North Dakota Gov. John Hoeven (R) leads Sen. Byron Dorgan (D) by double-digits in a hypothetical 2010 Senate race, according to a Zogby International poll of likely voters conducted Nov. 17 through 18.
Though both men are popular in the state, Hoeven tops Dorgan 55 percent to 36 percent, with 9 percent undecided. The margin of error is 4.5 percent.
Hoeven’s margin grows if North Dakota voters are informed that Dorgan supports the Democrat’s health care overhaul legislation — 57 percent to 32 percent for Dorgan.
Just 28 percent of North Dakota voters said they support the health care bill proposed by President Barack Obama. Sixty-two percent oppose it, 48 percent strongly.
Hoeven has yet to declare but I hope he runs so bad. This would be a huge coup for NRSC and continue to pressure Dems

Yeh, the Dakotas have been an anomoly forever.
jeffreywturner (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 10:39PM EST (link)If we can oust the 3 remaining liberal senators from the Dakotas, the way we ousted Daschle, then those should become reliably conservative seats for decades to come.
For each one though, we need someone like Hoeven initially, who is incredibly popular in order to oust them. Then, going forward, any credible conservative should be able to retain the seat.
Even if Hoeven decides not to run though, I hope he at least waits a few months to make that call, perhaps punking Dorgan into voting against the health care bill in the meantime, because a run by Hoeven is the only legitimate threat to Dorgan’s re-election chances at the moment.

neum432 (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 11:01PM EST (link)I live in SW North Dakota, The names, Conrad, Dorgan and Pomeroy will always hold their congressional seats until a name like Governor Hoeven or former Governor Schafer decided to run. ND GOP keeps putting up guys with no chance (like Duane Sand) to go up against the three Dem’s.
