Perriello — who seems to be far less afraid of being unseated than other Dems in red districts — told Mika Brzezinski on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that he overheard racist remarks during a series of highly contentious town halls over the summer — and sometimes those comments went uncontested.
“What do you think of Nancy Pelosi’s recent comments about the concern that this could bring us back to another time where things were very violent and that this could go in a bad direction, the discourse?” Brzezinski asked.
Replied Perriello: “I conducted over a hundred hours of town hall meetings in my district in central and Southern Virginia, and the vast majority of them were civil; people disagreed passionately on ideological grounds. And there were the rare cases where very racist remarks were made. Sometimes they were called out by neighbors in the audience; sometimes they weren’t. Clearly, race remains a factor in America, but there’s also a lot of disagreement here that is genuine and not based on race, so I think we have to have both conversations.”

Scope (Diary) Wednesday, September 23rd at 2:28PM EST (link)He was very recently arrested for “unauthorized guns in his vehicle.” It most likely was the Perriello people who were instrumental in that happening, however, he also has some other serious issue, such as running on the “fair tax” thingy. Recently, another Republican, Ken Boyd announced his intention to challenge Perriello. Boyd has a lengthy resume in public service, and, is currently the Chair of the Albemarle Board of Supervisors. I don’t have any other knowledge of what he stands for, as his website has not been brought on line yet. I’m watching for it, and will comment on whatever I find when it is available. I understand that there will also be a few other Republicans coming forward to run.
After the Townhall’s that Perriello had, where he adamantly tried to sell Obamacre, that hasn’t even been written yet, I would say he was a disaster, judging by the attendees, other than the SEIU people he had bussed in. He had to call for reinforcements as he was taking a beating by his constituients. I would put him in the very vulnerable category for 2010. Actually, even in the very liberal enclave of Charlottesville, even Mickey Mouse can blow him over.
