North Dakota Gov. John Hoeven says he won`t be deciding soon whether to run against Sen. Byron Dorgan next year.
The Republican governor has considered making an announcement before Labor Day, Sept. 7.
The chairman of the North Dakota Republican Party has pushed for a decision in early September. Gary Emineth says an early start is needed to raise the money that`s necessary to run a good campaign against the Democratic incumbent.
Hoeven says he`s been discussing the race with his wife, first lady Mikey Hoeven, and his family. He says the decision cannot be rushed and he has no timeline for making one.
Dorgan is running for his fourth Senate term.
I hope he runs! He is the best candidate their and no way should someone like Dorgan get free ride when ND votes solidly for republican presidents

We really, really need him to get in
RandomGuy (Diary) Wednesday, August 19th at 2:33AM EST (link)Or Dorgan will get a free ride in a state that hasn’t gone D for President since LBJ.
If he runs, the race is instantly a tossup, I’d say it slightly favors Hoeven if the year is even remotely good for us, and I think it would be.
Draft Mitch Daniels for President ’12
Me too

I hope one of the other statewide office holders challenges Pomeroy too
I never
Daniel Horowitz (Diary) Wednesday, August 19th at 11:17AM EST (link)understood how the GOP gives the rats a free pass in so many states that we win by huge margins in presidential elections. There is one thing with a guy like Ben Nelson in Nebraska who often votes with R’s, but these other clowns? Conrad, Dorgan, Jhonston, the two clowns in Arkansas. We need to find viable challengers. Even if 2010 is a wave year, we can only win senate elections if we actually challenege them. This is something important to keep in mind. Even if the generic vote is over 51% R, it means nothing especially for the Senate races which often boil down to individual races unlike the House elections.
Yes and its not just Senators
proudgop (Diary) Wednesday, August 19th at 11:29AM EST (link)The Republicans should not give free rides to people like:
Mattheson UT
Pomeroy ND
Hearsh SD
Patterson MN
Ike MO
Edwards TX
Taylor MS
Boyd FL
others
I am still concerned about Lincoln in AR and the very fractured primary and no big names in it. I so wish Huckabee would help his party and country and run here
Huckabee
Daniel Horowitz (Diary) Wednesday, August 19th at 11:57AM EST (link)I agree with you there. I am not so hot on Huckabee running from President due to his economic populism and somewhat pro illegal alien positions. But he would be great to have in a Senate especially in a seat that has been held by the rats for no reason. The Republicans need to stop handing out free Senate seats to rats in red states.
In regard to the house districts you mentioned it is simply insane. Charlie Cook’s PVI rates 70 districts currently held by rates as at least R+1 with 35 of them being at least R+5. And its not as if most of these clowns vote conservative enough to be considered safe.
We've had serious challenges
RandomGuy (Diary) Wednesday, August 19th at 1:44PM EST (link)to Mattheson, Pomeroy, Herseth, and Edwards in recent elections. They’ve just survived anyway.
I still think we can get Edwards, maybe Pomeroy, but I don’t think we’re ever beating Herseth or Mattheson. They know their districts too well and are too entrenched.
I was sort of hoping Herseth would run for Governor. If she won…I actually don’t think she’d be that bad. If she lost, we’d still have a Republican Governor. Either way we’d get her House seat back.
Draft Mitch Daniels for President ’12
If 2010 is 1994
proudgop (Diary) Wednesday, August 19th at 1:54PM EST (link)they are going down
I am glad GOP has recruited top recruits to Ike, DeFazio, Boucher but the above names need too challenges
People need to have reason to vote against them with a better candidate
Yup
proudgop (Diary) Wednesday, August 19th at 12:32PM EST (link)Republicans give Dems free rides while any Republicans in Dem tilted districts always get tough re-election
Space OH
Holden PA
Boucher VA
Donnelly IN
Ellsworth IN
Hill IN
all Dems in WV and AR ( they have shown they like Republicans for federal level)
in many cases we let them get entrenched and thats biggest shame
