Melania Trump Shows More Character than Donald in Tweet About Charlottesville

While her husband has had a series of misses in his comments regarding the protests and violence in Charlottesville, Virginia on Saturday, First Lady Melania Trump’s twitter account sent a message many Americans can agree with.

Freedom of speech and the right to assemble and protest are fundamental American tenants. Most Americans, regardless of political affiliation, hold to that belief. And the times when it matters most is when it’s used to espouse hateful ideologies.

The First Lady juxtaposed that right against the emerging violence coming from conflicts between the white supremacist Unite the Right rally attendees and its protesters, which so far has led to three deaths.

Nothing breaks down and threatens the First Amendment more than violence being introduced. The First Lady’s tweet perfectly encapsulates the American spirit that holds free speech tantamount and also the discouragement of seeing two opposing sides resort to violence, which changes exactly zero hearts and minds.

If only she and those who help craft her tweets could get ahold of her husband’s account.
