RIP Obamacare?

The Huffington post is reporting that Pelosi is dropping the public option.  Pelosi has also said that if health care doesn’t pass by Christmas then the American people will have a New Year’s Day present according to Politico.  I’ve said it before.  If Obamacare doesn’t pass by Christmas, no bill will pass.  Very interesting developments in the last couple of hours.  Also, Olympia Snowe is rejecting the Medicare buy-in compromise.  I can’t see any way something passes now.  Thoughts?

When I saw that CNN poll come out in the last few hours (showing 61% opposed, only 36% in favor), I figure that the bill’s chances for passage suffered a blow.

The same poll, taken during the House debate just a few weeks ago, found 46% support and 49% opposition.

I’m still in the camp that says the Democrats really don’t care about the near-term political consequences. But it’ll only take one or two of them (depending on what our old buddies Snowe and Collins do) to spoil the fun.

And if somebody like Lincoln, Landrieu, Lieberman, or Nelson are still somewhere near the fence, I can’t imagine that poll result is going to embolden them much.
