipped

Disappointing no doubt, but there is no electoral pressure there.

As long as the GOP keeps its real close, those in tough races are less likely to throw their hat with the Dems.

Lets go Vols. Rocky Mountain Top forever.

Ortiz is Voting Yes

Two losses. Both were more long shots.

We need a group of hard core Stupak hold outs of about five or six and some comobination of a around three of the other undecideds.

Need Davis to give us momentum.
